Advantages: Great value, nice product.
Disadvantages: None for me!
Any regular readers of my reviews will be aware by now that I work as an Avon Representative when my health issues allow. Because I am a Rep, it means that I have regular access to many different Avon products and of course many of those brilliant promotions and great deals that can regularly be found across the pages of the latest Avon brochure!
There are several brands within Avon that I use regularly, some are of course better than others but one brand that I had never before tried was the 'Avon Foot works' range of toiletries.
I have tried a few items from this range recently, and one such product is the 'Deep Moisturising Cream'. I was inclined to try this product out, after I had read a few reviews on Dooyoo, which seemed to favour the cream quite highly.
** ABOUT FOOTWORKS PRODUCTS **
The Foot works brand has been around in Avon brochures for years - as long as I can remember actually. As the years have gone on, the branding seems to have improved, and has been given a much 'sharper' looking image over the past year or two.
Also, the range of products has improved in terms of the products available to buy within the range. What was once a half-a-page worth of catalogue options is now generously displayed over a double- paged spread.
The range itself covers everything from those little silicone 'pads' that can be inserted into your high heels to protect your feet on a night out after too much dancing, to moisture creams and sprays, solutions and lotions.
The range is very affordable too, much more so than I remember it being before. With many of the items falling under the £5 mark, it means that one can treat oneself on a regular basis. The addition of regular offers on individual items within the range, and on the range itself means that we can pick and choose several items for a very affordable sum. An example of one such offer is when a recent brochure offered every item in the Foot works range at half price, meaning that we as the consumer could take this opportunity to create a bit of a 'stock pile' of items from the range.
** THE PACKAGING **
All of the products in the range have the same colours on their packaging. These are basically a sort of navy blue 'band' across the top and front of the product, which is displayed on a white background. Under the blue band there is a sort of pink stripe and each product has a little image of a pink foot, which is displayed in a little pink circle. The name of the product can be seen quite clearly on the front of each product.
All in all I think the packaging is quite 'crisp' and is rather classy looking. The little tube of deep moisturising cream is 75 ml in size.
There are a few instructions on the reverse of the tube which advise me how to best use the cream, i.e. after bath, shower or foot soak. There is also a little statement which says "Go Deep for soft, moisturised feet." Reading this statement confirmed to me what I thought the cream was all about really --- A good, deep moisturising lotion for my tired feet!
** FIRST IMPRESSIONS **
Upon removing the screw-top lid, I wasn't at all surprised to see that the cream is a crisp white colour, which I feel is in keeping with the product's image. I am quite happy to use a white-coloured cream, as I feel it causes a bit less mess at times, and I personally am a bit of a messy devil!
Before using the cream on my feet, I wanted to know what to expect, hence why I had taken off the lid and had a good whiff of the cream. I did find that the cream was quite heavily scented, even though the fragrance wasn't particularly unpleasant.
Squeezing a little of the cream out for inspection, I could see that it looked to be quite shiny and fairly thick, but not overly so. The texture is nowhere near as thick as a body butter or similar product, but neither is it so thin that it is running about all over your hand when you have squeezed a little from the tube.
** APPLICATION **
The first couple of times I tried this product, I would apply it to my feet after I got out of a warm bath. I felt this would be best, given the instructions on the back of the tube. I found that because my feet were warm and the skin was quite soft because of the bathwater, that it made the whole experience a little more enjoyable.
In saying that, I have used it several times without washing my feet first, or following a bath or shower and have found that the results are pretty much the same, so I personally think that it comes down to personal choice.
The first thing that I noticed was how SOFT it made my skin feel. I did think that this feeling was evident pretty much as soon as I started applying the cream. Not only that, but I found that the cream was very easy to apply due to it being absorbed well - there was no greasy feeling to my skin at all, and I did think that it was being absorbed quite quickly in comparison to other foot creams I have used recently.
The smell of the cream is the next thing that struck me. Whilst the scent is really quite strong, I didn't find that it was over-bearing or too much, unlike other foot creams which are so heavily scented with peppermint or something similar that you are literally inhaling menthol whilst you apply the cream... Useful perhaps if you have a cold or a blocked up nose, but not my preference if I'm being honest!
The Avon cream instead has a much more subtle scent to it. Yes, the scent is definitely peppermint or menthol- based I would say, but it is not so heavily scented that one's eyes are streaming as we massage our feet. The scent on the whole is really quite pleasant, and I think it reminds me a little of chewing gum or something.
When rubbing the cream in, I tend to start on the top of my foot first - the area near my toes - and rub in small circular motions to apply the cream thoroughly. I then tend to rub the cream down towards my toes and along each toe.
Finally, I concentrate on the sole of my foot and my heel. These areas are the driest of my whole foot - although I have to confess and say they are in no way cracked, nor do I have a lot of hard skin.
These areas get tired out quite easily due to shoes and sandals rubbing against them, and although I could never be described as the biggest walker in the world, I do find that rubbing a little of the cream into the soles of my feet brings me a little relief. It is soothing, and when something is soothing I find that it is also relaxing - another plus point for me, then!
** MY OPINION **
Once I have finished applying the cream I do find that the skin on my foot is deliciously soft. The top of my foot is MUCH softer than I remember it being after using my most recent foot cream (from Boots) and actually I think my feet just look a bit better after using this. They have a bit more 'colour' to them or something... perhaps they just appreciate a bit of attention!?
I do also find that my heels and soles are softer and look better too. For all my heels weren't cracked before I started out using this cream, I do feel from my personal experience that if this was a problem that you suffered from, this would moisturise the area sufficiently and would help to remedy the problem.
In terms of my feet, my heels are much softer than they were before and look better too! I would recommend the cream quite highly for this reason, and I for one am quite converted - I am now on my second tube of this stuff!
I do feel that the claims made by Avon about this product are quite justified and it is one product that I will definitely be recommending to my customers - especially when it is on special offer! I can only award the cream top marks as I am thoroughly satisfied with the product.
One thing that I would mention though, is that once you have used the cream there is a little sort of 'residue' that remains on your skin for a while. I have found that said residue will actually leave a sort of 'chalky' looking mark on your carpets or sofa or whatever if you are not careful!
This problem was discovered rather unfortunately by my other half. He got up one morning to see several white 'powdery' looking footprints all over our lounge carpet (which is a very dark colour). Needless to say I have now been forced into wearing little slipper sock things once I have finished applying the cream to my feet. Ooopsie! :-o
** WHERE TO BUY **
You can order the cream from your local Avon representative, and the normal price is £3.50 which in itself is I think, reasonable value, considering my most recent alternative foot cream cost around the same price from Boots.
Please bear in mind what I said at the start of this review about the Foot works range having regular offers though... It may well be the case that you manage to order this cream for a cheaper price!
If you do not have an Avon representative, you can order the foot cream online at www.avonshop.co.uk, where it is currently on offer at £1.75.
Summary: A very good value, efficient foot cream...
