Advantages: Smells great and really relaxes you, Moisturises skin and softens water
Disadvantages: I haven't come across any
Last week I joined an aerobics class, I haven't attended an exercise class, or indeed taken part in any exercise period for many years so I was rather dreading it. In order to give myself something to look forward to after the class and to help me soothe my aching body I decided that I'd pop into Lush to see if I could find something extravagant to put in my bath. I have tried a couple of the Lush Bubble Bars but generally tend to go for the Bath Ballistics - however, for a change, I decided that it would be a lovely treat to come home, strip off, light a couple of candles, dim the lights and bury myself beneath a deep hot bath full of bubbles so I opted for a bubble bar. Lush stock a large range of Bubble Bars and they all do more than just create a simple bubble bath and therefore they do cost more than a standard bottle of bubble bath, (around £1.50 - £2.00 per Bubble Bar), Each bars is oblong shaped and is sold as a pre cut slice which measures approximately 3 inches long by 2 inches wide and approximately 2 inches deep. Whilst they may sound a little extravagant you can break the bubble bar into pieces and make it last for 3-4 baths. The Bathos Bubble Bar costs £1.65 for a 100g slice. The Bubble Bar display in my local shop is very colourful and attractive as each variety of Bubble Bar looks totally different to its' neighbour, both in colour and decoration. Each variety of Bubble Bar is accommodated loosely in a basket of its' own which has a little blackboard style notice, attached to the basket, that advises the consumer of the essential oils and other ingredients contained within the Bubble Bar along with details of the properties contained within the Bubble Bar and the atmosphere that you can expect it to create for you. I'm a bit of a purple fanatic so it didn't take me long to make my selection from the vast array of wonderfully coloured and scented bubble bars that were beckoning
me to purchase them. I chose the Bubble Bar named Bathos but I have to confess that I didn't purchase it for its' properties or effects, I chose it purely because of its' colour and scent. The Bathos Bubble Bar is a beautiful deep shade of purple and has a glittery silver 'B' embossed into the centre of the bar. It contains some of the most sensual, relaxing essential oils, including violet leaf which is apparently reputed to help people remember why they got together in the first place, it is therefore ideal to pop into a shared bath to help stir up the passion. After my aerobics session, the last thing I wanted was a rampant sex session, so I decided to keep the door firmly closed in order not to attract my husband! Along with the viola leaf oil the Bathos bar also contains the Ylang Ylang, Bergamot and Clove Bud oils. All Lush Bubble Bars contain bicarbonate of soda, which helps to soften the water, I live in a hard water area and the softening properties contained within this Bubble Bar were superb, it really made the bath water feel soft. To use a bubble bar you simply crumble as much or as little of the bar into a running bath. As the bar dissolves the bubbles appear and before you know if you have got a wonderfully scented, bath full to the brim with bubbles. Obviously the amount of bubbles you end up with depends on how much of the bar you put in, however, even if you split the Bubble Bar into four pieces each piece will provide you with more than enough bubbles and scent to satisfy your needs. As the Bathos bar is purple, when it disperses it colours the water, the result of which leaves you with pretty pale lilac coloured water topped with bubbles and the wonderful sweet scent of violets. Having decided that I was going to be extravagant I crumbled the entire Bubble Bar into the bath, (this gave a deeper shade of purple water and masses of bubbles), I then turned off the light, lit a co
uple of candles and sank down deep beneath the bubbles so that only my head was exposed. As soon as I had got myself comfortable I instantly began to feel deeply relaxed and calm - so much so that I could have quite easily fallen asleep. I laid in the bath for around half an hour just basically relaxing and have to say that by the time I got out I felt totally chilled out and ready for anything - perhaps I should have left the bathroom door open . The bubble bar left my skin feeling soft, moisturised and fragranced with the delicate sweet scent of violets. I did actually use my normal shower gel to wash with but apparently the Bubble Bars contain cleansing agents and therefore if you're feeling lazy you do not need to wash with soap/shower gel as well. I'm off to aerobics again this evening and can't wait to get home for another relaxing Bathos bubble bath. Despite colouring the water the bubble bath does not stain either the bath or sponge/flannel. All Lush products are suitable for use by vegetarians and this product is also suitable for use by vegans. Lush do not test their products on animals nor do they employ others who use animal testing. Lush only make their products for themselves and therefore you won't find this in Boots, however, you can visit the Lush website at www.lush.com and place online order if you wish. Highly recommended if you are feeling stressed, achy or just want to wind down and relax. Thank you for reading. Julie
