Advantages: Makes skin so soft

Disadvantages: Can make floor slippery

Being a mozzies magnet I was intrigued to read, a couple of years ago, claims that the Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh range was efficient at repelling the little blighters or should I say biters. Mmm I said to meself I must try it!

Normally when I go abroad on my jollies, word gets out to the mozzie population and they arrive at the airport just in time for me to alight from the plane. I am sure they line up just to take a good couple of bites each. They know are in for a good meal.
"Mm look there's Susan, where have you flew in from to eat her alive? I heard about her from my second cousin in Rhodes."
"Oh my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandma met her in Crete last year and has passed the legend on of her tasty blood so I thought I'd stock up on some."
"Good Idea, lets get biting."

The last time I cut myself (not on purpose - totally accidental - tin openers are dangerous!), I had a taste of my own blood but I couldn't see the attraction for it that mosquitoes have.

The first year I used Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh range, I bought practically the entire range as they had a special offer on at the time. They always have special offers on, but that was my justification for buying so much.

It dawned on me while I was waiting for my bumper parcel of goodies that if mosquitoes were repelled by it, then it might not smell so good to me either.

Obviously mozzies must have a different sense of smell to us - well they do have different shaped noses anyway - because when I smelled the Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh I thought it has a lovely fresh and summery scent. I don't wear perfume on holiday as that attracts unwelcome visitors, mozzies and strange men, but the Avon Skin So Soft range is so pleasant that I don't need any other smells on.

Seemingly even the British Royal Marine Commandos have been know to use Avon Skin So Soft to repel mosquitoes. I bet they smell fab and have lovely soft skin.

There has been, to my knowledge, no scientific research as to why the Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh range stops mozzies in their quest for my and other people's blood but it is thought that as it leaves a thin oily layer on the skin it makes it more difficult for the buggers to grab a hold and bite. I like to think of them sliding off my skin and landing in a heap somewhere where I can swat them with my latest copy of Take A Break (compulsory holiday reading - its full of potato faced people drinking Special Brew to commemorate the death of their misunderstood paedophile sons and suchlike heart-warming stories to make you feel superior).

I had bought shower gel, body lotion and the dry oil spray but I have found just using the dry oil spray is just as effective as using the whole range.

The Soft and Fresh dry oil spray comes in a handy sized plastic green 150ml container with pump action spray. It is usually priced about a fiver but as I said before there are usually special offers on it, two for ones and suchlike.

As I have a slight allergic reaction to some mosquito bites (massive blisters and bad temperedness at getting bitten) I was a bit wary using the Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh range as it is only unofficially an insect repellent but I have found that when I use it I am less likely to be bitten. I have started taking, just as a precaution, antihistamines through out my jollies to lessen the effect of any bites, which may occur. On the odd occasion when I have been lax in my spraying and I have had a bite they haven't blistered since taking the antihistamines.

I have a routine on holiday that as soon as I get out of the shower I am completely sprayed from head to toe in the stuff. I find one bottle lasts me my usual two weeks away, although I now have to take two as my daughter has discovered it. With it being a dry oil formula it is non greasy and absorbs quickly into the skin. I don't even bother with aftersun now as I mind its moisturising properties are so good. I try not to overdo the sun anyway as I have fair skin and freckles and burn within five minutes of exposure and I don't want to be damaged and wrinkly when I get older.

I find Avon Skin So Soft, Soft and Fresh dry oil so convenient to use, as it doesn't need rubbed in and just sinks into my skin. With it having a pump action spray I find when it is full it is easier to spray but when it gets more than half way through the pump action doesn't work as well as it should. I also have to have help applying it to my back as sometimes the spray doesn't come out in the direction I expect and I end up decorating the walls, the bed, the friendly (well not so friendly anymore) cat that visits and sometimes it ends up in my lager which is just not on. Soft and Fresh lager is just not nice - I still drink it though, don't like waste. I have had a few mishaps on the floor much to the amusement of the family when a bit of the spray inadvertently lands there. The last display resulted in them awarding me 8/10 for content and 3/10 for artistic merit, and the floor awarding me a nice set of bruises to display at the pool the next day.

All in all I find Skin So Soft, Soft and Gentle a must have for my holidays. Its lightweight, convenient to use, moisturises my skin beautifully, smells like summer, and stops mozzies using me as a convenient snack. Sorted.

Summary: Value for money

It's got calendula oil in it, that's why it is such a good insect repellent.
