Advantages: None!
Disadvantages: Absolutely useless - doesn't do what it says at all!!!
After returning from my last holiday I was eager to try and maintain my golden brown tan for as long as possible, especially with the poor English weather it didn’t seem likely that I’d be topping it up anytime soon. I’ve always been a fan of self tan products as I believe them to be much safer than using sun beds and when I saw that Avon had a new product out and that it was also on offer I decided to take the plunge and try it out.
Most of you will have heard of Avon before but for those of you that haven’t it was set up back in 1886 and is basically a catalogue and internet ordering company. Sadly Avon isn’t available to buy in any shops but they promise that this does not detract from the quality of products and simply keeps the price of products lower. They’ve grown enormously over the last 10 years or so and now sell a range of make up, skin care and hair care products. They’ve recently branched out to include certain clothing and underwear items also.
The Packaging
The Skin So Soft Satin Glow Airbrush Spray product comes in a light peachy coloured plastic bottle with a clear plastic lid. The bottle stands easily on any shelf and is about 6 inches in height. The lid pops off quite easily so do be careful if you’re ever carrying it around in a bag. To dispense the product you simply need to press down on the dispenser lid which lets the spray out. The packaging itself does look slightly dated in my opinion and slightly cheap also.
The Product
The actual spray itself is clear and doesn’t really have much of a smell to it, just a hint of that common sun kissed, slightly acidic smell you tend to get with self tan sprays. The spray itself is a liquid and so you can imagine the consistency of it quite easily. It comes in both fair and medium skin tones but there’s no differentiation of the actual product in appearance or smell.
When I first applied the product I was quite shocked by how much it took to cover my body, the spray dispenses easily but almost seems to evaporate in the air before it even reaches your skin. It’s quite greasy feeling initially on your hands as it seems to build up there while you’re applying it but it soaks in incredibly easy on your skin. I actually found myself worrying as I was applying the spray that I wasn’t putting enough on so I found myself re-applying as I went along!
The Result
In order to give the product a fair trial I applied it on three consecutive evenings and here are the results I found each morning:
Morning 1 – I bounced out of bed on the first morning eager to see the result and there’s one word to describe my reaction, disappointed. If I’m honest you really couldn’t tell that I’d applied a self tan product as my skin hadn’t deepened its glow in the slightest. The evening before my skin had been really soft and quite nicely scented but this had disappeared by the morning.
Morning 2 – The next night I applied a little bit extra of the product in the hope that it would improve with quantity, however the next morning I woke up to be disappointed again. This was two weeks after my holiday so I the tan had started to fade and although I did have a slight tan I did feel that by applying the medium skin tones spray it would have at least some effect.
Morning 3 – I found the exact same result the next day, my legs did appear to be ever so slightly more tanned as these had obviously faded the most since my holiday due to wearing trousers everyday for work but there was no change to my arms or body.
Conclusion
I really wouldn’t recommend this product in the slightest, over the three applications I found I used practically half a bottle of the product as I was so eager to see a result I rather over-applied the spray. It’s currently on sale on the Avon website and you can pick up two bottles for £5, I can’t help but wonder if they’ve realised it’s absolutely useless and are now trying to get rid of their stock. It does say that it takes a few days for the tan to develop but after three days I’d be expecting some results. This product doesn’t get a single star from me in reality (although DooYoo have made me give it at least one!), yes it’s reasonably priced and quite nice smelling but that’s where the good points stop I’m afraid and they’re not what I bought the product for either! I definitely won’t be buying it again and I don’t recommend you do either!
Thanks for reading.
