Advantages: fast results, ease of use,
Disadvantages: smallmixing dish and large spatula
I have been using Boots expert hair lightener for about a decade now. I have used other makes but I find this by far the easiest to use with the best results in the least time.
The box changed recently but the product is as great as ever.
OK, so I ummed and aahed about writing my review on this product - I mean, for a decade now its been a little secret in the back of my bathroom cabinet ! Did I really want to let the cat out of the bag ? admit that I have a little tash ?! Well being of Mediterranean decent unfortunately Ive been blessed with dark body hair and envy those fair skinned, fair haired girls who have one less job to do fortnightly! Mind you then I see how they turn beetroot when I bronze beautifully in the sun and all is forgiven ha ha!!
This product comes in two sizes and I have managed to find it on offer before. The 100ml box lasts me around 6 months and I use it once every two to three weeks.
Personally I use on my top lip and my forearms and in the past used to put a streak in my hair too! It is advertised as being face and body bleach and I think that it is excellent not to have to buy two different products as is often the case, one for the face and another for the body.
The box contains two 50ml tubes. One 'bleaching cream' and one 'accelerator cream' a small mixing dish and a spatula. My only disappointment with this product is the spatula and I tend to use a cotton bud to apply as I find the spatula too wide and clumsy .
The bleaching cream contains Aqua, Petrolatum, Cetearyl alcohol, Hydrogen peroxide, PEF-20 sterate, Phosphoric acid, Sodium stannate.
The accelerator cream contains Paraffinum liquidum, Ammonium bicarbonate, Petrolatum, Sodium bicarbonate, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan laurate, Tribehenin, Disteardimonium hectorite, PVP/hexadecene copolymer, Propylene carbonate.
Because of the ammonia and Hydrogen Peroxide I would recommend a small skin test 24hrs before actual application before a first use. I have never had any reaction to this product.
Before use, wash any areas that are to be applied with the solution with soap and cold water and pat dry. Next mix equal quantities from both tubes in the mixing bowl and mix together. Apply covering the hairs completely, this needs to be done within half an hour of mixing the creams together. After 10 minutes remove a small area to see if you have achieved the desired finish. If its ok wash away with warm water or you can leave for a further 5 minutes but when using this regularly 10 minutes is sufficient. I tend to apply 10 minutes before my shower and then just wash it off in the shower.
This product carries the instructions on the back of the box which I find really handy as you can stand it up and read it as you go along and there are no leaflets to loose and obviously saving paper!
It comes with the usual warnings that you would expect on this type of product.
Do not use on broken skin.
Do not use immediately after a hot bath/shower.
Do not use on sensitive parts of the body.
If you experience tingling you may be sensitive to this product so wash off immediately with tepid water.
On especially dark or coarse hair a further application may be required after 24hr.
Do not allow product to come into contact with fabric/furnishings etc
Avoid contact with eyes.
My only other comment on this product is not to use it immediately before going out as the skin may be a little patchy for a while and if you have a tan at the time I find that the skin also looks somewhat lightened after use but only for a short while.
Summary: Boots are the experts!
