Advantages: Lovely scent, easy to use, absorbs quickly

Disadvantages: Bigger pots are quite expensive

I'm not really a fan of using body moisturisers, because my skin is pretty healthy and doesn't dry out so I don't really see much point - not to mention I don't get the time to pamper myself very often! But when I received a free 50ml pot of The Body Shop's Coconut Body Butter with my copy of Marie Claire this month, I thought it'd be worth a try as it didn't cost me anything, and to be honest, it smelt gorgeous!

The Body Shop are famous for their body and beauty products because they do not test their products on animals. They do many products from make-up, to shower gels to these body butters. Their body butters have won man awards in the beauty industry, most recently winning The Sunday Times Style 2008 award for Best Body Moisturiser for the second year running, a pretty good accolade for them! So I knew this was going to be a good moisturiser and set about using it.

Obviously in this weather, we're all wearing cropped trousers and shorts a lot, and my legs do dry out a bit from the sun, and the shaving creams and razors I use on my legs. I thought therefore that my legs would be a good place to try the product, so after having a shower, I sat down and started to use the product. First thing I noticed about this body butter was the gorgeous and rich scent of it. It is certainly a strong coconut smell, but not horribly strong. It smells creamy and delicious, and I hoped the smell would last on my skin for quite a long time!

The body butter is quite solid inside its brown pot but when you go to rub some onto your fingers, it almost melts quite easily under the heat of your fingers and turns into a nice spreadable consistency. It's a pale cream colour and therefore goes onto your skin pretty transparently which is handy. I found that I didn't need too much of the butter on my legs (maybe because I only have short legs lol) but it did spread itself very well, not leaving thick patches that wouldn't sink it or spread. The butter took a few minutes to sink in, and straight afterwards my legs felt so soft to the touch and smelt really divine. The next morning, my legs were still so soft and silky smooth to the touch, I was really impressed with this product!

The Body Shop website claims that the Coconut Body Butter is for normal to dry skin, and I would agree with this. I have normal skin generally, but as I said occasionally dry skin on my legs and this product works well whether my skin is dry or normal which is great. I know I won't have to change moisturiser if my legs gets dry so its a great product to keep in your bedroom to pop on in the morning to make your legs fresh and soft.

The body butter contains Shea Butter, which helps to moisturise and soften your skin; Cocoa Butter which moisturises leaving your skin lovely and soft; and Caprylic is gotten from coconut oil, another substance which really softens your skin. These 3 ingredients combined really make for a fantastic moisturiser and really moisturise and soften your skin without leaving it greasy and horrible which is what some moisturisers can do! And just to make you feel better about buying this product, it contains Community Trade shea and cocoa butter, meaning that money goes towards the communities who grow these products to enable them to build schools and other community buildings to develop themselves.

You can buy this product in 2 sizes. A 50ml pot will cost you £5 - this is the size I have and I feel it will last me a month to 6 weeks being used 3 or 4 times a week, but if you use it more generously it'll go quicker! Also a 200ml larger tub size is available for £12, although you can currently buy 2 500ml pots for £20 so you can save a bit of money there. There are many different tpyes of body butter available, see the Body Shop website www.thebodyshop.co.uk for more information on the different ones.

I'd really recommend this product to anyone, men and women alike, because it is a great moisturiser which leaves you with really soft skin and with a delicious coconut scent to boost! It's easily absorbed, easy to use because it melts when you take it from the tub, and the screw top pot allows the butter to keep nicely without drying out. It left my skin soft and smooth, and I'll definitely be buying another pot when mine runs out!

Thank you for reading!
