Advantages: SEE REVIEW..
Disadvantages: SEE REVIEW..
Any regular readers of my reviews will be aware by now that I work as an Avon representative when my poor health allows. This means that I have great access to a lot of the fantastic deals that are available in the Avon brochure.
One such deal that I took advantage of recently was the 'Glycerine Hand and Nail cream' which usually costs £3.50 for a 125ml tube. The offer I got however was to choose any three products for the sum of £5, and as I already knew there were another two products I wanted to purchase that were covered in the same deal, the savings I made on this offer were in the region of around £4, which seemed like a fairly good buy to me!
** THE PRODUCT & PACKAGING **
Anyway, the Glycerine Hand and nail cream is available to buy all year round, and as an Avon representative, I know that it is a very popular product with customers old and new. I personally sell quite a lot of this cream and so was keen to try it out myself.
The packaging is changed slightly at this time of year, as Avon market this range of products as 'Christmas Stocking Fillers' so the design of the packaging has a very Christmassy theme to it. A deep burgundy coloured tube has some gold designs on the outside, and a few little gold stars adorn the whole of the tube. All in all it is a very rich-looking product, or so the packaging (and the marketing from Avon) would have you believe!
There are a few other products in the same range, such as a lip balm for example, and all of these have identical Christmas-themed packaging too.
** APPLICATION **
I found that this Avon hand cream was really very thick in consistency, although this is my personal preference as my hands are in terrible condition, and I feel I need to use quite a heavy moisturising product on them to achieve any sort of reasonable results.
I found that the cream took quite a while to rub into my skin, although this is the case with most similar products that I use on a regular basis, to be fair. I did find that the cream was eventually (!) absorbed though, and when it had been absorbed I didn't find that it left my hands with a greasy 'slick' like feeling.
What struck me about this cream as I was applying it most of all though, was the smell. I found it to be extremely over-powering, and would much rather this scent was toned down. I also found that the smell really lingered on my hands and skin after I had finished applying the cream, which I wasn't particularly keen on. Other hand creams that I use regularly don't have this problem, and I personally would rather not have a lingering scent after application has been finished.
** WOULD I RECOMMEND? **
Back to the plus points of the product, and I really have to comment on what a huge difference the Avon hand cream has made to my sorry-looking hands!
Firstly, the 'cracked' appearance to my skin - particularly around my knuckle area - has been VASTLY improved by the use of this cream. I know that it must be this product, as I have not been using anything different in terms of other products on my hands. Furthermore, the improvement to my skin was really quite evident after I had used the cream only once or twice, and this led me to want to apply the cream at least once a day, which has probably improved the overall condition of my hands, although to be fair I would have probably seen an improvement to my hands if I used a hand cream every day regardless of what the product was.
Anyway, the Avon Glycerine hand cream has most definitely made an improvement to the overall appearance of my hands, but I have also found that it has helped my eczema too, albeit only slightly. The main point to note here though, is that a lot of other hand creams that I have attempted to use in the past have been discarded after only a couple of uses, such is the irritation that they cause to the sensitive skin (and eczema) on my hands. The Avon cream really came up trumps on this score for me!
Overall, I would recommend the product, and I personally will buy it again for the reasons I have outlined. The only thing that really lets this down is the horrible smell, which I find is really over-powering and heavily scented. Other than that though, I am impressed with the overall results I have achieved and the condition of my hands has been improved so much that I can overlook the pong of the cream, for now at least.
I will deduct a Dooyoo star because of the off- putting scent, but other than that I cannot fault this product and am impressed with the results for the most part... The fact that I got this cream for a reduced price is of course a plus point, but to be honest I am so impressed with the results that I wouldn't complain if I had to buy it at full price.
To buy the hand cream, you can get it directly from your local Avon representative, or you can order online at www.avonshop.co.uk, where the normal price is £3.50 for the 125ml tube of cream.
Summary: A good hand cream from Avon Cosmetics.
