Advantages: Makes you feel better, Stops others being ill, Means you don't have to move for ages
Disadvantages: No such thing
These little five-toed buddies have been with me through thick and thin. And what do I do to thank them? Nothing. I stand on them all day, I walk around until they ache and throb and are in agony. I look after my hands. I moisturise my skin. (Stop laughing who ever that was!) I wash my hair regularly and I keep myself clean and tidy. So why is that I don't give my feet a second thought. Sure I soak them in a tub of water once every six months. Sure they get cleaned when I'm in the bath. My feet are fine. Are they? Well, there's a bit of dry skin around the heel. Any where else? Side of my big toe's a bit hard. My heels actually hard more than it is dry. Okay... Oh, and the tips of my does are a bit crusty. Right, you all know the story of the feet from hell. I had them once. I worked for eight weeks, seven hours a day in steel toe-capped boots. Heavy work, using my boots to support large objects and shunt them around. At the end of the eight weeks I had hard, cracked skin on my heels and around my toes. I had blisters that had burst and turned red-raw. My feet were in their very own private hell. And it was all my fault. For those of you who have read my reviews before, you will know that I recently came out as a man who moisturises. I have nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of. As my girlfriend said – If more men did it more women might enjoy kissing them. Nice of her to say it, but I don't believe for one minute she meant it! Anyway, I shout it from the roof tops too "I LOOK AFTER MY FEET!" I do. And they look much better for it. It is a vanity thing admitted, I have a feet phobia and unkempt feet, to be honest, make me feel quite ill. I didn't notice the state my feet had got into when I was wearing my big boots. I started work at midday and f
inished at midnight. I didn't really see my feet to be honest. But they were disgusting. Thank God I was single at the time. Even if I wasn't, I soon would have been. Not even I wanted to get into bed with them, leaving dangling over the valance… Anyway... Now, twice a week I look after my feet. I give them the pampering they deserve. They work hard my feet and they need looking after. You'd pamper parts of yourself that are constantly on show, so why not those that aren't? The session consists of four parts. A soaking. A pumice. Another Soak. And a foot lotion. Now it doesn't feel like a particularly blokie thing to be doing, I grant you that. It does feel very girlie. But believe me guys, you'll thank me for this advice. As will your partners when you don't scratch them as you sexily run your foot up their bare leg. (Or calf depending how far you can reach with your foot without falling down!) You Will Need: A Bowl (With warm water) A Towel A Pumice Foot Lotion. Large Glass of Wine (optional) Solitude (Optional) Part One The initial soak. This is the first relaxing part of you session. It doesn't need to be for long. Get a bowl of warm water, just enough to cover your feet. I don't add anything smelly to this. It's purely to clean your feet and relax them a little. Now, unlike a bath, don't stay in there until the skin on your toes looks like a prune. Dry your feet thoroughly with a towel. If you need to cut your nails, do it after you've done this soak. Part Two The Pumice. There are loads of different types of pumice and pumice-type products you can use for this. I use the Body Shop File A Foot. It's a spatula like thing with coarse pumice on one side and fine on the other. And it's best used when dry. Starting with the coarse side,
slowly rub away the dead and hard skin from the worst areas. This is usually the heels and the side of the big toe. You may get hard skin on the edges of other toes depending on where your shoes rub. If your skin is quite bad you will probably be horrified at the amount of skin that comes off. That's good, don't worry. I thought my foot was crumbling away the first time I did this. Don't try and get it all of in one go, that's no good for you! If it begins to become sensitive or hurt, finish off with a gentle rub using the fine side of the pumice. If it's a sensitive part of foot, like the tip of a toe, use the finer side of the pumice only. STEP THREE The Second Soak. Okay, this is the soak to enjoy. Having relieved your feet of some that excess skin, fill the bowl again with enough warm water to cover you feet. This is the stage I add something to the water. Usually a drop of peppermint essential oil or lavender. Peppermint is very refreshing on the feet and tingles. Lavender is very relaxing and takes away some of the aching. Soak for as long as you want, or until the water becomes cold. Dry feet thoroughly. STEP FOUR The Lotion. Again, there are so many lotions on the market at the moment especially for dry skin/hard skin etc that it's probably best for you to choose your own. I swap between two. Again they are both body shop. Peppermint foot lotion is my main one. It is cooling and relaxing and leaves the feet feeling fresh and tingly. The second is in a squeezy tube and is for hard skin. It's from the hemp range. Having lent it to my girlfriend last week and not having had it back yet I can't give you the exact name – but the above description will be enough to point you in the right direction. Now, the trickiest part of it all. Don't move from your spot until it's all soaked in. This is where the large glas
s of wine comes in. Before you do the final three stages it's always worth making sure that you have everything you need near you. Remote controls, telephones, food, beer, wine, your book, whatever you might need. Once that lotion's on your feet you won't be able to walk. Obviously you will if you really have to, but why ruin an otherwise relaxing and enjoyable experience. Look after your feet. Treat them and pamper them. You won't regret it. Now my feet as smooth as a baby's bottom. (All together!...) Which is more than can be said for my bottom!!!
