Advantages: Soft, lathers up well, Smells divine Body shop has Morals and Values
Disadvantages: Potential Hazard with no shower hook and expensive compared to other shower gels
Continuing the Passion fruit theme, I thought a shower gel would top this collection off. If, like me you love to have a shower most of the week (ending the week with a nice bubbly bath to unwind and relax) then this is the shower gel for you. Combined with the other passion fruit bath and shower products, this shower gel just adds to the yummyness.
*The Body Shop*
The body shop is renowned for its ethics and their values. These days, it's getting harder and harder to find ethical companies, who don't test on animals and who pay a fair price for the ingredients to the final product. The body shop support several campaigns, from defending human rights and making sure the people who work to make the ingredients work in a safe environment and get paid a fair wage; to activating self esteem right here in this country. Recently, Their 'Get Lippy' campaign has raised money and joined up with MTV to raise awareness of HIV and Aids among young people.
*Passion fruit*
The bath and shower gel contains passion fruit seed oil which helps to moisturise the skin. Having looked closer at the ingredients though, there seems to be many more chemicals than most of their passion fruit range which I think is because it is a shower gel as opposed to a lip butter of body scrub as it needs to cleanse your body. The smell of this passion fruit is fabulous.
The passion fruit range is usually suitable for normal/dry skin, however the shower gel doesn't state which skin type it is suitable for, so I assume it is okay for most skin types.
*The packaging*
The only other downside to this product is the packaging. With most shower gels that you can buy from the supermarket these days, there is usually a hook to be able to hang from a shelf or rack in the bathroom. However, this just comes in a bottle similar to the shampoo bottles. This could make life hard if you have a single unit shower with a shelf near the shower head as this would make it slippery and fall off - potential hazard (believe me - I went away with my other half a while back, had a single unit shower the shower gel fell off the shelf and we spent the next 5minutes banging our heads together before we finally picked it up - cue painkillers for the night). However, back at home I have a bath with a shower which allows plenty of room to place this lovely bottle anywhere on the edges. The shower gel is also very easy to pour out, but may leak if left without the lid on fully as there is no valve.
*How to use*
Well the tip on the Body Shop website is to exfoliate before you cleanse with the shower gel, however I cleanse with a body puff with shower gel all lathered up before I exfoliate. Here's how I would use it:
*Get wet under shower or in bath
*Get your flannel or body puff and open the shower gel bottle
*Pour some shower gel onto the body puff/flannel and rub between your hands until frothy and bubbly
*Rub over body to get the desired clean effect and rinse well with warm water.
*My experience*
Well, I have been using this for about a year and haven't regretted it (apart from the holiday experience - I advise taking a shower gel with a hook to go on holiday). Every time I open the bottle, I get this burst of fragrance which makes my mouth water and my nostrils crave more passion fruit. My skin feels soft, smooth and I haven't ever had an allergic reaction to it. It doesn't feel greasy and always lathers and bubbles up really quickly and easily.
I combine this shower gel with the scrub and body butter so generally, I smell faintly of passion fruit for about a day, however when I started using this product alone a year ago, it would only smell for about an hour or two according to my partner. The effect of opening the bathroom door when I've been in the shower however is amazing - the smell of passion fruit just bursts out of the bathroom onto the landing which is divine for any other members of my family walking past at that exact moment.
Overall, I love this product, the smell, the feel, the results, and the ethical morals of the body shop as a company. It is slightly pricey however at £6 for a 250ml bottle, when compared to other shower gels like Radox is on the expensive side, but if you have a Love Your Body card, you can get 10% off and if you go on the 20% promotional days, you can save even more money. The only other problem is that it doesn't have a shower hook which would be useful as it wouldn't fall off a shower shelf. Altogether, I give this product eight and a half out of ten for being brilliant but not perfect.
Price: £6 for 250ml
(Also available in a miniature toiletry range for about £3)
