Advantages: Great flavour. Refreshing. Eradicates smelly breaths!
Disadvantages: None.
I never thought I'd get quite as excited over a tube of toothpaste but after discovering this Colgate Herbal White I have been telling everyone about how great it is! I had seen this on supermarket shelves many times and had avoided buying it as I was put off a little by the 'herbal' in the product name. It made me think of herbal remedies, old-fashioned concoctions that are never as powerful or as effective as modern tonics. However, I was finally tempted to try the toothpaste after seeing it on offer - 2 50ml tubes for £1.
The product comes in a malleable tube which is also boxed and it is available in large and small tubes - I have the 50ml sized one which I believe is the smallest amount available. The packaging stands out from the rest of the Colgate range as it has a vivid green colouring.
There is some information about the product on the outer packaging. The toothpaste is said to leave teeth "whiter [and] shinier...naturally". There is a list of special ingredients highlighted on the box too. These are:
Baking Soda: This salt is often used as a household cleaning product and is well known for it's cleaning properties. Combined with hydrogen peroxide it also has whitening properties.
Lemon Extracts: For taste and freshness.
Eucalyptus: The oil extract creates a cooling effect and promtes a sense of freshness in the same way a vapour rub works.
Melissa: A plant known as lemon balm whose leaves have a minty flavour to them.
The toothpaste also contains calcium and flouride to strengthen teeth.
The paste itself is white with turquoise stripes running through it. The white paste looks and feels very chalky and a bit more sticky and dense than other toothpastes I have used. I use this with a regular, manual toothbrush since the product contains baking soda which may be too abrasive if used with an electric brush. The paste becomes very frothy and bubbly while brushing but I can feel a powdery sensation on my teeth and gums if I run my tongue over them. A good rinse with cool water is needed to get rid of the chalky deposits. My teeth feel very clean and look bright after I use the paste.
The taste of the toothpaste is sensational. It has a mild lemon and forest-fern flavour and is unlike any other toothpaste I've ever used. It is extraordinarily refreshing. I have to say that I have used this after eating garlic and it manages to eradicate most of the taste and aroma of even this strong stinky food! The toothpaste leaves my mouth feeling cool and fresh without burning the sensitive skin in my cheeks or irritating my gums in any way. I have used lots of toothpastes that were just too strong and literally made the flesh of my lips peel (ugh!) but this Herbal White is very mild and kind to sensitive mouths. I can use it on a regular basis too.
I have never enjoyed using a toothpaste as much as I do this Herbal White. I reccommend it to those who would like a mild and unusual flavour as part of their mouthcare routine. It cleans, refreshes and provides a wonderful taste in the mouth!
