One of my new year's resolutions was to take better care of my skin. I have a very good skin care regime for my face and hands but I am ashamed to say that this does not extend to the skin on the rest of my body. I tend to rely on the moisturising properties of the shower gels or creams that I use without topping it off with a moisturiser. As such I was on the lookout for some body cream I spotted the Garnier Body Tonic lotion in Superdrug at £6.99 for a 400ml bottle. This was one that had been highly recommended by my sister and so I was keen to give it a go.
The lotion comes in a bright yellow plastic bottle with a flip top lid - it certainly something you don't miss when it's sitting on the shelf and instantly looks very summery! The lotion has seaweed extract and claims to be a hydrating and firming lotion with phyto-caffeine and seaweed extract as key ingredients to stimulate and tone the skin. The label promised smoother looking skin from 7 days. This claim is made based on tests on a sample of 52 women (rather a small sample set) of which 69% agreed with this claim.
I tend to apply this cream at night before I go to bed so that it can soak into my skin and work its magic whilst I sleep. The cream itself is white in colour and has a nice consistency in that it's not too thick so that it takes forever to work into the skin, nor does it feel too thin to be effective. As I rub this into my skin it is hard to miss the delicious, fresh and fruity citrus fragrance. The cream contains a unique blend of fruit essences; grapefruit, kiwi and apple, which have skin smoothing properties. It is quite a summery fragrance and would probably be more suited to day time use but I don't have enough time in the mornings to apply this before heading off to work as every extra minute spent in bed is precious!
The cream is light and absorbs into my skin with minimal effort. I have made a conscious attempt to apply this every night for 7 days to test its firming claims. Once absorbed into the skin it leaves it feeling soft and smooth without feeling at all greasy, which is a bonus. The effects of this cream are long lasting and my skin still feels soft and supple in the morning, even after I have showered.
As for its claims to tone and firm the skin, I can't say that I have noticed a major change in the tone of my skin, but that's probably down to my skin not needing much firming or toning anyway. I tend to lead a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and plenty of exercise so my skin is in pretty good condition and I see the use of a body lotion as more of a long term protection of my skin to try and maintain its good condition. Having said this I do have a couple of problem areas - my knees and elbows tend to be dry and using this cream regularly has made a real improvement to these areas. I do also agree with the claims that this leads to smoother skin. After regular use my skin does look smoother and it looks a lot more radiant after a week of applying.
Overall I am quite impressed with this cream. It is easily absorbed, has a non-greasy formula and smells lovely. It leaves my skin feeling smoother and looking radiant. Recommended.
I'm at the age now where I'm beginning to wonder if I should start to spend a little more money on beauty products now to try to look after myself better as I do like buying cheapy bottles of £1 products such a s moisturising cream and the like. As a result, I have started buying the odd named, more expensive item from time to time, just to see!
One such item was this Garnier Bodytonic firming hydrating lotion with seaweed extract.
I bought this 400ml bottle from Tesco during my weekly shop and it cost £6.63 so it was not one of my cheap budget beauty buys.
The bottle I have is a slightly different shape to the one here in the picture, the one I have is kind of like a figure of 8 shape but it is the same bright yellow colour with the same yellow and green label.
The plastic bottle is not see through so you cannot see how much of the lotion is left which is a shame. The bottle has a white plastic flip top lid.
The lotion itself is a thick white lotion and does smell lovely. It is a really fresh and clean scent. It is very lemony but not the kind of artificial lemon scent that a lot of creams and lotions are, it really does smell like a fresh squeezed lemon.
The lotion feels very cool to the skin as i rub it in, or maybe that is just because I am using it in October!
I have been using this lotion for 4 weeks now and although I cannot see how much is left in the bottle exactly, it does feel as though there is still a lot in there.
Sadly, I cannot feel any difference to my skin tone after using this lotion religiously every day for four weeks. It is a nice refreshing lotion to use and it does moisturise but I do not think it is worth the extra money compared to other lotions out there.
For those reasons, I will not buy this lotion again at its RRP although if it was on offer at half price I might buy it again as it does smell very clean and fresh.
Whenever I'm looking for a new body lotion I'm always drawn to things that claim to firm or tone my skin, especially as I've lost a bit of weight recently and it's left my skin looking a little slack in places, so when I spotted this on offer in Tesco I picked it up straight away. On the offer I got it for under £4 (I think it was £3.33 but I'm not 100% sure) but the usual price in Tesco is £6.63 for the 400ml bottle.
The bottle is slightly different to the one pictured above, but it's only really the shape that is different, the colour is the same and the label is similar. It has a flip top lid which makes is easy and convenient to use, but the bottle is opaque which means you can't easily see when it's running out. The lid can be a little flimsy as well so it seems like it could break easily.
The lotion has a very fresh citrus scent which I love, especially in the mornings, as it feels like it's waking me up, very energising. The lotion feels quite thin but at the same time it's quite dense and substantial feeling(I know that probably doesn't make sense but I'm not sure how to explain it!). It is really smooth and feels lovely when applied to the skin. I do find it absorbs very quickly, meaning I have to use a little more than with some lotions as it's hard to cover a large area with it before it starts to sink in.
This lotion is great in the summer as it feels really cooling and refreshing on the skin, and also feels light so it doesn't make you feel all sweaty like some lotions can in the hot weather. From the first use I was immediately impressed with the way this leaves my skin feeling instantly firmer, I really wasn't expecting any difference, especially after using it just once, but it does give a firming effect to the skin straight away. It also leaves the skin feeling very soft and smooth, and it feels really hydrated all day.
After using the lotion regularly for a while I have found that my skin is looking healthier and it definitely feels much smoother and a little firmer. It's not going to work miracles but it has made a definite improvement, so overall I'm very happy with this lotion and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little extra firmness in their skin.
I try and look after my skin as best as I can and this always involves regularly moisturising as I like my skin to look fresh and smooth and feel nice and soft. One moisturiser that I have recently gone back to using is this Garnier body tonic firming moisturiser after spotting it on offer recently in Superdrug.
I purchased a 400ml bottle of the moisturiser from Superdrug on a half price special offer price of just £3.10. I personally though that this was a great bargain for a moisturiser from a company such as Garnier.
The body tonic moisturiser comes in a bright yellow bottle with a white flip top cap. The bottle has a slight curved shape which makes it easy to pick up and grip. To distribute the moisturiser you simply flip the cap open and squeeze the bottle, as the moisturiser is quite thick it does come out easily and does not leave any residue around the cap. On the bottle you can find all the necessary information that you need to know about how the moisturiser works, directions for use and ingredients listings.
The moisturiser is a hydrating and firming one and claims to give you smoother looking skin within 7 days. The moisturiser contains caffeine, seaweed extract and a blend of fruit essences known for their smoothing and firming properties.
The moisturiser itself is white in colour and appears to be a cross between a cream and a gel. As soon as you begin to distribute the moisturiser you can smell the lovely fresh, zesty fragrance. It is light and not too overpowering but does last well on my skin and I can still smell it hours later.
I find that the moisturiser is really easy to apply as it glides on the skin easily and a little does spread quite a long way. It also absorbs into my skin really quickly and after around 5 minutes of applying my skin feels dry and not at all sticky. A pet hate of mine is moisturisers that leave your skin feeling damp and gooey even after leaving to dry for several minutes but this is not the case with this moisturiser. I have been using this moisturiser for a couple of weeks now and have been trying to apply it every day and have certainly noticed a difference in the feel and appearance of my skin. It leaves my skin feeling firmer to the touch as soon as it has absorbed and dried it does look much fresher and smoother.
I also sometimes apply a wash off fake tan and have found that this is the best moisturiser to use to prepare my skin before for a smooth non streaky application. As this moisturiser smooth's and firms my skin it does leave a lovely base for the fake tan to glide onto.
Overall I am glad that I have discovered this moisturiser again and it has become a favourite once more. I think it is a great moisturiser which works just as it claims to and is also great value especially when it is on offer and is certainly worth stocking up on.
