Clinique Happy Body Smoother
Advantages: Creamy texture, quite moisturising, sinks in pretty quickly, nice scent, scent not weak
Disadvantages: Slight plastickiness to the scent, expensive, not as rich and moisturising as some normal lotions
I don't usually use body lotions to match my perfume unless I get them as part of a perfume gift set, which is how I got this Clinique Happy Body Smoother.
Although the name Body Smoother is a bit ambiguous, and when I saw the name I first wondered if it was a moisturising lotion or an exfoliating scrub, it is basically just a body lotion. It comes in a bright orange tube with Clinique Happy in white letters at the top. It stands on its flip top lid and the packaging is fairly standard - I have no complaints but there is nothing special about it. My tube contains 75 ml but larger sizes are available to buy separately.
The tube states it leaves skin feeling smooth, silky and lightly scented in Clinique Happy. The lotion does have quite a silky, creamy texture and is thicker than some other designer perfumed body lotions I have tried which were a bit watery (such as Marc Jacobs Oh Lola lotion). It feels pleasant to use, can easily be rubbed in and sinks in quickly. It leaves a slight stickiness or tackiness to the skin surface if I use too much of it, but this disappears quickly when it happens and I don't experience that when I only use a small quantity.
It does moisturise but I would not say it is the richest and most moisturising lotion I have ever used, and when I want something just to moisturise the skin I can get something cheaper and more effective from Boots, such as the Garnier body lotion or Botanics body balm, but with this Clinique Happy Body Smoother the main aspect of it is the perfume.
The perfume of the lotion is fairly subtle compared to the perfume spray, and it is not noticeable from afar, but when up close you can definitely smell it on the skin and I would not say it is weak. When I layer this lotion with the perfume spray it does make the scent last longer. The only thing that I find a bit strange about the scent of the lotion is that it seems to have a slight plasticky smell to it which I don't get from the perfume. At first this was really off putting to me but I don't really notice it now so I must have got used to it.
Clinique describes the Happy scent as "A hint of citrus. A wealth of flowers. A mix of emotions."
It really is true that Happy contains quite a mix, and it creates quite a unique fragrance unlike any other perfume I have tried.
BaseNotes.com states the notes as follows:
Ruby Red Grapefruit, Bergamot, West Indian Mandarin Tree Blossom, High Altitude Laurel
Boysenberry Bush Flower, Morning Dew Orchid, Melati Blossom
Hawaiian Wedding Flower, White Crinium Lily, Chinese Golden Magnolia, Spring Mimosa Blossoms
To be honest, I could not begin to pick out most of these when I use the Happy products. Clinique Happy is such a unique classic scent that I would just say it smells of Clinique Happy! The citrus elements are the most noticeable for me at first, then I can detect more floral, but it is not a pink girly sort of floral. Happy smells crisper than most other florals I use. It seems to have a lightness and freshness to it. I think it is a clean smell. However, the sillage and lasting power of Happy is strong, so if I want to tone it down and just have something subtler I can just use the lotion on its own, without the spray.
I do like this lotion but I don't use it that often and I don't think I would buy another one, purely because these perfumed lotions are expensive compared to a normal body lotion and I would rather just use a normal moisturiser then spray on my perfume, but for someone who likes perfumed lotions and enjoys the scent of Clinique Happy I would recommend this as the scent is not too weak and the lotion is a nice creamy texture.
Summary: Quite nice for fans of Happy
