Advantages: nice, streak free tan
Disadvantages: the way Boots kept prompting you to buy their other products through the directions on the can
Three months I won this in a packet of prizes. Last week, with the good weather (though I like the weather, I don't want skin care so instead of hours of sunbathing and burnt skin, I opted for faking it) I decided I wasn't going to be the palest person on the planet and got to work. I normally use the Piz Buin fake tan and I'm never used mousse before. There's no category for the light mousse so I hope you don't mind me put it in the Medium section.
++Variety, the price and availability ++
There are only two mousses. Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse Light and Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse Medium. Also there's sprays, wipes or lotion in the self-tan range of Boots.
As it's a Boots brand, you can only get it at Boots. It's on special offer so at the moment it's £4.65 instead being £6.99 and in the can contains 150ml.
On the can, it says for superior results use Soltan Pre Self-Tan Exfoliator Exfoliator and Soltan Pre Self Tan Moisturiser. They are both at the moment £2.32. And if you want stain free hand, use Soltan Self Tan Applicator Mitt, which is now also, £2.32. Why does this free tan seem to be getting more and more expensive for better results??
++ The Packaging ++
It comes in a can, which is a bronzed colour with a see-through top.
On the front, it has the Boots logo above the word SOLTAN that is over a golden sunburst or starburst depending on how you want to look at it. At the bottom, it has a smaller sun/star in silver and it says next to it Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse.
Under that, it says Step 3 in a box and then light and easy application. Hypoallergenic. And then in a yellow box with white lettering, which is very hard to read it says for a natural tanning look.
On the back, it says in white letters
Extra Benefits
For a naturally tanned look at any time of the year or to prolong an existing tan. Suitable for the face. Tans in hours lasts for days.
Directions
STEP 1 For a superior result use Soltan Pre Self Tan Exfoliator
STEP 2 Apply Soltan Pre Self Tan Moisturiser and allow to dry
STEP 3 Apply the mousse evenly. Use sparingly on elbows, knees and ankles.
WASH HAND IMMEDIATELY AFTER USE
For stain free hands, use Soltan Self Tan Applicator Mitt.
ADVICE
For a deeper colour wait 2 - 3 hours then reapply. Avoid contact with eyes, hair and fabrics. This product will NOT protect you from the sun. Always use a high SPF product for sun exposure. (Well at least they didn't try to get me to buy Soltan sun lotion as well)
Then it tells you that you should recycle the can when empty, keep it out of children's way and that it's EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. Then it lists all the ingredients and then it says SOLVENT ABUSE CAN KILL INSTANTLY and then it says 150-ml e.

++ The product ++
I used my coconut exfoliator two days before and then moisturised for those two days and I was ready for my self-tan session.
The mousse is a white colour on application but don't worry about that, most of self-tan lotions, mousses, sprays and wipes are. It's light and fluffy, which makes it easy apply to cover all the areas you want tan. The smell is alright. Not bad compared to some of them I've use and the smell does tend to stay on the skin for a one day and then starts to fade.
The directions on the can are pretty vague for my liking so if this is your first attempt with a self-tan product, you'd be a bit lost. As it doesn't say how long you're meant to put your clothes back on nor on how long you're going to have to wait for the tan to develop. I gave it an hour and a half and put my clothes back on and went to bed.
The following morning
Had a look at myself in the mirror wasn't that pleased with the effects on the tanning mousse. It was extremely light. So I decided to try again and apply another layer of the mousse. After 4 hours, the tan had developed and looked more like what I wanted it to look like after the first attempt. I guess the medium product would have been better. After 2 more layer of the mousse, I had a beautiful even tan. It's very painstaking method of doing a self-tan but gives you more control on how dark you go. Also the light mousse I guess is better for tanning your face because most self tanning products have a separate one for the face but this one, you can use all over your body.
++ How long does it last? ++
Well, I did it on a Monday and now it's Monday again and it's nearly gone. Just a light brown left and slightly patchy. I do take a lot of showers and baths so maybe it might last a bit longer than that but I doubt it.
++ Overall Comments ++
Although it's a slow process with this mousse, it leaves you with the desired effect. A nice tan with no streaks. Perfect for the weather we just had. I don't look out of place but I do look like I've had a nice weekend away. One bad point though, I didn't like the way Boots kept prompting you to buy their other products through the directions on the can. It's annoying. Also it's a bit expensive if you have to apply 4 times to get the colour you want but as I didn't buy it, I'm very pleased with the overall outcome.
