Advantages: dries immediately, smells OK, non-drying
Disadvantages: not as satsfying as using soap & water
All the attention given to the media about MRSA, food hygiene, various superbugs & swine flu must have helped increase the profits of companies such as Carex & Dettol etc.
Personally I think the ads on TV & the information in the booklet on swine flu say it all - we just need to cover our noses, dispose of tissues & keep our hands clean. Sometimes though, it's not always possible to access soap & water, which is where products such as Carex Hand Gel come in really useful.
Whether it be at home, work, out shopping or generally out & about I think it's worth popping one of these little bottles in your pocket or bag just in case you need it. I'm not saying that we should become obsessed with keeping our hands clean as we all know that some bacteria is good for us, but it's useful for squirting when you've used the loo or are handling food.
I paid £1 at one of our local pound shops for a 50ml bottle which is around 100 applications. The clear liquid is easily dispensed using the pump & the recommended amount is just 2 squirts.
Although the product is alcohol-based I haven't experienced any dryness on my hands - in fact they feel quite smooth. I was also expecting a chemical sort of smell but this is quite nice & reminds me of a very mild baby lotion.
All you do is apply 2 squirts each time you use it & rub your hands together & it dries instantly so is great if the phone rings when you're cooking or spend a lot of time sharing keyboards, going round charity shops, visiting hospitals etc.
I wouldn't replace handwashing ,which I find satisfying, but this is a great alternative if you want to kill 99.9% of bacteria (as claimed on the bottle) in just a moment.
