Advantages: Dont need water, small enough to keep in your handbag.
Disadvantages: None
Since having my first baby 14 weeks ago I have become more conscious about germs and cleanliness. Not that I wasn't clean before but then I only had me to worry about and not a small baby!!
It was my mother that introduced me to Carex hand gel, it is a gel that you squirt onto your hands and rub it in, it claims to kill 99.9% of germs so is basically the same as washing your hands with soap and water. They have this antibacterial gel in hospitals now, usually on the end of each bed.
I bought a 50ml bottle from Sainsburys for 99p, the bottle is small and clear and has a pump action top with a clear plastic lid. I chose the aloe vera hand gel, there was also a fragrance free, sensitive one. The gel for the aloe vera is a pale green in colour. It has the Carex logo in blue on the front of the bottle and at the top of the bottle it says that the bottle contains 100 applications.
Whenever you want to clean your hands all you need to do is squirt roughly 4 pumps of the gel into your hands, rub together as if it was soap and it dries within seconds, hey presto your hands are lovely and clean!
I found that this product is excellent as it is so quick and easy to use, for instance when I change my son's nappy I can just squirt this into my hands and they are clean, which saves me a trip upstairs to the bathroom to wash them. I also use it before I prepare his feed so I know I won't contaminate it with any germs. I especially like it as it is small enough to fit into your handbag, so you can carry it around with you and use it when you go to a public toilet that may not have very good washing facilities.
I went back and bought another bottle to keep in the bathroom, now I have one in there and one in my handbag!!
Summary: A great alternatve to soap and water
