Advantages: Foam festival!
Disadvantages: Too light scent
Imperial leather, like so many long established brands, is trying to reinvent itself. When I think of imperial leather I always think of the bars of soap with the little labels on that tries oh so hard to be high class when it's really just a common soap. I also think of Julie Walters, I'm not sure why, I think she was in an advert of theirs. I've always used it myself, I'm terribly allergic to most soaps and imperial leather likes my skin a lot, but apart from that I've never used any other product in their range, in fact it wasn't until too long ago I was even aware they did other products. Now I'm a shower gel junkie, I've always got at least two on the go at any one time, a zesty fruity one for the mornings and a sultry musky one for the evenings and I am determined to find an orangey smelling gel that I actually like (as I didn't think much of the original source gel you can see that that task is a hard one). So when my last disappointing bottle of Radox gel began to run out I headed off to Wilkinson's to find my next fix, this came in the form of imperial leather foam burst Vitality C variety. It doesn't say it smells of oranges but it's enriched with vitamin C and being described as having a citrus scent usually indicates an orange theme. Just to check I squirted a bit in the shop and it does indeed have a light orange grove aroma about it. I put the one I tested back on the shelf and picked one up to buy (naughty me!) I bought mine for £1.45 however; the price at boots is £2.99. Personally I think I got a pretty good deal. The range comes in a number of different varieties: Invigorate - Scented with ginseng Moisture delight - With a soft floral fragrance Perfect balance - PH balanced with a light delicate fragrance Pure Luxury - With Jojoba Vitality C - Enriched with vitamin C There is also a range of scent-sations foam burst product
s in: Cucumber and Lime, Ginger and Cassis and Juniper and Yuzu. These are priced at £3.49 at boots. It comes in a shaving foam style container and unlike most shower gels you can't hang it up, which is a minus point. It does have an ever so slightly ergonomic design to it so it's not difficult to hold in the shower with wet slippery hands. I had expected it to squirt out like shaving foam too, with that lovely 'swshhh' sound they make and to be all foam. But it doesn't, it squirts out silently and purposefully (if a shower gel can be purposeful) and it comes out as a gel. If you hold it in the palm of you hand it will very slowly and very slightly start to foam up. 'Oh' I thought the first time I used it 'that's a bit crap isn't it' I had resigned myself to the fact that this product wouldn't be the wonderfully foamy experience it claim to be until I started washing, as I start it working it over myself it began to foam up like the top of a soft lemon meringue pie, but this is orange meringue, I was mightily impressed. A small blob of gel goes a very long way, however due to my squirt happy ways I tend to use far more than I actually need. I've had the bottle about three weeks and I've been thinking it was empty for a about a week so far and its still going strong, which again, isn't bad at all The can says it will leave my skin wonderfully soft and refreshed and for once, the can is right. I did notice a difference in skin softness after using it. The scent is quite light and not nearly as sharp and zesty as I would like, but it is rather nice, it does not linger on the skin afterwards. On the whole I'm very impressed with this product and am definitely going to give some of the other scents in the range a try.

- 03/04/03 My husband uses this and really likes it but in my opinion, stay well clear of the orange one. When I was first pregnant, my husband was using that particular one and I'd only have to walk into the bathroom and smell it and I would actually be sick!!! Whenever I see the orange one now, I feel really ill!!!! The purple one is the best! |
