Advantages: Smells divine, cleansing, lots of bubbles
Disadvantages: Not as moisturising as other bubble bars from Lush
After receiving a call last week to say the work on installing my wet room has had to be put back for three weeks I wasn't actually as disappointed as I should have been. The reason being that as soon as I ended the call I logged onto Lush and bought several bath products with which to treat myself as a final goodbye to my beloved bath, which is being removed and replaced with a modern shower and not so modern shower seat.
One item I bought was the Bathos bubble bar, which I'm sure I've used in the past but can't quite recall the experience and it sounded wonderfully floral on the Lush site. When I had a bath last night I decided to use the whole bar rather than breaking it in half as I often do with bubble bars from Lush due to the expense of them.
The overriding aroma of a Bathos bubble bar is violet, I think it smells more of the Parma Violet sweets you can buy rather than a true floral violet aroma but it's very pleasant indeed in my opinion and the other flowery scents in the bar really compliment this beautifully. This bubble bar crumbles easily under the running water and begins producing bubbles straight away - a good tip here is to crumble some under the cold tap first as the increased pressure (compared to the hot tap) will give you an excellent start in the bubbles stakes.
As the steam rises in the bathroom you'll realise this is actually a much more delicately scented bubble bar than it first appears. Although the strongly scented Jasmine Absolute has been used in the bar there is actually very little evidence of this in the aroma, which is a shame in my opinion as jasmine is one of my favourite smells so I did find it a little disappointing that I could barely smell it beneath the cocktail of other scents used in Bathos.
Other oils used are Rose Absolute, Ylang Ylang Oil, Bergamot Oil and Clove Bud Oil. I can detect rose in there somewhere as well as the sweetness of the Ylang Ylang, although everything else in there is so thoroughly blended that I cannot pick out very many individual scents. Ordinarily this would drive me bonkers, but Bathos is so expertly done that it has a bouquet of aromas which all mingle in beautifully with one another and make for a sweet yet wonderfully floral scent.
Bathing is Bathos is a relaxing experience. I never feel particularly stressed but I honestly felt myself unwinding as I lay in the bath with my book, Lush claim on their website that it's the Violet Leaf Essential Oil that produces this relaxing feeling and who am I to argue. All I can say is that Bathos smells strongly of violets and if a simple bath can give me such a lift then give me all the violets you can find!
I don't feel that this has any skin softening properties worth mentioning. As will all Lush bubble bars my bath water takes on a silky quality which usually indicates that it is going to be a moisturising product, although this one isn't as moisturising as others from the Lush bubble bar range. I find it cleanses well, as usual I scooped up some of the copious amounts of bubbles and used them on my sponge to clean my skin. I was left feeling squeaky clean after my bath and although it was not overly moisturising, my skin didn't feel dry in the slightest afterwards and all I needed to use was a very light unscented body lotion when I had dried myself.
The aroma of the violets lingered beautifully around my bungalow and on my skin for some hours after my bath, despite being a rather sweet scent I was pleased to find that it wasn't as sickly as I had initially thought it would be. The overall sweetness develops into a beautiful floral perfume after a while which is all the better in my opinion.
I would certainly buy Bathos again, it costs £2.41 for one bubble bar which is expensive I know but well worth it for such a relaxing and enjoyable treat.
Summary: The fun of having a bath in Bathos!
