I've suffered with hyperhidrosis for twenty years (my father has it too but it has never been discussed) and my life was ruled by what I could and couldn't wear. I had to think about what I could wear to cover up the sweat patches under my arms every time I got dressed. Most of the time this either consisted of wearing a t-shirt under my shirt or just a thick jumper.

After reading other people's stories here on dooyoo I was full of enthusiasm about Driclor and, as I had a few days off work at the time, I decided to get some there and then. I walked to the local Asda but they were out of stock so I caught a bus, in the rain, to my nearest Boots. The rain was really heavy but I really didn't care as I thought there was an end in sight for my sweating problem. The irony of getting soaked in the rain while trying to solve my moisture problem still makes me smile now!

I bought a small bottle of Driclor at Boots which was a few pounds more expensive and a smaller bottle than in Asda. I remember thinking that if this stuff really worked, I'd pay £50 for a bottle! I was eager to try it out but I also wanted to abide by the instructions and not put it on until bed time. My wife had gone out for the evening and at around 10pm (and a few glasses of red wine later) I couldn't wait any longer.

I dried my pits and rolled it on... I had read about the stinging but I didn't experience any. There was a bit of tingling for an hour or so but nothing too unbearable. I could feel it working as soon as it had dried on my skin, it was as if I had covered my underrms with talc, really dry.

I went to bed with a big smile on my face and in the morning put on a tight t-shirt that my wife had bought me a year or two ago, that I had never worn because it would show up the sweat marks as soon as I put it on! I cleaned the kitchen thoroughly to work up a sweat and... nothing. Not a drop of moisture on my t-shirt.

Later in the day I changed into a shirt and took myself to see the bank manager - what a test! That's guaranteed to bring anyone out in a sweat. I'd kept my jacket on all the time I was there and when I got home I was completely dry.

I was amazed at how simple this solution was and wished I had discovered it years ago. My school and university years could've been so much more enjoyable!

I used it for the next few nights but after about the third application the burning came! Man, did it hurt! At around 1am one night I couldn't take it any more and had to wash it off. I think the problem was that I had a bit of broken skin under my arm and it was that area that was painful.

The 'no pain, no gain' mentality still prevailed though and I remember saying to myself that I would use it even if I had to endure that pain every night. My days were almost completely sweat free and I couldn't believe it.

My attitude changed immediately. For about two weeks I couldn't stop smiling. I used to think about my problem every minute of every day, constantly checking if my top was wet. Now, I still find myself checking and then smiling as I never thought I could ever wear a shirt without a t-shirt underneath.

Driclor has completely changed my life. Once I knew it had worked I went out and bought a load of new shirts and t-shirts - even a light grey t-shirt just to show off! I'd never have worn that colour before I discovered Driclor.

I now use it around twice a week (having used it since January 2008) and although I wouldn't say my underarms are completely dry there hasn't been a single drop of dampness on any of my clothes and my confidence has gone up infinitely. I think I'm still very conscious and, who wouldn't be after 20 years, but I remember thinking the first morning that I just wanted to take out a full page advert in every newspaper telling people about it. You don't have to suffer, just get it, it will work if you can put up with a little bit of pain.

Incidentally, now the broken skin has healed and I am only using it twice a week there is never any pain. I can't speak for the ladies as I don't shave my armpits (!!) but I'm not expecting the pain to return any time soon.

I want to tell my father about it but it never seems to have bothered him. I work with someone else who suffers with hyperhidrosis too and she isn't afraid of wearing tight tops either. I'd love to tell her about it but it's still very much a taboo subject for me. I never used to talk about it and used to hide it the best I could.
