Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Didn't remove enough hair and stunk to high heaven and me wanna itch myself into next year!
I don't know why I do it to myself! In all of my latter years of trying to find an alternative methods of hair removal all I've ended up with is throwing money away, being in pain, getting bad rashes and never ever getting a decent result but still I can't help but continuing my quest for something other than using a razor as it's so time consuming and because I have shaved my legs so much in the past 18 years my hair grows dark, coarse and fast and I need to shave my legs everyday or have really stubbly chicken legs. I did it to myself!
Now I'm no keen on Boot's 'Expert' products. I've tried a few different things in the range as it's so cheap usually and then there are times that it's on offer as well. On the day I purchased this it cost me £1.32 (usual price, £1.99 and I had a 100 points to go on my reward card if I bought it so theoretically it only cost me 32p so I forgot everything I said above when I got caught up in the excitement of a bargain!
The Packaging....
White recyclable box. On the top of the box I'm told it is Boot's Expert moisturising Hair Removal Cream. Then on the front of the box I'm told that information again and there's a picture of a woman's legs. On one side if the box I'm given list of ingredients and told it is made in France and the size of my product is stated (50ml) and I'm told the box is recyclable. On the other side of the box I'm given a list of warnings and told to follow the instructions. Then on the back of the box I'm told how it should work, and directions for use. The product is in a white recyclable plastic bottom opening tube which opens via a screw on/off lid. On the front of the box in dark blue writing I'm once again told it is Boots, Moisturising Hair Removing Cream, with Shea butter and vitamin E Leaves skin softer, smoother for up to 5 day. On the back of the tube once again I'm told what it should achieve, how to use, warnings, size is stated (as I've listed already) and contact details for Boot's are given. In the box is a white, almost see through plastic spatula to apply the cream with.
What It's Meant To Achieve....
Hair may be a fact of life but sometimes you've just got to draw the line. Fuss-free and easy to use this special cream works effectively where you want it, removing hair in just 5 minutes (although coarse hair may take a little longer). Shea butter and vitamin E boost moisture so skin is left smooth and silky for up to 5 days.
Firstly Test your skin by conducting a patch test. Select a small area of skin you wish to treat and apply the cream, following the directions (I'm about to give). Wait 24 hours. If there is no adverse reaction the whole area may be treated in the same way. Complete the treatment for one area before applying the product to the next.
Directions Of Use....
Apply the product evenly in vertical strips over the skin. using the back of the spatula provided, spread the cream so that all hair is covered in a thick, even layer. DO NOT RUB IN!
Fast Acting, no more than ten minutes is allowed on the skin so do watch the time and don't guess.
Rinse away and remove any remaining cream with spatula. Rinse with tepid water. Do not use soap.
Using It....
Well I admit I didn't do a patch test. Yes I know naughty naughty but in my defence I have used alot of lotions and potions of this type before and none have hurt me.
So I set about applying it. The cream isn't too thick and squirts out of the tube very easily. I applied it all over one of my lower legs and the thing that put me majorly off was the smell. Boots have tried to disguise the smell somewhat and if you sniff it in the tube it doesn't smell to bad but once applied it smells like old fashioned hair removal cream. Yuk!
I spread on quite a lot so it thickly covered all my hairs which were quite long. The cream felt wet and cold and it spread easily and felt a little greasy. I used my spatula which was very simple and I didn't get into too much of a mess. My skin tingled slightly and I left it on for the max time of 10 minutes due to the fact that my hair was very thick and coarse. So yes it tingled but it didn't hurt me.
I removed it with my hands in the shower under warm shower water using the spatula to scrape off the excess cream and when done I dabbed my leg with a fluffy towel full of excitement.
However....
Yes a little hair was removed but not much, only a few 'sprigs' of hair and certainly not enough to ever warrant using this again. I was still far too hairy and for me using it for the max ten minutes I have no where else to go and wouldn't dare use this for longer. Where the hair was removed from felt incredibly smooth like I'd used a very expensive moisturiser and if the product had of worked better I'd be raving about it for this reason.
The smell on my legs wasn't rinsed off and I stunk of it. My legs tingled and started to actually hurt and so I did have to have a shower and used a mild shower gel (not recommended) but I simply couldn't stand the stench and my legs were uncomfortable. Washing it off properly was the best thing for me and I never scrubbed at myself but I did get rid of the smell and neither when using this or showering did the area go pink and look sore.
Overall.....
Absolutely disgusting. It stinks and it don't work and it tingles and hurts and all you want to do is itch when you rinse it off. This really is simply crap and not recommended by me. This is not sensitive enough for my skin although I agree if it worked it would be incredibly moisturising but that moisturising feeling gave way to it itching me and making me scratch at myself. The only thing that stopped me scratching after using this was some E45 itch relief cream that I happened to already have.
This is one of the worse products I have ever used personally I will now be boycotting this so called 'Expert' range as nothing I have used has impressed me what so ever. Basically this is economy rubbish put under a different marketing strategy. My advise is don't buy it even if it is cheap cos you may as well save your pennies and treat yourself to a big bar of galaxy! Your missing out on nothing by trying this....trust me!
Summary: Doesn't work!

Carrington - 01/09/08 I don't know how Boots can sleep at night when they're selling such junk. I have tried a few products from the range and none have impressed me. This hair removal cream smelt disgusting and definitely didn't work for me.
Great review. Summarises exactly how I feel about this product as well. |
