When the media first started scaring me with the idea of swine flu, I went to the shop and picked up the supplies I thought might help me combat this virus if it ever hits big time. I have no idea whether this will happen or not, but if it does I want to be prepared!

According to wikipedia, hand sanitizers are effective at killing the flu virus if they contain alcohol. Cuticura Original Hand Hygiene Gel does contain alcohol. In addition to killing viruses, it is proven to kill 99.99% of bacteria according to the label.

I bought this hand gel to use at work. Now, I could just go in the toilets to wash my hands after using the handrail to climb the stairs or answering someone else's phone while they were away from their desk. However when I'm done washing my hands I have to touch the toilets door handle which everyone else has touched, even those who haven't washed their hands!

Everyone at work tends to drag themselves in even when they are obviously very ill and so the whole office tends to catch whatever one person comes down with. I felt that if there is a swine flu pandemic I would be safer using this stuff at my desk.

However, hand sanitizer is not just good for pandemics but can be used every time you can't get to a sink but need to wash your hands. I'm currently having problems with my water supply at home so have brought my Cuticura home to use here.

This gel is quite watery so you don't need very much to wash your hands wiht - less than a 5p size bit. You dispense this onto your hands from the plastic container and then rub your hands together rapidly to clean them. This stuff smells quite strongly of rubbing alcohol but the smell soon fades to a pleasant, almost flowery scent when it has sat on your hands for a few minutes.

I have dry skin but I don't find this gel particularly drying. You can buy it for £2.79 at Boots for 250ml and I personally think it can't hurt to stock up on some.
