Advantages: Good aftersun moisturiser.
Disadvantages: Not great at fighting off the insects!
This was one of many aftersun / moisturising lotions that were transported over to Italy before our arrival in mid August.
Given that mosquitoes have always taken a liking to me and the fact that we were staying with my Dad up in the hills, approximately 20 mins from the sea, after one night of being mauled by different insects I thought it appropriate that I would give this a try.
- Price and Packaging -
This was originally £9.24 for a 400ml bottle but it was bought when Boots were having a 3 for 2 offer. Now that the holiday season for the majority is nearing its end, it is now half price at £4.62.
Despite sending a photo link to dooyoo, the photo doesn't show the actual packaging, it isn't orange as shown but a pale blue / light aquamarine coloured bottle.
It has a flip top lid under which is a small hole from which the cream is dispensed.
- What does it contain and promise? -

~ gentle cooling lotion.
~ provides long lasting moisturisation.
~ helps prevent peeling and prolong a natural tan.
~ contains gentle effective odourless insect repellent.
~ non-greasy and easily absorbed.
~ non-pore blocking.
~ dermatologically tested.
~ hypoallergenic.
- My experience -
* Appearance and Texture
This is a white cream with a light, slightly runny consistency. It has a lovely fresh, cool feel to it when applied and just as it promises, it is quickly absorbed in to sun-drenched skin.
It kept my skin moisturised without being greasy and sticky and therefore was great at prevent peeling.
* Smell
This has a very slight floral scent to it but can certainly be used and was used on both male and females without being too feminine!
* Insect repellent
As described, there isn't any offensive scent from the insect repellents that are used within the cream but as for it's ability to repel insects, I still got quite a few bites on a night time whilst sitting outside on an evening. Certainly not as many as I would normally get from mosquitoes but during the day, I was badly bitten by horseflies.
* Overall
A good moisturiser for slightly dried out skin in sunnier climes. Not sure as to it's ability to repel insects totally. As already stated there were still some completely immune to whatever scent they put in this cream and still got a little nibble which wasn't great and still uncomfortable a week after returning!
Next time, I certainly wouldn't be paying extra for the insect repellent factor in the cream if the standard moisturiser was a lot cheaper as I was still ravaged to some extent!
- Other Soltan Aftersun Lotions -
Boots sell a range of aftersun lotions:
~ Aftersun balm
~ Aftersun lotion
~ Aftersun lotion with insect repellent
~ Aftersun tan prolonger
~ Aftersun gel with aloe vera
~ Aftersun spray
Summary: A good moisturiser for sun-drenched hair but not great at keeping insects away!

- 05/09/09 I got this free with a Boots kids suntan lotion product and have to say it was rather the same results. I didn't like the smell of the stuff either. |

- 05/09/09 Not much use as a repellent then |
