Advantages: Gives a fresh clean feel.
Disadvantages: Smells a bit like hospitals.
I was going on a trip to a safari park and thought touching the animals, eating and with the current Swine Flu, some anti-bacterial hand gel would be a good idea. Normally I don't bother with things like this, but with a little one in tow aswell I thought it was best to.

I often went past this product but never took a second look. While in Boots I decided to have a look to see what it actually claims to do.
It says it kills 99.9% of bacteria, fast. And helps stop the spread of bacteria on your hands when out and about.
No water or towels are needed!
It's claims to be
*Non-Sticky, Leaves hands feeling clean, refreshed and free of bacteria, fast & effective alternative to washing hands.
- My Opinion -
____________
When I first saw the product it reminded me of something you would find in a hospital, as the clear alcohol liquid is in a clear plastic bottle.
It has a basic design of a blue logo & the information in a blue or red colour.
On the back the information is printed onto a white type of paper so you can read it very clearly.
When I opened the blue flip lid placed at the top of the squeezey bottle it smelt slightly of hospitals, a disinfectant sort of smell. But at the same time it was fresh which reminded me of cucumber.
The overall scent is pleasant and not to hospitaly. If you put a little bit to much of this on your hands the smell can be quite over powering but once rubbed in fully it reduces.
When I first squeezed the bottle a bit more than I intended to use came out. It says use a small quantity but I accidentally squeezed out about a 50p sized amount. The liquid looks like gel and claims to be one but in fact is pretty runny and as I used to much it ran off my hand.
On first use I was rubbing the gel into my hands and it felt fairly sticky I wasn't that impressed as it says on the bottle that it isn't sticky!
But I continued with rubbing it in over my palms, in between my fingers and backs of my hands until they felt dry, you don't need to use a towel or wash your hands after using.
After I had completed this I felt very impressed with the product.
My hands felt clean, fresh and now non-sticky!
It didn't take long at all to rub the gel in and took less than a minute which is fab when your out and about.
When you use the correct amount of around a pea size the gel doesn't run off the hand and takes even less time to rub in over the whole hand and in between the fingers.
I find the fresh, clean feel lasts for quite some time after application of the gel. The lingering scent helps to keep the feeling too which I find very good.
When I was at the safari park I found it extremely useful and I was very glad I had it, mainly because after using the toilet there was no soap and the sink was fairly small with toilet roll in it- delightful! (That is the only complaint about the safari park though, it was a fantastic day!)
Getting a little one to use it was fine aswell, a very small amount covers their whole hand and as it doesn't take long to rub in they don't get impatient!
I have been using Cuticura for about 7 weeks now and so far I haven't become ill but then again I'm not one of those people who get ill easily.
So I can't say weather or not it does get rid of 99.9% of bacteria.
I have a large 250ml bottle as at the time it worked out less than a smaller bottle plus I thought I would get through it very quickly.
After 7 weeks of using it fairly often I'm still not 1/4 of the way through it yet so it's brilliant value for money!
- Where To Get It & Price -
_______________________
I got mine in the high street store Boots and a 250ml bottle cost £2.75.
A small bottle of 100ml is £1.29.
In Boots they are currently on 3 for the price of 2 and come in many different styles- Original (which is this one), Citrus, Kids, 2 in 1 & a few other styles.
You can also buy them in food supermarkets, pharmacies and probably petrol stations. Prices will vary!
- Other Information & Overall -
__________________________
This product contains Alcohol so it's flammable. Do not use on broken skin and avoid contact with eyes.
Do not store above 40 degrees.
I used it on a bit of broken skin accidentally, it was literally the smallest bit ever and it was fine, it did have a very slight stingy tingle but that was it.
Overall this now sits in my handbag so wherever I am, this hand gel is with me.
I will give it 4 stars just because you don't know if it does kill 99.9% of bacteria. Other than that I highly recommend it.

Summary: Fantasic if your on the go!

- 21/07/09 I prefer the lotion to the gel (it's blue) as I don't like the cucumber smell |

- 19/07/09 This sounds great. Let me know if you get ill before I go shoping next week though ;-).
I've taken to using the domestos stuff in the house (this SF outbreak and all the warnings I'm getting at work have made me 'bacteria concious'.). I had problems finding a decent anti-bacterial gel that didn't smell of lemon - so this could answer my prayers! Good review. |
