Advantages: Smells nice, moisturised my skin well

Disadvantages: Takes a long time to dry, doesn't go dark enough for me

As a pale skinned gal who doesn't tan naturally, it's not nice to stand out from the crowd, especially during the summer months when everyone seems to look like they've spent a week lying on a beach somewhere!

I've always used fake tan during the summers since I became conscious of this fact, and am always on the lookout for new products to try, so when the range of moisturisers with added self tan were released a few summers ago of course I decided to try them out! They are designed to be used as an everyday body lotion and build up a gradual tan.

Dove's version is called summer glow and there are two versions, one for fair to medium skin tone and one for medium to dark skin tone. The current price in Asda for this is £4.86 for 250ml however there are always various offers on these products.

I used the medium to dark one, although I am very pale as I actually wanted to be able to see a difference and thought that the pale one wouldn't tan me as well as I like.

My first thoughts on this when I opened it were that it smells quite nice for a fake tan, the consisitency is rather like that of a normal body lotion and a little does go a long way. To avoid streaks however I would advise using this product quite generously, rubbing into your skin in a circular motion. I applied vaseline to my elbows and knees first to prevent orange staining of these areas.

Once applied, it didn't seem to be drying very quickly so I stood in front of a fan for a few minutes and although this did help a little, once I'd got dressed I felt quite sticky for the rest of the day.

The next time I used it, I cut down on the amout I applied and although I didn't feel greasy or sticky I ended up with very unattractive streaks. Nice!

I then took to applying this at night so that I didn't have to put up with that greasy feeling all day long. My general consensus is that it although I was using the version for darker skin, it didn't make me very tanned in one application and I had to apply it for 3 nights before I had got to the stage that my usual fake tan would have taken me to in just one application.

One plus was that I did feel that this moisturised my skin well and I didn't get any dry patches whilst using it.

I can see how some people might like this product as it gives just a slight hint of a tan, however for people that like to look as though they actually have a good tan, this product is not for you. It takes too long to build up to a really good base and you have to put up with the uncomfortable greasy feeling for longer.

Summary: Didn't give me as good a tan as I wanted
