Advantages: easy to use, leaves teeth feeling very clean, relatively cheap
Disadvantages: none found at time of writing.
Teeth and oral hygiene in general is very important to me - so much so that I often find myself buying things for the pure gimmicky value of them sounding good. Obviously now I am trying to save my pennies so using review sites such as this one helps me make more informed decisions, but I still do tend to see something on the shelf and buy it "'cos it sounds fab!"
This was one such impulse buy. I hadn't seen it advertised, nor had anyone recommended it to me - it was just there on the shelf when I was looking for toothpaste, so I picked it up along with my usual daily paste.
So why did I get the feeling I needed to buy it?
Well, the packaging looks great. It is only when you get home and realise the ridiculous size of the box compared to the product size, and think about how wasteful that is...that it doesn't look so great.
The box is eyecatching though - with words like "For that Dentist Complete Clean Feeling", "Professional Weekly Clean", and "With the same cleaning ingredient Dentists use!" written on the front - it would be difficult not to be impressed, or at least a little intrigued.
Closer inspection of the rear of the box reveals this:
-------------------------------------
Colgate Total Professional Weekly Clean is a weekly toothpaste with a concentrated cleaning formula that has been developed with and clinincally tested by dentists.
Its formula contains Prophy-Silica, with the same ingredient dentists use to safely and thoroughly clean teeth.
As you brush the Prophy-Silica formula disperses throughout your mouth to fight bacteria, plaque and tartar, thoroughly cleaning not only the tooth surface, but also in between teeth and hard to reach spots at the back of the teeth.
Use Colgate Total Professional Weekly Clean once a week, in addition to your usual toothpaste, to rediscover that dentist complete clean feeling. It also provides you with 12 hour complete protection for your teeth and gums.
Directions:
Brush once a week with Colgate Total Professional Weekly Clean, in addition to the usual twice daily brushing recommended by dentists.
Apply generously on toothbrush and brush for a full 3 minutes.
For optimal results, use in conjunction with your regular Colgate toothpaste.
The use of Colgate Total Professional Weekly Clean does not replace the need for regular cleaning by your dentist or hygienist.
Colgate recommends that you visit your dentist regularly for dental checkups.
Not recommended for use by children under 7.

***The Product***
So you open up the box (which is sealed with a tamper proof sticker), and it reveals a small (like travel size) tube of paste. The tube is 20mls, and you now wonder why it is in such a large box. There is however, a "usage calender" and they tell us to "Mark your weekly appointment with Colgate Total Professional Weekly Clean". It is important to only use this once a week obviously. Still no need for the huge box though surely, especially in such environmentally aware times.
The tube is your standard toothpaste squeezy tube, and the paste itself looks like a pale grey almost clear gel with minute grains within it - almost resembling tiny salt particles. The taste is very minty - this lasts throughout the 3 minute clean - but it is not unpleasant tasting.
This product really does make your teeth feel nice and clean after use - that kind of clean feeling that makes you want to keep running your tongue over your smooth clean teeth for a while throughout the day. I do find that you can get that clean feeling with some toothpastes now - so I do wonder how much "extra" work this paste is doing in comparison with those, but you have to agree, it does sound good.
There is enough product to last for 6 cleans - so 6 weeks - which makes the under £3 price quite bearable if it does indeed do all that it tells us it does.
I think that this is a product that I will add into my weekly beauty routine ("beauty" ha ha, as if). If it works - fabulous, if it doesn't, I've not lost a huge amount.
Summary: If it doesn't work you haven't lost alot, it it does work then your teeth will thank you for it.
