Advantages: leaves my skin soft, hydrated and silky smooth

Disadvantages: smells like vinegar to me!

I am currently trying to use up lots of unfinished lotions and potions that I have lying around the place, one of which is the Dead Sea Spa Magik Silky Smooth Body Lotion. I got this in a trial size inside a beauty box several months ago and to be honest it's not a product I would have chosen for myself. I've tried a fair few Dead Sea products over the years and although some people swear by them, I've never found that they do much for me or my skin, so I've pretty much given up on them.

This Silky Smooth Body Lotion is described on the packaging as being deeply moisturising and soothing to the skin. It contains ingredients which are certified organic, although the product as a whole is not completely organic.

The full sized product comes in a bottle, although my smaller sized one comes in a tube. I think I actually prefer the tube format as it's less messy and it's easier to get the last dregs from a tube. In terms of design I don't find the packaging to be anything special, in fact I think the blue and grey colouring makes it look masculine and I don't think it would jump out at me on a shelf.

Before going any further, I will quickly tell you about my skin. I have fairly dry skin which requires frequent moisturisation. My elbows, knees and shins can be particularly dry, although I also have areas - such as my arms and torso - where I would describe my skin type as being 'normal'. I do suffer from eczema as well, although I'm lucky and seem to only get it in small patches.

When it comes to the lotion itself, it is white in colour and feels incredibly cooling on the skin. In fact I would say it actually feels quite icy on the skin which would lead me to think that it would make an excellent after sun.

The lotion has a reasonably light consistency and spreads well over the skin. Indeed it does feel silky smooth on application and the texture reminds me slightly of liquid talc. I find that the lotion absorbs into the skin quite quickly, however at first a slight greasy residue is left behind. This too will eventually disappear but it tends to take around five to ten minutes to do so. Despite being greasy, it is not sticky, so I am happy to get dressed immediately after application without the fear of my clothes sticking to me.

I should touch on the scent of the product, which for me is one of the main downsides of the product. I'm really not keen on the smell, it has a quite a sharp fragrance to it, which reminds me of vinegar to some extent. I felt it was quite a masculine fragrance, although saying that, my fiancé has also commented that he thinks it smells awful. Thankfully the fragrance isn't too strong and can only be smelled on the skin close up, therefore I can just about bear to put up with it.

In terms of results, I have found this product impressive. It certainly lives up to its 'Silky Smooth' name and my skin feels hydrated and soft. Rougher, drier areas such as my elbows really seem to benefit from this product and my skin actually seems to look brighter and healthier after applying this too.

The full sized 350ml bottle retails at £7.70 and is available from Debenhams, John Lewis and www.feelunique.com. I think that is a reasonable price considering what the product does.

I am totally in two minds about this product as for the most part I think it is excellent. It makes my skin feel amazing and is quickly absorbed and light on the skin. On the other hand it smells like vinegar to me! And I don't think anyone really wants to smell of vinegar do they?! So to sum up, I would recommend it, but I would strongly suggest you try a little bit in the shop first just to make sure you can tolerate the scent first!

Summary: Good product - but a real shame about the scent
