Advantages: nice colour, doesn't stain clothes
Disadvantages: hard to apply on some occasions
Having auburn hair & a fairly pale skin means that the sun & I don't really get on too well. I don't have the time to sunbathe & am well aware of the potential dangers of harmful sun rays & I don't need any more wrinkles thankyou - so I usually opt for fake tan products.
I must have tried dozens over the years with varying degrees of success. Some self-tan products smell dreadful, others made me look like a pot of orange marmalade whilst others streaked. I always follow the directions carefully but rarely seem to get the result I want - ie a natural-looking streakless all-over colour.
It's important to exfoliate before & moisturise afterwards (shopping TV always give good presentations & some products send a DVD as well as giving clear writen instructions).
I ordered some of this Ecotan from QVC last year - it came as a set which included the exfoliator, spray mist & aftersun plus clear guidelines on how to use them all.
I did exactly as told but I have to say it wasn't worth the £30 I spent on all 3 products.
I found the spray nozzle difficult to use as it kept 'freezing' & was stiff to press although I was still trying to pump it out which meant that some parts of my forearm/ legs were sprayed twice but other parts weren't touched by the mist.
I also wasn't overkeen on the smell - it wasn't as strong as some fake tans but enough to let other people know you've 'cheated'.
Once dried (a couple of minutes) I was pleased that the colour hadn't come off on my clothes & I didn't feel sticky.
After about 4 hours the colour started to come through & I must admit I thought the shade was really natural but saw where I'd missed bits even though I'd moisturised really carefully & thought I'd done a terrific job - ha!
I think that fake tan products work differently on different skin types & colour - I have mixed opinions on Ecotan - my main problem was the pump action so it may work better if someone could apply it for me next time?
summary
~
- not cheap - around £12 per bottle.
- nice colour.
- not too strong a smell of fake tan.
- I found the pump action tricky to use.
- not the best nor the worst fake tan product I've used.
Summary: OK but not as good as I'd expected

- 05/04/09 Nice read. I haven't used a fake tan since a bad experience as a teenager - can I just say "orange" and "streaky" ;-) |
