Advantages: Does decrease sweating

Disadvantages: Itching, burning sensation

I've always had a problem with excess sweating, right from when I was in primary school and my hands would literally drip with sweat while I was trying to write in my exercise books. It wasn't just limited to my hands either, my feet were - and still are - terribly sweaty and even now I can't even wear open sandals because I start sliding around in them when my seemingly overactive sweat glands get going.

The main problem though - which is embarassing to admit really - is my underarms. I constantly have huge sweat patches, even in winter, and there is nothing worse for me than to sit in the office all day with soaking wet clothes because I've been sweating too much. I try and wear white or black clothes so it doesn't show all that much but even then I have deodorant stains under the arms and my white tops don't last long.

I've tried every deodorant under the sun, sticks, roll-ons, sprays, even sticking two tissues under my arms in desperation and eventually I decided that enough was enough.

I'd read in various women's magazines in the health letters pages that you could get much stronger deodorant from the chemist for Hyperhidrosis and I decided to give it a go.

I settled on Driclor after reading the reviews on here, and I bought mine with minimal embarassment from the chemist for £4.49 on special offer. I'd seen the cautions about not using too much and also read about the potential side effects (itching, burning sensations) so it was with a little trepidation that I opened the box ready to use.

As per recommendations I made sure my armpits were dry and I hadn't shaved them for over 24 hours, just to be on the safe side. One quick stroke right in the middle of my armpit and I left it to dry before going to bed.

There was a bit of itching initially which did quickly give way to a tingling sensation but that didn't last all that long and I went to sleep as normal. The next morning I washed as normal and put on deodorant.

During the day I did feel like I was sweating but my underarms seemed to be drier and I was more comfortable.

The next application however was a different story. I followed the same procedure and went to bed but noticed there was much more itching the second time around. This gave way to a stinging and burning sensation which was quite painful and eventually I had to get up and try and wash it off as I couldn't sleep. In the morning the skin seemed irritated and was quite painful for the whole day.

I decided to stop using it for a couple of days and then try again, which I did around four days later. This time the itching and burning wasn't too bad so I carried on using it - VERY sparingly.

I have to say that it has done the job. Now I feel much more comfortable and don't have huge rings of sweat patches under my arms. This was definitely worth the price paid, although if you are thinking of trying it for the first time follow all the instructions and don't use too much, it's not worth the stinging pain afterwards.

Summary: Quite uncomfortable at first but worth it.
