Advantages: So Soothing
Disadvantages: None
There are certain brands and products that have been around for decades, E45 is one of them. As a child I remember my mother using E45 lotion. She reckons that she has been using it since the 1950’s and as a result I have followed in her footsteps.
SO WHAT IS IT?
E45 lotion is a light, unperfumed moisturiser. Unlike a lot of its rivals, it can be used on the face as well as body and hands. It is non-greasy and can be used even for babies. It is easily absorbed and can be used on very sensitive.
SO WHY DO I LIKE IT?
Every now and again I switch brands, often buying expensive alternatives that have caught my eye. I always revert to E45. I like the lightness of it, it doesn’t clog up my pores and because it is non-greasy, it doesn’t cause staining on my clothes. After a bath or shower, I find it extremely soothing and with immediate effect. Perhaps the main preference for me is the fact that it doesn’t sting my eyes. My eyes are particularly sensitive to even the most hypo allergenic creams, but have never been affected with E45.
I use the lotion morning and night before going to bed and apply to my hands after washing them. I have to admit that my hands look younger than my years. Last year I had to visit a skin consultant because I had a skin tag that I was worried about. Fortunately it turned out nothing untoward, but she did comment on my “excellent skin” As someone who loves the sun and has a couple of sunny holidays a year, this was indeed good news, but then again I have used the lotion as an aftersun for many years.
OTHER FACTS
E45 is often prescribed by doctors for the treatment of eczema and flaky skin.
PACKAGING
The lotion comes in a simple white plastic bottle with the label “Dermatological E45”. No extra, unnecessary packaging and the bottle can be recycled. It can be bought in two sizes, 200ml or 500ml. It is made by Crookes Healthcare of Nottingham.
PRICE
I always buy the larger size. Prices vary. Boots is the most expensive at just under £7, whilst shops like Savers and Beauty Care sell for £4.99. For a while Sainsburys have matched this price and have often had it on offer for £3.29. Both my husband and myself use it twice a day and a 500ml bottle last us exactly one week. A small price to pay for the relief of dry skin.
FINALLY
I have decided not to veer away from my firm and reliable favourite. No more trying other brands for me. My skin is proof of the product; it has stood the test of time and has been around for decades (the product and me!). I’m sure that it will have a place on our shelves for many more decades to come! It is excellent value for money and what's more, it works!
Summary: A fabulous inexpensive moisturising lotion

kotoranka - 28/06/07 I have used the tubs before and found them great for my dry knees, not too keen on the smell though. Nice review! |
