Advantages: protects against everyday bacteria, leaves skin soft and smooth

Disadvantages: some bacteria can be healthy

I sometimes think that I have the worst job in the world, I mean visiting people at home, sitting, chatting and often drinking copious amount of tea, so where’s the problem I hear you ask? Well often we visit people who do not have the same standard of hygiene as us, either because they cant maintain themselves or their home, or because they cant be bothered. I am not talking about dusty shelves or un vacuumed floors, more like literally ‘jumping’ carpets or furniture if you understand me. Now quite often we do have to kneel down on the floor to perform various tasks, and sometimes said floor is not only grimy, but also wet with god only can imagine what!

After a visit such as the one above I feel less than clean as you can imagine so its off for a shower and change of uniform. I never felt that ordinary toilet soaps did the job required after such a visit, and bathing in dettol is never pleasant or practical, so I searched for something with a bacterial agent which was easy to use and to carry around.

I started using Carex body wash as it boasted such a bacterial action. The plastic bottle itself is 250ml in size and costs £1.99; quite often they are on sale as BOGOF or 3 for 2 offers. The plastic bottle has a handy flip top lid, making it easy to dispense and being plastic handy to carry around in a shoulder bag, or keep in the bathroom.

The liquid itself is generously thick and creamy, green with a slight pearlescant hue; I chose the Aloe Vera and Eucalyptus version. A small amount dispensed into the hand, onto a sponge or body puff is all that is required to generate a rich creamy lather, which really goes all the way to making you feel clean and refreshed. The scent itself is very mild, predominantly eucalyptus, and doesn’t smell at all medicinal. It does leave a slight tingling feeling, although this could be due to the vigorous scrubbing more than the product itself.

Once washed the lather rinses awa
y very quickly and cleanly, leaving no slimy feel to the skin. The skin is left feeling smooth and cleansed as well as moisturised. The body wash can be used as a bath foam too, although Cussons do produce a foamwash Carex designed to be used in the bath. I tend to use the body wash on James, especially if he has cuts and grazes – due to its antibacterial properties.

Although Carex bodywash will protect you from everyday bacteria, it does not protect against flea bites, headlice, scabies or fleas – proper specialised treatment will be required. Some exposure to bacteria is good for you and assists in building up a healthy immune system, especially in children. If you have been doing a particularly dirty job, you may feel the need for a body wash with a bacterial agent. You only have to look at the incidence of allergies in children in Sweden, where everything is sterilised and disinfected to the nth degree to see it is not always beneficial.

All in all I would recommend Carex body wash for use as I say after particularly dirty jobs or if children have cuts or grazes that are particularly difficult or indeed the child is reluctant to have cleaned. As with other soaps and shampoos avoid contact with the eyes, if this should happen, rinse well with cold water.

(off topic (again)) Thanks for yr comments - he has now rated 12 ops yet trusts the work of 139 members! I feel we ought to have the facility to remove our own name from someone else's C of F. I have mentioned this on the Opinionated Community message boards. All the best, Janna

I read yr comment on yr profile page - the same 3 people have also added me to their C of F without reading & rating any of my ops. It is a pity there is no facility to remove your own name if you do not wish to be added to someone elses C of F !! I have no intention of reading or rating any of their ops either, so they have wasted their time.
