Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Left horrible white marks and made me sneeze all day
Normally I am a big fan of Dove spray deodorants, so when I saw Dove Hair Minimising anti-perspirant deodorant on special offer I didn't think twice and picked it up straight away. In Tesco the usual price is £2.99 for a 150ml bottle but I found them on offer at 2 for £4.
The deodorant bottle is a pale, dusky pink colour with the Dove name and logo on the front. The claim on the front is that it is 'hair minimising' and that you will look and feel hair free for longer. It contains ¼ Dove moisturising cream, it is alcohol free and will last for 24 hours. On reading the back of the bottle it also claims to have Pro-Epil Complex with natural extracts, unfortunately it fails to mention what benefit this ingredient has or what it is.
The first thing that jumps out at me is in the list of ingredients. The front of the bottle claims this product contains 0% alcohol, however in the listed ingredients is Stearyl alcohol and Benzyl alcohol. This is the second product I have found since starting reviewing that states it contains no alcohol but has it listed in the ingredients. After an internet search I found one American paper that states that a product can usually be deemed as alcohol free if they do not contain ethyl alcohols which are derived from grain but they may contain other alcohols known as fatty alcohols. While this is one explanation that upon searching the internet seems to be commonly accepted among the cosmetic industry, it does not give me confidence that other information they provide is accurate or trustworthy.
For anyone interested I am copying a link to one paper I found on the subject regarding cosmetic law. http://www.niehs.nih.gov/health/docs/beauty-or-bea st.pdf
After my short rant I should go back to reviewing the product. The scent of this deodorant is wild rose, when I smelled it there is a hint of a rose water scent but what it really reminds me of is palma violets. This is fine for me as I love those sweets, but I know that many people don't. I'm not sure if I would want to spend my day smelling of sweets either though.
Yesterday morning was the first and last time I will use this product. Unfortunately I had already put on my black bra when I went to spray the deodorant. The only way I can describe it is similar to using snow spray on the widows at Christmas. The white marks were so bad I actually had to get into the shower again. I also spent the whole day sneezing, it started about a minute after I used the deodorant and carried on for at least 10 hours. I actually went this morning and sprayed a small amount in the bathroom sink just to give it a second chance, it left a layer of white powder and again I cant stop sneezing.
Unfortunately this is where my review has to end, the product is so bad that I am not able to test their long term claims. It will have to be left to some other brave person to discover if continued use really does 'help your underarms look and feel hair free for longer'. If you do persist with it be prepared to have lots of extra washing, or not to wear any dark colours.
Summary: Why cant I give minus stars to this product
