Advantages: Gets rid of my dry/flaky skin, non-drying

Disadvantages: The tiny sugar grains can make it feel that you need to use more than you actually do

I first came across this body scrub as part of an Avon shea butter gift set. I wasn't really into body scrubs at the time and didn't use it much until this year, when I noticed that the skin on my arm, legs and shoulders was prone to being dry and flaky, especially after I had dried myself off with a towel after having a bath or shower. Since then, I have been using it two times per week.

***The Scrub***
As the name suggests, this body scrub is made predominantly from brown sugar, and this is pretty similar to granulated brown sugar that you can buy in supermarkets. There is quite a strong smell of shea butter too (or what I imagine must be the shea butter, seeing as I've never actually smelt it before!) but it isn't overwhelmingly strong. When you squeeze some of the scrub out of the bottle, you get a concoction that is quite thick and gloopy as it's a mixture of the butter and sugar. This is actually a lot more appealing than my description makes it sound.

The bottle is clear plastic, so you can see exactly how much is left. It's a flip top lid, but you need to tip the bottle upside down to get the scrub out. Be careful when squeezing as you only need a gentle squeezing motion. I learnt the hard way that being too enthusiastic on that front means that half the bottle comes out in one go!

***Using The Scrub***
Although the scrub itself is quite gloopy, it doesn't seem to go that far. I usually use it on my arms and legs mostly and often find that I need to go back and add more scrub to get a good enough lather going. As the exfoliating element is basically just grains of sugar, it tends to feel quite ineffective and that always makes me want to apply more scrub too. If you use this in the bath, remember to give the bath a thorough clean out after using this scrub as I've found that it tends to cling to the bottom of the bath and looks rather like someone has thrown handfuls of sand into the bath.

***The Results***
My observations in the previous paragraph must be out of sync with the effectiveness of the scrub as my skin has been flake free since I started using it and I haven't experienced any of the dry skin flaking off after a bath or shower so this must mean that it's doing a much better job than it feels when I'm using the scrub. I'm not experienced any dryness or tightness since using this, which I have often found with body scrubs (this is one of the reasons why I never used to use them much).

***The Price***
I bought my bottle from the Avon website for around £4 (plus delivery) a few months ago. I can't find it on the Avon website to confirm that though so the price may well be slightly different now.

Summary: I recommend this body scrub!
