Advantages: Only need to apply every six hours

Disadvantages: Consistency of cream

When I went on holiday this summer to the Dominican Republic I made the mistake of putting some sun tan lotion in my hand luggage. I was aware that there were regulations for taking liquids on planes but I though if you put them in a plastic bag it would be ok. However you are only allowed to take 100ml and the bottle I had was 250ml, I was devasted at having to throw away a £10 bottle of suncream.

After that I was unsure of whether it would be cheaper to buy some more at the airport or wait until I got abroad. I decided to have a look in Boots and came across Boots Soltan Once. I would normally buy Nivea but loved the idea of only applying sun cream once every six hours. It was also on buy one get one free, so at £12.99 I purchased two 150ml bottles of Soltan Once.

I am really glad I did buy it at Boots as well because at the resort where we were staying they charged £20 a bottle, scandalous, but when there are no shops anywhere you have to pay what the shop charges or burn.

I have quite pale skin and burn easily, even in this country so, I was very wary of being in such a hot country, it was well over 30 degrees every day. It was so hot even sun bathing was hard work.
The lotion claims you only have to reapply every six hours or more frequently when in water. To begin with I probably did it a little more often than this, I didn't trust it to keep me protected for six hours and the thought of sunburn ruining my holiday was too much to risk. As the holiday went I became a lot more trusting of the product.

The lotion is of a very thick consistency and when we applied it first thing in the morning it was very hard to apply, it took a lot of rubbing in. However once it had been in the hot sun for a few hours it was very melted and runny, and easy to apply.

Two bottles lasted two of us nearly the whole week and neither of us got sunburnt in the slightest. We both came away with nice tans, although my husband was so much browner than me and I was so jealous.

Next time I go abroad I will be buying Soltan Once again, I think next time though I will buy it in a spray bottle if you can. A great sun cream, would recommend.

Summary: I was unsure at first but it really does work
