Dolce & Gabbana The One Body Lotion
Advantages: Brilliant, strong and mesmerising fragrance.
Disadvantages: Is not very moisturising.
I'm not the type of woman who would ever yearn to buy any product from the Dolce and Gabbana range. I'm just not easily impressed by the big designer names. I like to rate individual products on their merits rather than just mindlessly buy things because they carry a brand name that supposedly lets other people know you are cool or affluent. That's why I wasn't too overly enthusiastic when a family member gave me a bottle of this Dolce and Gabbana 'The One' perfumed body lotion as a gift. They'd picked it up somewhere for somewhat cheaper than it's recommended retail price and were keen to impress on me what a great bargain it was. I accepted the gift gratefully but had no expectations about the product's performance or benefits based on it's brand name or price.
So the product I'm reviewing is the 100ml or 3.3 FL. OZ sized bottle of the Dolce and Gabbana perfumed body lotion. It's called 'The One' but there are several different varieties which are quite similar to this one. There is a 'rose' version and also a 'golden satin' version. This one comes in a small white plastic bottle which has a fancy gold top. My bottle doesn't have the rectangular top as featured in the Dooyoo picture but has a round plastic one which is shiny gold with a white band around the bottle. The top is easy to screw off and can be replaced tightly.
The bottle has very little text printed onto it but there are a list of ingredients as well as recycling information for the plastics, product shelf life information (it stays fresh for twelve months after opening) and contact information for the manufacturers who are P&G Prestige Beaute.
When you first open the bottle you can really smell the perfume as it's quite strong. You are able to squeeze the bottle to get the cream out or just tip it up and tap the bottom of the bottle. The lotion is not too runny so you can tip it out onto your hand without it moving around or dripping. The lotion is white and looks quite thin in consistency rather than being like a body butter. It's easy to rub into the skin and it sinks into the skin very quickly without it leaving the skin damp afterwards. The moisturising qualities of the lotion are about average. If you are looking for something to enrich dry skin then this isn't the product you need. The lotion is softening but not massively so. It's greatest quality is it's fragrance and ability to perfume the skin.
The lotion has an incredible, unique and powerful fragrance. It's notes include plum, vetiver bergamot, Madonna lily, muguet, lychee, jasmine and vanilla. My experience of the scent is that it smells like burning pine wood mingled with berry fruit and warm spices. As the lotion warms into the skin it takes on a more cool and milky fragrance though but it is still very intoxicating and remains so for many hours after application. The scent is feminine, sophisticated and sensual and it makes me feel confident and well presented when I use it. It is more suitable for night time and for special occasions than it is for casual wear.
My ultimate opinion of the lotion is that it is a really marvellous lotion for perfuming the body. In fact it has to be the best perfumed body lotion I've ever used in regards to the beauty and quality of the perfume, how long it lasts and it's pervading presence. It makes me much more interested in trying the Dolce and Gabbana eau de toilette/parfum range. However, this lotion isn't hugely moisturising and potential consumers should probably be aware that this product is more like a perfume in a cream form rather than a moisturiser infused with perfume! However, I'm enjoying using this lotion so much that I really am loathe to criticise it at all. It really feels like an indulgence to me. It's the perfect touch to a night out and it makes me feel so good. I would therefore recommend it to ladies who love to pamper themselves with scent and to those who are looking for a cheaper alternative to buying a high quality expensive perfume. These lotions are still a bit pricey. I've seen this one on sale for as little as a few pounds on Ebay and from £7 in established retail stores but also as much as £35 in some online retailers - so shop around for the best deal!
