Advantages: No more wet patches
Disadvantages: can cause irritation
Underarm perspiration is something most of us do not like to talk about. It is an embarrassing problem but it is certainly not uncommon.
About six years ago I started to suffer from really bad underarm perspiration. It came about for no apparant reason and I was really upset about it.
It did not matter which antiperspirant deodorant I bought I still had large wet patches of perspiration on my clothes. I started to wear dark colours so that the wet patches would look less noticeable. It did not make any difference to how I felt. In the summer I even disliked going shopping. This was because I hated having to lift my arm to get something from the top shelf.
After having tried every antiperspirant on the market I decided to go to the doctor. He told me I was suffering from a condition called Hyperhidrosis and that the more stressed I became the worse the condition would be. He gave me a prescription for Stiefel Driclor and told me to follow the instructions in the box.
Stiefel is a family owned Pharmaceutical Company which focuses on skincare. It was first established over 150 years ago and is now the largest, privately owned dermatology company, in the world.
Driclor comes in a box containing a 60ml bottle of a colourless clear solution. It's main ingredient is Aluminium Chloride.
The first time I used driclor I felt a bit nervous. It told me on the leaflet that it could cause skin irritation and I have sensitive skin. Nevertheless I decided to go ahead.
Driclor is a roll on, so is very easy to apply. You must put it on at night and wash it off in the morning.
The leaflet tells you that it works by "Causing the pressure of fluid within the sweat glands to rise to the point where it shuts off sweat production".
What you cannot do with Driclor:
Never apply to broken or irritated skin.
Never allow it to come into contact with any other parts of the body.
Never shave underarms for 12 hours before or after use.
Never forget to wash it off in the morning.
What you can do with Driclor:
Apply to underarm skin at night. I always take care to only apply it to the part of my underarm where I have hair growth. I find this stops irritation.
I just put one layer on. I never do any part of my underarm twice.
To avoid staining any of my night clothes I allow it to dry completely before getting dressed for bed. This usually takes about five or ten minutes.
I wash it off completely when in the shower the next morning.
It says on the bottle that Driclor is odourless but I always sense a slight chemical smell when I apply it. It disappears as the driclor dries.
When I first started using Driclor I used it every night for four nights and then every second night for a further eight nights. I have used it just once a fortnight since then.
After the first night I felt a bit drier the next day. Then, each day I noticed an improvement, until I was completely dry.
I have never suffered from underarm wetness since then. I was very lucky because I did not have any side effects using driclor. The biggest side effect is skin irritation and redness. If this happens to you then you are advised to stop use immediately and seek medical advice.
You can use your usual deodorant while using Driclor.
This little miracle bottle costs around £5.99 and can be purchased in Boots.
Summary: This is definitely worth a try
