Advantages: Not much, to my mind - a progessive advertising campaign perhaps?
Disadvantages: Very greasy and, I thought also stinky
I bought the 'for dry skin' version for a lark, as the repeated handwashing - with harsh, antibacterial handwash - that goes on when you have a toddler who's still in training on the subject of how to use the potty was really drying out the skin on the backs of my hands and my wrists.
I have never tried this brand before - their TV ad for underarm roll-on, that bangs on about the importance of moistuising one's armpits at the same time as deodorising them having really gotten my goat, I have been somewhat biased against all things Dove. But I read recently that Suzy Orbach consults upon their advertising campaign and I thought, how bad can it be - and the stuff's pretty reasonably priced at Tesco at the moment to boot.
Humph. First impressions were that I wasn't overly impressed by the texture. Having not tried it out in the shop I wasn't prepared for the huge thick splurge of oily material that gushed out onto my hand the minute I exerted slight pressure on the unstoppered container. It's very thick stuff, and, I think unduly greasy - that may be part of the idea for dry skin creams, but it's not something I've encountered before - not even in the formulated for Norwegian fishermens' stuff I usually use. The initial smell was not to my liking but it was quite faint and as I was going to bed at that point, I thought I could live with it. All that changes the following morning when I realized that the passage of time, or perhaps some awful reaction with my skin's own chemistry had changed the odour of the lotion to make it smell predominantly of stale fag ash, in which my whole arms and legs were now covered. Unfortunately I didn't have time to shower it off that morning, but kept getting whiffs of this horrid stink all day - and I realize now it's a unpleasant smell I've picked up from other people in the past - people I previously assumed - not knowing better - were all just chain cigarette smokers.
I can't bear that sickly smell of 'Dove' moisturiser now even when it's fresh - on myself or others, so that whole batch I just bought is going to have to go in the bin. Buy this stuff by all means if you like the 'scent' but its not at all to my personal taste.
Summary: Must be an acquired liking
