Being a huge make up fan I was delighted when my OH aunt walked through the door with a box of make up and offered it to me, of course I didn't refuse and was soon upstairs rumaging through all the make up, I was shocked to see that most of it was very expensive, Clinique, Dermalogica, Clarins! Estee Lauder..I couldn't wait to try out everything because I know that with some products you really do get what you pay for.
You think I was shocked at some of the other prices of things? The price of this blows me away! you pay around £40.00 for a 200ml tub, very shocking, but it does promise to deliver great results and my own cousin actually owns this too as she is very unhappy with her body and wants to look her best so I can really see the appeal and why people would think its worth the price tag. Once again please look around if you would like it cheaper as I am sure some places would do it at least a little bit less.
The tub is very nice and simple, again like most of its other products its quite sleek and has an expensive and luxurious look about it.
The tub is white, has a lovely bright gold rim just under the lid and has a lot of information wrote on it in red. The lid matches the tub and is white too, also the twist off type.
So what does the cream promise too do? The soft, melting texture is ideal for massage application to effectively stimulate the circulation: tissues are drained to promote more streamlined body contours and slow down the appearance of stubborn curves. Firms the skin and helps avoid the risk of stretch marks. It also moisturizes, to leave skin soft and supple.
I am in no means perfect, I have acne, a big tummy, horrible arms and lots of cellulite, I loathe my body and I like things that make it seem nicer! It says to apply in a upwards motion, usually whenever I apply a cream or moisturiser its when I get out of the shower so I had a hot shower and used this then.
I decided I would use the left of the cream ( about 90ml ) on my thighs as they are probably the worst place on my body, and I thought the cream would work well on my cellulite and fat.
The cream is very soft and silky, and feels fabulous too touch, it has a really nice consistency too it, its quite thick yet its so light when touching your skin.
The cream is very easy too apply and because of how silky it is it glides on my skin beautifully.
The cream absorbs easily enough but does take a good few minutes too work into your skin.
I have to say with about 10 uses of the 90ml which I had left I noticed no difference in my legs, they did not seem firmer, and none of my cellulite had banished so I was extremely disappointed. I do notice my thighs are a lot softer and have more of a shine to them after continuous use of this for over a week, my OH has noticed this too! but the effects of that soon wear off after a few days of not applying.
My cousin has had the same results as me, her skin is not much firmer but she does admit her skin is healthier and I do think I notice it too.
Over all, not worth the price tag.
Luckily I was given this as a Christmas present - no way could I afford the £37ish that Clarins sell this product for! Having used their products occasionally over the years with great success I was thrilled to receive this Body Shaping cream but have to say I was very disappointed.
It sounds like a miracle cure from the description of the cream given on the jar as it claims to re-sculpture, refine and smooth out the dimples/ wrinkles/ cellulite/ fatty areas by using this cream on a daily basis. Like most women I have soft fatty areas at the top of my arms, the tummy area and hips, but I should have known from experience not to believe everything I'm promised in the beauty department.
The pot is beautiful and looks very stylish with its twist top lid and gold detail and looks very expensive. The cream is lovely to use because it is not greasy and is very easily absorbed into the skin and there is no residue. I cannot put my finger on the smell but it is quite pleasant, not floral, pretty fresh and very Clarins - I cannot get a clue from the list of ingredients I'm afraid, but whatever the fragrance is it does not linger for too long.
It is advised you apply to the skin with upward strokes to the problem areas and I used mine after having bathed so it would be absorbed better. I have to say that my skin did feel softer and smoother compared to areas where I did not apply the cream. However, I did not notice any reduction in the fatty parts- I even measured myself each week and there was no difference whatsoever despite Clarins' claims which are as follows -
- makes the body look more refined and shapely by firming up the body skin
- combats dryness by re-forming the structure of the skin.
Ingredients include the following -
- Sveltonyl (produced by Clarins) which acts as a body contour
- Bamboo extract which acts as an aniti-oxidant plus allows easier absorption of essential minerals and nutrients
- Caffeine which is said to promote the circulation of the blood and breaks down fatty cells.
- Keratolin which works together with the caffeine.
Well, in all honesty, despite high hopes and expectations this Body Shaping Cream did nothing to sculpt my body unfortunately , although my arms and tummy area did feel nice and soft even if they did still wobble!
I am going to stick to my good old Bodyshop body brush and maybe pop some caffeine into my 'problem areas'!
The Body Shaping Cream by Clarins does pretty much what it says on the tub. Its purpose is to firm up the shape up the skin making it appear firmer and healthier. The product promises to smooth the skin, repairing any dryness and reforming the structure of the skin.
It claims that by stimulating the body's circulation it will make your body streamlined and that it will reduce the risk of stretch marks appearing all while leaving your skin as soft as silk. From that description, it almost appears to be a magical cream.
How does it work?
The product contains Sveltonyl which is a complex created by Clarins that has been designed to firm and tone the skin and well as improving the contours of the body. It improves the appearance the skin, making it tighter in a good way and looking more youthful.
Bamboo Extract is included in order to firm the skin. It also enables the body to more easily absorb essential minerals and nutrients, therefore improving the overall health of the skin. The extract is soothing on the skin and as it is an antioxidant, it helps to keep the skin looking younger for longer.
Caffeine is also present and this is a substance which is frequently found in cellulite treatments. It helps to increase the blood circulation and also prevents water retention both of which help to stop the horrible dimples in the skin and leave it looking smoother. The caffeine also helps to reduce the fat content of the skin by breaking down the fatty cells and burning them away.
Keratolin performs many of the same actions as the Caffeine and so together their actions are even stronger. The substance helps to leave the skin looking and feeling smoother and softer.
How do you use the product?
This product is suitable for daily use in the place of your normal moisturiser. It needs to be massaged into the skin using upwards strokes because this is the direction of the blood flow. You need to continue massaging until the product has been fully absorbed.
Clarins advises you to concentrate on the problems areas and I took this to mean your wobbly bits. So although I use the cream all over, I especially concentrate on my stomach, hips, upper arms and thighs.
The product comes in a pure white circular tub with a screw top lid. The design of the packaging reflects the purity of what's inside. The packaging is great because it's easy to access every last drop of the product so that there will be no wastage.
Here's the bad news. The product costs around £35 for 200ml which is an awful lot of money for a skin cream. I very luckily received this as a gift and there is no way that I would have purchased this up front with my money. As it is designed for daily use, it won't last much longer than two months and I am already about half way through mine.
The cream itself is very light and silky. It seems to melt into the skin without much effort but as the massaging action on application will help to tone and smooth the skin, I continue with the upward strokes even after the product has been absorbed.
The cream does not leave your skin looking or feeling greasy. It feels completely comfortable and you can dress fairly quickly after application. As with all treatments of this kind, the product needs to be used every single day in order for it to be effective.
I've had mine for a month now and my cellulite has lessened in appearance quite a lot although I know this may also be due to the fact that this gets me massaging my skin every day. The problem with this product is that it is not by any means a permanent solution and the effects will only last as long as you use the product.
My skin is definitely smoother and my skin is toned and more healthy looking. I suppose the contours on my body are more defined but again this may be because the area is being massaged daily.
All in all, this product is great and it does improve my skin and makes it more toned. It feels soft and silky and although the smell of the product is not usually the scent I would for because I prefer sweeter aromas, it is subtle enough not to bother me.
Sadly the price of this product is too much for me to repurchase so once this tub is gone, I'm sure my skin will go back to normal. That said, I would be more than happy to find this product in my Christmas stocking.
This was the final piece of the Clarins set which I received for Christmas and have been starting to use recently. This 200ml round white plastic pot comes in at a whopping £30 (search online for the best deals or ask your local concession for a sample before committing). It is not a price I would be willing to pay myself unless this stuff really can work miracles.
The claims are that this product helps to reduce the visibility of stretch marks and 'promotes more streamlined body contours'. I am not sure I even understand what that last bit means but I was expecting great things from it. I do have some stretch marks on my thighs so intended on focussing use on that area in particular. It contains caffeine, bamboo extract and kerotolin which are designed to have a draining and smoothing effect on the skin.
I do not really like tubs like this for body creams and prefer to apply from a tube or something you can squeeze, I find this kind of container is hard to judge the amount of cream you need with.
The cream itself is pleasant (although not particularly sensational) smelling, fairly creamy and silky feeling and rubs in very easily. It sinks well into the skin and I have to say I do notice an almost immediate softness to the skin this has been applied to. I do not use this every day but once a week after a full body exfoliation and I have been mostly using it across my midriff and thighs due to the claims about 'contours' and so on.
The only difference I can see long term is a better elasticity of the skin in these areas, the skin seems in a better condition - but I can see no visible difference in my stretch marks and that is a little disappointing. This may need continued use but I am already halfway through the tub (6 weeks after starting use) so I do wonder if one tub will be enough - and I have no intention of replacing it at the current price!
A nice cream but not necessarily a miracle one and for me it seems overpriced.
The clarins body shaping cream claims to help reduce stubborn areas of fatty deposits and helps to define the problems areas of our bodies-waist, arms and thighs. It is quite expensive at £36.50 for 2ooml but clarins is a pretty good brand so i decided to give it a try. It comes in a round pot (easier to get out the last few bits so you get your moneys worth!) plain white with gold edging round the lid. The instructions on the back are to "massage daily, concentrating on problem areas." I use
it morning and night mainly concentrating on my thighs and backs of the legs ( cellulite areas). The cream is white with a light texture. It isn't greasy and absorbs into the skin pretty quickly. It has a subtle smell, not the nicest smell but certainly not horrible and it isn't overpowering, you only get a whiff when you get close to the area you have put it on. After using it for about 6 weeks i can definately see a difference in the reduction of my cellulite on the backs of my legs. They are less dimply and the skin seems to be a lot more smooth than it was. I haven't noticed a reduction in the size of my thighs, the skin doesn't seem any tighter than it was but again i have noticed an improvement in the condition of my skin. I do like this product, but it is expensive for the amount you get. 2ooml doesn't last very long when you have a few problem areas. I think i will try a few other (cheaper) products and see if they maintain the effect that i have already had rather than buying it again and if not then it will be on my christmas list a few times over!
