A six monthly check-up at my private dentist used to cost in the region of £45.00, which included X-raying and a thorough scale and polish of my teeth. I had no compunction in paying this, as I know how important it is to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy, plus the scale and polish really did make a vast improvement to my smile. Sadly, my dentist has now decided that a mere check-up (not inclusive of X-rays) is going to be charged at £35.00, and if I want a scale and polish I need to book a separate appointment with the hygienist at £29.00. Since when did dentists become too important to de-scale and polish teeth!? It's all becoming rather too expensive for my ... Read the complete review

Colgate professional weekly clean Part of the Colgate TOTAL range, this toothpaste is for those wanting "that dentist complete clean feeling". The professional clean is described as one which removes plaque and tartar to maintain good oral health. ~~What is it~~ Marketed as being like a professional clean, the toothpaste is a concentrated formula with the same cleaning ingredients used by dentists. It will give your teeth a full 12 hours protection. It contains something called Prophy-Silica which disperses through your mouth to fight all that bacteria, tartar and plaque. This will apparently clean not only teeth but ... Read the complete review

Teeth and oral hygiene in general is very important to me - so much so that I often find myself buying things for the pure gimmicky value of them sounding good. Obviously now I am trying to save my pennies so using review sites such as this one helps me make more informed decisions, but I still do tend to see something on the shelf and buy it "'cos it sounds fab!" This was one such impulse buy. I hadn't seen it advertised, nor had anyone recommended it to me - it was just there on the shelf when I was looking for toothpaste, so I picked it up along with my usual daily paste. So why did I get the feeling I needed to buy it? Well, the ... Read the complete review

Introduction Having just returned from my annual dental inspection (which I dread) I have to say I got off lightly for the tune of £16 and a small filling around a gold inlay. I have had a few years when thankfully my teeth have been much better following two sad extractions of back molars when I turned 40. However I used to get sent to the hygienist each time for the cleaning which always seemed quite an endurance for me, and so when I saw the Colgate product which was intended to help keep teeth whiter and cleaner I decided to try it. In case you have never heard of it Colgate introduced this a couple of years or so ago, and it is intended to keep ... Read the complete review

On my last six monthly check up with my dentist he mentioned that my teeth on one side at the back had some discolouration and that we'd have to keep an eye on it and it may need a filling in the future. I was petrified by this news as I am extremely lucky and as yet, at 28 years old, I have never had a filling and I really don't want one in the near future. He said I should floss more regularly, but I'm a bit lazy when it comes to that so I remembered the adverts I'd seen on telly for the professional dentist clean toothpaste and had read a review on here saying how good it was so thought I'd get myself some of that instead. I eventually remembered a couple ... Read the complete review
