~Lavender Body Lotion~
Crabtree and Evelyn offer a range of lavender products including a perfume, soap, shower gel and even a hand scrub. Today, my review will concentrate on the body lotion in this range. The following information is taken from www.crabtree-evelyn.co.uk.
This body lotion has a scent of fresh lavender, lemon leaf, tonka bean and soft musk and can be used alone or alongside the matching products if you wish to layer the scent. It is described as being a 'velvety rich body lotion' which will leave skin soft and supple. The lotion is enriched with evening primrose, coconut, almond and lavender oils alongside shea butter (check for allergies). Also included is extracts of white magnolia, elderflower and peony for their skin conditioning properties.
Furthermore, this body lotion is free from propylene glycol, mineral oils, phthaletes and parabens. The packaging for this body lotion consists of a rather simple looking, curvy plastic bottle which features a pump dispenser. It looks quite old fashioned in my opinion with illustrations of lavender flowers. There is also a travel size, tube version available too.
If you wish to purchase this body lotion, head to www.crabtree-evelyn.co.uk. At the moment, the 500ml bottle is priced at £15.00 (reduced from £20.00) and is on a '3 for 2' offer. The 50ml size is priced at £4.00 and is on a '4 for 3' offer. There is also a 245ml bottle priced at £16.00
I was given this body lotion (small size) by my Gran. She adores the scent of lavender and received a little gift set at Christmas but knew she wouldn't make use of the body lotion in it. I can't say that lavender is my favourite scent but I am happy to try new products and have been pleasantly surprised by the scent of this body lotion but cannot say it is one that I would rush out to buy for myself.
The lotion itself has a fairly thick, white appearance but easy to dispense. I would say that is thicker than a lotion but isn't quite rich enough to be considered a body cream in my opinion. Not much is needed per use - just a small blob is more than sufficient. The lotion feels really nice when applied to freshly washed and dried skin. I find that it spreads perfectly well and feels silky and smooth. My skin feels instantly cooled which I appreciate. I have sensitive skin and find that this lotion is gentle on my skin.
Despite Crabtree and Evenlyn claiming that this is a rich body lotion, I actually find it to be quite light weight. It absorbs into my skin incredibly quick and leaves no sticky residue which means I can get ready quickly without my clothes sticking to my skin. I would say that this lotion provides a decent amount of hydration to most of my skin but the extra dry or rough areas (at the top of my arms, knees and elbows) don't feel very moisturised. My skin does feel soft to the touch but given the price, I would expect a little more of a moisturise boost. I do notice that my skin remains soft for a few hours but given the moisturising ingredients within this lotion, I would have expected better results.
The initial scent of this body lotion is very strong - a very powerful lavender fragrance. I was a little wary at first that I wouldn't like it as I find lavender to be a bit old fashioned smelling. Once applied to my skin, the scent left on my skin isn't quite so overpowering. It is actually quite nice. The lavender scent is very natural and authentic smelling. After 30 minutes on my skin, it changes a little and a powdery, slightly sweet undertone to the lavender is evident which I actually quite liked. I found it to be a comforting and relaxing so now favour using this before bed rather than before going out for the day. The scent lasts for a few hours on my skin.
This is a nice enough body lotion but it isn't worth the high cost in my opinion. It is definitely going to appeal more to those who favour lavender but as someone who doesn't usually opt for lavender scents, I found the lasting scent to be quite pleasant and nicer than I expected it to be. This would be fine as an everyday lotion for those who have normal skin but it doesn't provide enough moisturisation for those with dry skin. For that reason, I won't be personally re-purchasing. I would recommend buying one of the little gift sets in this range (around £10.00) and trying it out for yourself. My small size has lasted well but I don't use it all that often as I favour something more intensive for my skin.
Thanks for reading :)
