Advantages: Smells divine and is very relaxing.
Disadvantages: None
One of my favourite bath time treats in the world has to be Bathos by Lush.
Part of their bubble bath slice collection, this is a violet leaf, jasmine and ylang-ylang containing bar, which explodes as you pop some into the bath dispersing like a lilac Alka Seltzer into a cascade of lovely frothy bubbles!
If you pop into Lush or go online you will be able to see the lovely bath treat which retails for about £2.35. It is part of the range which also includes two of my other favourites, Blue Skies and Green Day. This represents good value for money as you don't need to use it all by any means. I would expect to use this at least 4 times as you can just break off a small piece for each bath.
The slices are a beautiful shade of violet and have a B on the top in green glitter so you can easily recognise them. The essential oil obtained from violets is extremely relaxing and the other two oils, jasmine and ylang ylang are sensual so perhaps a good bedtime choice here. I certainly have found it to be a calming bath, and the smell is utterly divine. Lush also add rose absolute, and clove oil, as well as bergamot oil, to the mix but these are not in my opinion discernable at all due to the overpowering violet aroma.
There is a little story behind the name Bathos as it is devised from the name Pathos which means sorrow or tragedy, but there is nothing tragic or sorrowful about this bath, it is intended to be a haven where you can lock yourself away, relax forget your worries and move on from them. So if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed with a bad day this may be the perfect pre bedtime relaxation.
One of the other main advantages of this is the smell. I actually store mine in an open basket in the ensuite, and the fragrance lingers all day and night and scents not only the bathroom, but the bedroom as well. In my opinion you never need to have air fresheners if you use this product as it is perfect for masking smells of any kind.
Using the product is so simple I just crumble a piece under running water and before long I am soaking in a mass of violet scented bubbles. Yes there are other oils in there, but violet is the overwhelming scent you can identify. It is long lasting too, and a nightime bath will still leave your skin smelling of violets in the morning. Even lingers on my linen pyjamas and bed linen. If you have ever eaten those parma violet sweets, or violet cream chocolates, you will recognise the smell from these, but somehow with the addition of the other oils this is much more feminine and calming than a packet of sweets would suggest it to be. I have found it really good for aching muscles and tense shoulders which I sometimes suffer from due to a medical condition I have. The slice crumbles very well in the water, but you may need to use your fingers to gently tease apart the small bits which soon disperse into little lavender grains of sand.
Lush never test their products on animals, and this one is actually vegan so my daughter would love it.
I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing bath. I think the violet scent which was a favourite in the Victorian era reminds me of what it must have been like to live in those times with no telephones or lights no computers or cars! Well at least we can shut the bathroom door for an hour and imagine!
Summary: A lovely scented bath treat.
