~Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub For A New Skin~

This body scrub is offered by premium beauty brand Clarins. A body scrub is designed to exfoliate the skin, ridding it of rough cells and is commonly used to prepare the skin for self tanning.

This body scrub has some key ingredients which encourage it to remove the rough areas, impurties and leave your skin soft and smooth.

      *Bamboo powder - exfoliation
      *Liquorice extract - softens
      *Mimosa Tenuiflora - repairs
*Shea and cyamopsis - conditions the skin
*Moringa extract - removes toxins and purifies

This body scrub can be used on dry or damp skin and it is recommended that you use it once or twice per week. Concentrate on the rougher areas of your body, massage the scrub onto the skin and then rinse.

      ~Packaging~

This body scrub is conveniently presented in a plastic tube with a flip top cap. The tube is white with red writing and is typically Clarins in design. The tube can be recycled and this product has a 12month shelf life.

      ~Price and Availability~

A 200ml tube can be purchased from www.clarins.com, Clarins counters (House of Fraser, Debenhams) and online priced at £28.00. It is worth waiting for the Gift With Purchase offers which include lots of trial sized products with two purchases.

      ~My Thoughts~

I like to try out new body scrubs and whilst I favour Soap and Glory scrubs over any others, it is always good to sample something new. I have a few tubes of this body scrub in my beauty box which I received as part of Clarins promotions. £28.00 is a lot to pay for a body scrub and I would recommend sourcing a sample tube (either from Clarins directly or online). A 75ml tube can be bought very cheaply from eBay.

I quite like Clarins skincare and makeup products but I was unsure how their shower/body products would be and if they would really be worth the premium cost. The smooth plastic tube housing this body scrub is quite plain but functional. I keep my tube on the edge of my bath for using when needed. I find the recommended twice weekly use to be perfectly fine as over use of scrubbing products can cause discomfort to the skin.

      ~I Want New Skin!~

I very rarely self tan but I use body scrubs to rid my skin of those dry, flaky areas. I am prone to flaky areas around my knees and at the top of my arms so pay particular attention to these areas. Sometimes a body cream just isn't enough to leave my skin completely free of rough areas. I personally apply this to damp skin whilst showering - I don't think I would feel comfortable using it onto bone dry skin!

The scrub itself is a peachy colour and resembles a fairly thick but soft cream. The consistency of the scrub makes it very easy to apply to damp skin and a small blob spreads very well. The scrub doesn't have much of a scent - it smells cosmetic like and quite generic. A fruity smell would have worked well and made this scrub that little bit more appealing. Once applied to damp skin, the scrub feels very soft and turns into a creamy layer which feels quite luxurious.

Whilst the creamy layer conditions and protects my skin, I can feel the bamboo powder particles. These aren't visible but I can feel them as I massage the scrub over my skin. The bamboo powder feels very fine and kind to skin - it doesn't feel as scrubby or as harsh as other scrubs but this could well be down to the fact that it is mixed thoroughly with the creamy layer.

The scrub rinses effortlessly from my skin leaving it free from residue. Unlike some body scrubs, my skin doesn't appear red or irritated by this scrub so I can confirm it is gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. Once my skin has been dried off, I am pleased with the results offered by this body scrub. All over, my skin feels soft and smooth and the scrub doesn't dehydrate my skin or leave it feeling tight. This scrub does work particularly well on the flaky areas and 'de-scales' me so to speak and leaves my skin feeling great. These areas are left supple and smooth and my skin looks much healthier and fresh.

      ~Conclusion~

So, this scrub works well and my skin benefits from the combination of bamboo powders and the creamy layer (which I assume includes the shea and other notable ingredients) but unless I get this as part of a set, I won't be buying it at £28.00 a time. The tubes do last incredibly well and the results are long lasting. I do apply body cream after using the scrub but it isn't essential. I do like the way my skin feels after using this product but in all honesty, it doesn't do any more or any less than much cheaper scrubs.

I will use my tubes up but I will continue to buy Soap and Glory as they offer smooth skin AND a gorgeous scent at a 1/3 of the price!

      Thanks for reading :)

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Nice enough but not worth it's hefty price tag

        Introduction~
Although I'm quite happy with 'cheaper' toiletries for everyday use from the likes of Avon, Superdrug and Boots etc, I do like to pamper myself from time to time with items of pure luxury and this is where my passion for Clarins products comes in (thanks to my hubby's aunt!). My husband's Aunt is in her 80's and has such a good skin tone that could make her pass for someone at least 15 years younger that I demanded to know her secret and she swears by using Clarins products. Although I was happy to know I too could have skin like hers when I'm her age, I was well aware that Clarins items don't come cheap but I was very lucky to receive a gift set from her for Christmas which featured amongst 2 other items this body scrub.

        Price and packaging~
From the onset you can tell this is an expensive product as the packaging oozes sophistication with it's basic, yet sleek design of a tall upright standing vessel that is tube like. The colouring is predominantly white with smatterings of red for the lettering and is finished off with a decadent gold edging near to the opening at the base. There is a screw on/off lid which is easy to both remove and replace and from my experience of using it it hasn't leaked any of the contents out.

Though I received this as part of a gift set it is available to buy singularly for the not so economical price of £26! I could never afford such an item normally as my budget just won't stretch that far so this has been used once a week only as a real treat.

        Appearance of the scrub~
The scrub itself is of a rather thick consistency and has an *expensive* feel to it (which as I mentioned it isn't cheap!) which though it's thick it squeezes out of the tube with ease. The texture feels almost paste like before applying to dampened skin whilst the colouring is a delicate peach in colour. This is made with bamboo apparently, though I can't tell any signs it's involved.

The thing that makes it stand out from other similar products apart from the price of course, is the fact the grains used here are so small they are not even noticeable and if I didn't know I would say they weren't even present.

        My experience of using this~
As mentioned this was a present for Christmas so I have stuck rigidly to using just once a week as it's too expensive to just use on a casual basis. The scrub is easy enough to access once the lid is removed and squeezes out surprisingly easy o say it's such a thick consistency. As it has the appearance and even texture of a paste I was left wondering if this was actually going to exfoliate my skin at all as it really doesn't look it, on first appearances anyway.

Once I had applied a small(ish) amount to my thigh area I was surprised that it became quite creamy when interacting with water and though it doesn't have a grainy feel to it I could certainly feel it exfoliating as I rubbed it in circular motions.

This is made with bamboo though I'm not sure what part it actually plays as there is (disappointingly) no fragrance to speak of, so whether it's just mixed in with the ingredients somewhere I don't know.

        Results?~
This is a lovely skin scrub that really is very impressive as it doesn't feel like it's doing much at the time but afterwards my skin feels very smooth and polished. As it goes slightly creamy when using I found it rinsed away very easy and left my skin feeling very soft and quite supple (the bamboo at work maybe?).

This has left my skin feeling beautiful and soft and has caused no rashes or soreness despite my skin being quite sensitive, but I have to admit I wouldn't be tempted to buy this on a regular basis if the price was much lower as I have had similar results from much cheaper priced products.

That aside it does have that luxury feel to it so I'm quite happy to use on a weekly basis as it didn't cost me anything but I wouldn't part with my hard earned cash once the tube is used up and out of this and my Yves Rocher scrub (see separate review) I do prefer the YR one as it actually leaves my skin feeling in better condition.

I would have thought this would have a stronger scent, so that left me slightly disappointed as there wasn't any fragrance at all really and though that doesn't affect how it works I would have preferred some kind of smell at least.

        Recommended?~
        Yes and No.
My skin has felt smooth each time I have used it but I really don't think it justifies it's price tag and if you haven't used it before you are only paying for the name to be honest.
This is nice enough and if you are lucky enough to receive as a gift like I did then it's a nice treat as it does what it's supposed to but if buying I wouldn't recommend blowing your beauty budget just on this alone.

Out of the few Clarins products I own this isn't my favourite but it will do (for free)!
3 out of 5 stars from me.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Fabulous product, money well worth the result you get.

I love recommending this to people as it's quite different to other exfoliating products I've used. Rather than being large granules in a sort of cream, this is more like a grainy sandy paste. It's not a particularly pleasant colour and looks more like some sort of fish paste that should be in your sandwiches, but it is a fabulous product if you suffer from dry or blemished skin like I do. Despite being an exfoliator it is incredibly gentle and washes away to leave softer an smoother skin and I've found that it generally evens out skin tone.
If you suffer from patches of dry skin (not eczema, never use on eczema!) then this is very good at removing the dead skin. I wouldn't recommend it for removing hard skin from your feet as it's not rough enough for that. Although it says it's not recommended for use on the face, I have used it on my face occasionally and have had no problems. In face I find that using this on my face one, maybe twice a week leaves me with much softer skin.
There is no overpowering fragrance, it's suitable for use in the shower or just with some warm water in the sink. As with any Clarins product, the disadvantage is the price tag, but on this occasion I would say the money is well worth the result. Make sure you apply a little moisturiser after using though, or your skin will end up feeling dry.

            Disadvantages

Lovely scrub, but needs to go a bit further to justify the price

I received Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub for a New Skin as part of a gift set at Christmas. I am a big fan of exfoliaters as I love my skin to have that freshly scrubbed glow, and a fan of Clarins products in generally, so I was really looking forward to using it. It had a nice smell and massages easily into my skin, leaving it feeling very fresh and clean. My skin was very soft once I had showered off the product and I did feel that it acheived what it promised as my skin felt lovely and smooth. The one reservation I would have was that it felt like I had to use a lot of the product to scrub my whole body and therefore I'm not sure that I would purchase it, as you wouldn't get many scrubs out of the bottle. I think there are better smoothing scrubs out there for less money.
