Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub
Advantages: lather, smell, smooth skin
Disadvantages: price, a lot needed to perform
Dermalogica is a top brand who offer various skin and body products which are categorised by skin type and skin problems.
Dermalogica offer a scrub designed for use on your body. Today I will be reviewing Dermalogica Exfoliating Body Scrub.
This scrub is suitable for all skin types and contains no artificial colours or fragrances. Dermalogica claim that this scrub will smooth, polish and energize the skin. It is contains a few different essential oils.
*~*Packaging, Usage and Key Ingredients*~*
The scrub is conveniently housed within a tall, squeezy tube. Dermalogica claim to put more effort into the products than their packaging and this is obvious as the tube is basic. It is white with blue writing and features a few pieces of product information.
To use, simply massage a blob over wet skin until it forms a lather before rinsing. It is recommended that you follow this scrub up with a body lotion or body butter. The ingredients list is huge so I won't copy it over. The main ingredients worth noting include
*Powders - fig, date and olive seed powders are present. They help remove dead skin cells whilst protecting the skin.
*Papaya enzymes and rice bran - stimulate cell renewal
*Essential oils - a blend of lavender, orange, lemon, sandalwood and rosemary stimulate the senses.
Dermalogica is available in certain salons though the stock is often limited. The best place to purchase this scrub is online at the following outlets. It is a standard 150ml sized tube.
*www.amazon.co.uk - £25.00
*www.dermalexpect.co.uk - £19.13
*www.beautyflash.co.uk - £21.49
I have sensitive, dry skin which I like to keep in decent condition. In amongst my shower washes and body lotions, I have quite a few body scrubs. Whilst I am happy to continue using Flake Away from Soap and Glory, I am happy to try any new goodies that come my way. I have used a few Dermalogica products in the past and found them to be decent enough so was pleased to receive a tube of this in with an ebay lot. I have used it twice a week for a month or so now so felt it was time to review it.
The tube is pretty standard. It is bland but does the job nicely. My tube has been kept in the bathroom and sort of disappears behind the pink and girly tubes that linger in there! The tube is easy to grip with wet hands and on dispensing, the scrub has a thick, toothpaste like consistency. It is a pale brown colour and the scrubby bits look like grains of dark brown sand. They are well mixed through the scrub so aren't immediately obvious.
*~*A Relaxing Scrub?*~*
I like to use my scrubs in the shower and this one is no exception. Once my skin is drenched with water, I can get down to the nitty gritty. I dispense a decent sized blob onto my hands and start to work it across my arms (paying attention to the elbows) and then down my legs (paying attention to the knee area). Quite a bit of this scrub is needed to perform in my opinion. Due to the paste like consistency, spreading this scrub is rather awkward. The heat from the water melts it slightly allowing for an easier application.
Once I start to massage the scrub over my skin, the sand particles become visible and I can feel them. I wouldn't say this is a harsh scrub. It certainly doesn't feel scratchy on my sensitive skin. This could be down to the cleansing foam that is produced. The scrub foams up nicely and forms a soft, comforting lather on my skin which I feel calms the scrubbing element of the scrub.
The most prominent smell from this scrub is the lavender. It is quite relaxing at first but is soon joined by the more uplifting essential oils such as the lemon and orange oil. The scent is quite addictive and suited to either evening or morning use. It comes through quite strongly as the lather forms on my skin and is gorgeous. I only need to massage this scrub on to my skin for a minute or so and the sand grains begin to fall apart. By this time, my skin feels cleansed and the lather rinses off quickly without leaving any residue on my skin.
*~*Scrubbed To Perfection?*~*
Once the scrub has washed off, I don't need any additional cleansing on my arms and legs. I dry off and notice that my skin is slightly red for a short while though isn't physically sore. The surface of my skin feels smooth and from regular use, appears refreshed and healthier as the scrub strips the dead skin cells from my skin. Immediate results include fresh, cleansed skin which does feel a little bit tender. The softness aspect isn't strong enough to justify not using a moisturiser so I do top it up with a thin layer. Despite using another scented product, the lavender scent lingers and I love smelliing it on my skin at bedtime as it's very relaxing.
I am quite happy with the results offered by this Dermalogica Body Scrub. I do feel that I need to much of the product to see decent results though so it loses a star for value for money considering how expensive it is in the first place! It is an ideal prep scrub for tanning or simply rejuvenating the skin. Personally I wouldn't pay full price for this product. Considering I can buy a 300ml tub of Flake Away for less than £8.00 which offers the same results with a better scent and for less product, I couldn't justify this price I'm afraid.
Recommended if you can get it cheap but really, it isn't any better than Soap and Glory scrubs!
Thanks for reading :)
