Burt's Bees Milk & Honey Body Lotion
Advantages: Softens skin.
Disadvantages: Smells strange.
I got this Burts Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion in a gift set at Christmas time. I had always like the look of the Tips and Toes Kit so was very pleased to receive this as a gift. The body lotion was one of five items in the set all aimed at protecting and providing nourishment for your hands, feet and face and lips. They are all miniature versions of Burts Bees products.
This body lotion came in a 25 g or 1 oz tube. The tube is soft and malleable so can be squeezed easily to dispense the lotion. The end of the tube is sealed with a foil cover when you first open it. I like this as it guarantees freshness.
The tube is printed with some information but for a more thorough look at the brand and their products I'd recommend visiting their UK website. The tube, however, provides enough information for me to feel happy about using the lotion. The lotion is marked as being certified by the 'Natural Products Association', for instance, and also carries the 'not tested on animals' logo. The lotion is also marked as being specifically for 'normal to dry skin'. This is an apt description of my skin at the moment as it battles the winter weather!
The lotion is a shade of milky-honey and glistens with a pearly sheen. It is fairly thick, a lot thicker than most body lotions I've used. It's actually more similar in texture to a facial moisturiser. At the consistency it is I'd have to describe it as a cross between a lotion and a body butter. It does feel like it's whipped up or something too as it's quite light despite being rich. It's quite thick when you squeeze it out but it melts into the skin easily so a tiny amount goes a long long way. To cover my hands, for instance, I don't even need a pea sized amount of lotion.
The lotion has a sweet smell when you initially dispense it but the fragrance changes when your skin has warmed it up. At first the fragrance is delicious and like a creamy rice pudding. However, when I smell my skin after application there is a familiarity to the fragrance that is very offputting. It smells like my furniture polish! After visiting the website I discovered this lotion actually contains beeswax just like my furniture polish so that's why the fragrance is familiar to me. I do find it a little off-putting and wish there was a bigger dose of sweetness to counteract this rather sharp, musty beeswax scent.
As mentioned you should visit the website to find out more information but this product also contains shea butter, coconut oil, soybean oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, honey, rosemary leaf, sunflower seed oil and nonfat milk. Burts Bees say it is dermatologically tested and state the ingredients are rich in vitamin E which is beneficial to skin. The lotion is said to moisturise for 24 hours. Although I haven't needed to be moisturised for this long I have found the lotion provides long lasting softness and suppleness to skin.
The lotion is great at making dry and scaly areas feel amazingly soft and smoothe in an instant. On my hands it's like a miracle lotion because whilst it softens skin you don't feel sticky or heavy with the lotion. It does not make skin feel damp or treated. It simply feels like I have perfectly healthy skin.
I would definitely buy this again because I feel it works very well and feels lovely on my skin. As far as the fragrance goes I am still a bit turned off because of the similarity to my beeswax furniture polish. However, I can live with this for the benefits of using the lotion!
You can buy this lotion either on it's own or like this in a gift set or kit. I think the small kits are great as it allows you to test out the various products without spending a small fortune on each item. The products from Burts Bees are nomally quite expensive and this is currently on sale for £5.99 for 70g.
