I don't use fake tans I prefer to use these moisturisers that provide a bit of colour. I find that they tend to look more natural.
I usually use a different brand but this was on offer last summer so I decided to buy it. I wanted to add a bit of colour to myself before a wedding.
The idea is that this product should be applied daily and it will gradually build up a tan. I had the wedding on a Saturday so on the Wednesday night I started to use it. I find the evenings the best time to apply so that you can let it fully absorb without any chances of it rubbing off on clothing.
It squeezes out of the bottle easily and you rub it in all over. I use about a 10p size on each leg and make sure it is well rubbed in, especially around the knees as this is where it tends to get streaky if you're not careful.
Every evening I would reapply it and I noticed after day 2 that my skin started looking a little darker. It was quite a natural colour too which went with my skin tone fine. I definitely noticed that my skin was nicely moisturised. The only problem with this is that it does have streaks easily, I had a streak up the back of my leg even though I had been really careful whilst applying.
The tan starts to fade if you don't apply it every day so after the wedding I noticed by the MOnday I was beginning to look a little 'mucky' so kept my legs covered up. By the Tuesday it was pretty much all gone.
It is a good product but can be streaky.
I'm always on the lookout for new beauty products to try, especially ones that help my skin glow as naturally I am fairly pale and dull. I am wary of using fake tan and so normally stick to gradual building lotions.
I purchased this product from my local Savers store for just £2, I'm not sure what the RRP is elsewhere, however judging by other brands I have used I would say between £4-£5. You get 250ml of product for your money. The bottle has a slight curve in the middle making it nice to hold and is a lovely sheeny apricot colour. The lid is a flip top style with a small hole to squeeze the lotion out. The label tells me this is produced by Garnier Body, gradually builds a natural looking, sun kissed tan, has effective 12 hours moisturisation, is dermatologically tested and has an extract of Apricot. The shade I chose was Deep Sun Kissed Look.
Upon opening this lotion, you can definitely smell the extract of Apricot which I found refreshing amongst all the fake tan biscuit smelling lotions. I simply applied a light layer of this once or twice a day normally after showering and exfoliating. I found it quite runny in texture but then it is a lotion so this is expected. Always remember to wash your hands after using unless stained palms are your thing. I was disappointed that the Apricot fragrance quickly changed to that good old fake tan smell within minutes of being applied to my skin. However, this lotion did give me a lovely sun kissed glow within a week of using and also did not streak apart from a small patch on my arm where I must not have rubbed it in properly although because this is a moisturising lotion it was barely visible.
Very easily absorbed into my skin and I could get dressed within a few minutes of applying, rather than having to walk around the house naked for half an hour.
Even though this is apparently "deep" colour it definitely was not and I am pretty pale so if I was to buy again I would most definitely opt for deep as I can't see the light version building up colour very quickly.
Overall, yes I would recommend for a natural glow. However, I am deducting a star for the fragrance if Apricot being misleading.
I love this gradual self tanner and alternate between this and the Dove Summer Glow depending on which on is on offer. It gives a natural looking fake tan that can built up over time and doesn't have the revolting fake tan smell like lots of other tanners.
The packaging of this is functional, but I can't say that I like the outside of the bottle. I personally find it a bit boring and would prefer to see more graphics and less writing on the bottle. I also wish that the bottles were different colours depending on whether it was the light or deep coloured tan as this would make them easier to distinguish.
Although the packaging isn't the nicest, this product excels in what it delivers - a natural looking tan that can be built up according to your preference and actually moisturises your skin. I do find the consistency to be quite runny, which makes it slightly more difficult to apply than the Dove Summer Glow. However, I do like the smell of this, it has a slight apricot scent which masks the traditional fake tan smell.
The 400 ml bottle usually retails for about £7, which seems expensive but it is actually much more product than you get with lots of other fake tanners. Also, this is frequently on offer so I would recommend looking for an offer if you want to try it out. As a bottle usually lasts me anywhere between 4-6 months, this works out very good value for money.
Garnier Summerbody Moisturising lotion - sun kissed Look
I am well past the age when I can spend hours lying around in the sun mainly as I get bored but also of course we are now so much more aware of the dangers of getting sun burned and skin cancer. Although I am now very careful and use lot of sun protection when in the sun, I do like to look as though I have a bit of colour as I still think it looks healthier. Tanned skin looks better than white pasty skin and white legs look awful!
I am a big fan of false tan and especially like the gradual ones that build up and offer moisturizing properties at the same time. This is a really good gradual tanner and I buy the darker one as my skin suits a deeper colour. I use this for a week or so before going on holiday if we are going in winter and I also use it weekly during our summer months here just to keep a nice colour.
This comes in a pretty big yellow/orange coloured plastic bottle which holds 250ml and I can usually find it for about £3.50 but I have found it for less at times depending on the shop and the time of year. If I spot it cheaply I grab it as it doesn't go off in a short time and I use plenty over the year. The bottle is slim and rounded so easy to hold and the flip top lid seals the opening when not in use.
Before applying any false tan I always exfoliate well and dry myself. I then apply some kind of ordinary body lotion to my elbows, hand and knees. After this I apply the false tanning cream carefully, evenly and section by section. I tend to do my legs first then my arms. I don't bother with my torso as I don't expose that at all!!
When you flip the lid of this you can sell the scent of fruity apricots which is a lot more pleasant than most false tanning creams. The cream is reasonably thick and creamy white. It is soft and spreads easily so you can see where it is and can apply it evenly. Because it is a gradual lotion if you do make a bit of an error it isn't really obvious and you can rectify it with a bit of exfoliation and the next application. I find it best to apply thinly and build the colour up rather than thickly which could mean darker patches . It is actually quite hard to make too much of a mess using this as it really is so easy.
I do like the scent and I also like the fact that the cream doesn't take an age to dry. I do wait about five minutes before putting any light coloured clothes on but I don't worry too much if I am putting on dark clothes. I find that the fact this is a moisturizing lotion makes my skin feel well nourished and soft as well as getting a nice colour.
Something you need to realize is that this is not a sun protection and the fact that you have slightly browner skin also does not mean your skin has built up any protection. You skin is as unprotected as you would have been without the cream.
I have been very happy with the colour and look of the tan this gives on my skin. IT doesn't streak if applied thinly and gradually. It gives a very natural looking colour which lasts for about a week before needing to be topped up.
I find this is perfect to give me a bit of colour throughout our summer and always use it before going somewhere hot in our winter months as I don't want to scare anyone with my bleached white legs, they look so much better when tanned.
I have quite sensitive skin and have never had any rashes or itchy skin after using this which I do when I use another one from Johnsons.
Just in case you have never used a false tan make sure you wash your hands well after applying, pay particular attention to between your finger otherwise it looks like you have smoked twenty a day! I usually use a scrub to give them a good wash just in case.
I would definitely recommend this as a great gradual false tan which gives a lovely natural colour and doesn't give me any streaks. It doesn't smell bad; in fact it smells quite pleasant and also makes my skin nicely moisturized.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
I jet off on my holidays in a few weeks, and as I write this review, I look outside and it is bright and sunny. I have never been somebody that tans very easily, and not wanting to go on holiday completely white, a few weeks back decided it was time I went for the artificial tan. I have used many products over the years and always love to give something new a try so when I saw this, Garniers Summer Body on offer in Boots, I thought I would give it a shot. I love a darker looking tan, so it was an added bonus that I saw two different editions of this lotion, one offering a dark tan (my choice), and the other the natural tan.
The next day, I took a shower, afterwards I read the instructions on the back carefully, and although it doesn't specify using one, I decided to grab my tanning mit for the application. All you do is put the lotion into the palm of your hand or your mit, and apply evenly onto your body. By using the mit, I ensured that my hands weren't orange, but if you don't, then I would advise you to thoroughly wash your hands after application.
When I use other fake tans, I often find it takes quite a bit of work to ensure that you apply it evenly and don't get a patchy tan. But with Garnier, I can only compare it to applying moisturiser, it was so easy to do. It didn't take that long to dry either which was an added bonus. I should point out that this tan isn't instant, and does take time, so don't worry if you don't seen results straight away. It was the following day that I starting to see my skin emmiting a nice healthy glow, resulting in a perfect holiday type tan. My daughter likes to use St. Moritz, and I have done so every now and again, but with that, like others, you cannot wear white, nor lie in bed with white bed sheets. It comes off way to easily. A problem you do not get using Garnier Summer Body, which I have to say is a major advantage.
I really cant rave about this product enough. It has been good few weeks since I first started using it, and still cant find fault. Not only does it tan you skin, but also provides you with 12 hours of skin moisturise. I normally find compared to other product, where you apply and then have to moisturise, that you are really getting two products in one. Like I said, I bought it when it was on offer, at £4.49, and this is the perfect time of year to get this at decent prices. When purchasing it, you really are getting a quality product and without a doubt recommend it, and have done so to my friends. I am now looking forward to going on holiday having, although not natural, but a golden tan.
I highly recommend this product. It's a body lotion with a hint of fake tan which will develop into a natural looking non streaky colour. The product comes in a squeezy bottle, is white in colour and has the consistency of body lotion. It's of a medium thickness and is easily spread and absorbed into skin. It effectively moisturises skin and a gentle colour will develop within a few hours. I find I have to apply this for three nights in a row to achieve a deep tan. So long as the product is well massaged into the skin there are no problems with it becoming streaky and I have never experienced the dreaded orange hands after application! Also should mention this is quick drying, Ive put it on five minutes before bed a few times and haven't woken up to tanned sheets so far ! You can buy this in 250ml or 500ml bottles both of which are good value for money compared to similar tan products. In terms of negative aspects there is a slight chemical smell unfortunately this is common for tan type products. Also if you are looking for instant colour this product is not for you!
Now that its technically summer (even though we haven't been having the best weather) I have been looking for products that will give my skin a bit of colour, I decided to pick up Garnier Skin Naturals Summer Body Moisturising Lotion because I had been recommended it by a girlfriend.
You can get this moisturising lotion in both a light and dark shade, it contains a small amount of tan in it to give you a gradual, natural looking tan. I decided to pick up the light tan because I do not really like dark tan.
I find this moisturiser really easy to apply, it spreads over and blends into my skin very easily. It does not take a lot of this moisturiser to get good results, it feels rather velvety to touch and absorbs into my skin very quickly.
It isn't really that hard to apply this tanning moisturiser evenly and to give a nice even bronze on my skin, the cream is that easily spread that I have never really noticed any streaks or patches in my tan.
I really like how my skin feels when I use this moisturiser, I do find that after a week or so of using this once a day that my skin definitely looks and feels much healthier than whenever I am not using it, also the bronze does build up quite quickly and my skin has a nice subtle bronze glow to it when I use this cream regularly.
I like the colour that comes from this tan as it is really natural looking and it does not really look like I am wearing fake tan, even though I have a little bit of colour.
The thing I like the most about this moisturiser is that it absorbs into my skin quite quickly compared to other moisturisers I have used and because of this it does not leave my skin feeling greasy when it has been applied.
This cream has a very faint smell to it, though it is not noticeable and does not linger around after it has been applied. I would describe this creams scent as subtle, yet fresh and clean smelling. I like this because most fake tans stink in my opinion, which really puts me off using them and when I use this one I do not have this problem.
Price and Availability
I bought this tanning moisturiser in Boots for £3.47, this bought me a 400ml bottle, I think that this is a great price because a bottle lasted me over a month and also because the tan looks really natural and is good quality.
Overall I think that this is a fantastic daily moisturising cream to use in the summer, it absorbs quickly into my skin and I can definitely see the results from it and have much healthier looking skin that has a really nice bronze glow to it. Also this moisturiser is a great price and I will be buying it again. Overall I would give this moisturiser 5 out of 5 stars.

~ THE PRODUCT ~
The product is made by Garnier and it's called Summerbody. The product is a moisturising lotion that gradually builds a natural-looking sun-kissed tan. The product provides your skin with 12 hours moisturisation and has extract of apricot which helps to keep your skin feeling moisturised all day long and leaves it feeling soft and supple. The moisturising lotion moisturises your skin from morning until evening whilst gradually building a natural looking tan in harmony with your skin tone. The product contains a hint of tanning ingredient which helps to build a gradual looking tan. The product comes in 2 different looks which includes a light sun-kissed look and a dark sun-kissed look. Each product comes in the same packaging but on the bottom of each bottle it still states whether it's for a light or deep sun-kissed look so you need to check this before buying the product. I have used Garnier products before and have found most of them to be very good quality. I know there are lots of other brands which have brought out very similar products and claim to give you a gradual natural looking tan. I have tried a few of these products from other brands and haven't had much success which is why I decided to try the Garnier summer body. I have also read other reviews about this product and they all sounded quite good. I purchased this product from my local Boots store for £5.10 which was for a 250ml bottle. You can how-ever purchase 400ml bottles of this product for approximately £7.15, these products are currently in the 3 for 2 offer in boots where you can combine summer products and the cheapest one is free.
~ PACKAGING ~
The shape of the bottle is a bit like an hourglass but has very smoothed curves to it. The bottle is a golden yellow colour which looks a little shimmery and the top of the bottle has a white lid which flips open. On the front of the bottle it states that the product is a moisturising lotion with a sun-kissed look. On this particular bottle it states that this is for a Deep Dun-Kissed look for soft, radiant-looking skin all year round. You can tell the product is made by Garnier due to the large logo at the top of the bottle. On the back of the bottle is tells you information about the product such as is the product is suitable for you, how it works and how to apply the product to your skin. It also gives you a list of ingredients and a Garnier skincare advice line. It states that the product is not suitable for use against UV light. The packaging is nice as it's a bright summer colour which means this product is easy to find amongst the other Garnier skincare products as it stands out a lot more. The feel of the bottle is very smooth, but it's also thin which means the bottle is easy to hold in your hand and is perfect for packing into a suitcase when going away.
~ USING THE PRODUCT ~
Apply evenly to your body every day all year round for a natural sun-kissed glow.
Before using self-tan products I always ensure that I use a good body scrub in order to get rid of any dead, dry skin cells that may cause my tan to look patchy or streaky. As this product contained self-tanning ingredients I also prepared my skin for this product too. I always moisturise 2-3 times a day anyway as I occasionally suffer from eczema, how-ever when I'm in the shower I also use a gentle body scrub to ensure my skin is smooth and soft ready to apply any self-tanning product. The good thing about this product is that it's also a moisturiser so it should keep my skin feeling soft and smooth. After getting out of the bath and ensuring my skin was dry I flipped open the lid of the bottle and squeezed it slightly to dispense a small amount onto my fingers, which was about the size of a 2p. The lotion was white and wasn't too thick, it was very shiny/glossy looking. I applied the lotion over my arm, ensuring that I was rubbing the cream in evenly across my skin. A small amount of this cream goes a long way and I didn't want to plaster it on so I was able to use some of this for my other arm as well. I continued to apply the cream all over my body. The lotion was smooth and silky on my skin and it had a fresh smell to it and only smelt a little of fake tan. After applying the cream I washed my hands and then waited for about 2-3 minutes to ensure the cream had soaked in. I then did my night duties such as facial moisturiser and went to bed.
~ RESULTS ~
I got up in the morning and couldn't help but notice the smell of the product still on my skin, how-ever now the product really did smell like fake tan. The smell wasn't really strong, but I could smell it quite easily. I looked at my skin to see how the lotion worked. There was a very light tint of colour to my skin. Since this was the first time I have used the product I wasn't expecting too much from first use as it's a gradual tanner anyway. The light colour looked quite natural, how-ever I did want it a little darker so was intending on re-applying the product again later. When I touched my skin it felt really soft and smooth and it felt and looked moisturised. In fact the whole appearance of my skin looked better. It looked healthier due to the light colour on my skin and because it felt smooth and soft it also made me feel great too.
~ RE-APPLYING THE PRODUCT ~
I have re-applied the product again all over my body and then waited before getting dressed. I again spread the cream evenly over my body ensuring I don't use too much of it. I washed my hands again and waited until the afternoon/evening to see the results. When looking at the results later in the day my skin did look a little darker than it had done first time using the product. Although the colour of my skin was slightly darker, the cream didn't make me look orange and the colour didn't look un-natural which was fantastic. Of course there was that fake tan smell again; how-ever this didn't bother me too much.
~ OVERALL OPINION ~
After trying many different gradual tanners I didn't have high hopes of this product, how-ever I was pleasantly surprised at how good this product was. As well as making my skin smooth, soft and feel moisturised it gave me a lovely natural colour which wasn't too dark and didn't make me look orange. I didn't feel the need to apply the lotion too many times as I didn't want to end up looking un-natural as I just wanted a light colour on my skin. When you get into the shower/bath the colour does of course fade, how-ever this can be topped up again be re-applying the cream. In terms of value I don't think the product was too expensive and I would pay for this product again as it does everything that it claims to. The only down-side to the product is the fake tan smell which may put some people off; how-ever I don't think it's as strong in this product compared to other products and gradual self-tanners that I have used before. The main thing you have to remember is to wash your hand after applying the product otherwise your hands will end up looking a light orange colour. Although this lotion is for a deep sun-kissed look and I am pale, it didn't make me look un-natural or orange. If I had purchased the lighter lotion I don't think I would have got any results from the first use. You can of course keep re-applying the product for a darker sun-kissed look how-ever I only applied this a few times to get the look I wanted. This product gets a thumbs up from me and is a regular product that I will be using and highly recommend.
(review also on ciao)
If I want a lovely even tan quickly and easily then this is the product I have to use. I always have to make sure that I have at least one bottle in the house for when I want to add a natural tan to my body.
I have used a few different moisturisers with a hint of tan before but I havent found any that is as good as Garnier Summer Body. Just one application will give you a gorgous even glistening tan that really lasts. One application lasted a couple of days on my skin before it started to fade. Only thing is that as it does have tan in it you may need to apply with some sort of mitt or gloves only as it can leave orange marks on the palms of your hands, which is never good or attractive!
As well as just giving me an amazing tan it also is a really good moisturiser. It almost gives a silky feel to the skin, leaving it touchably smooth and soft, a feeling which does last. After use the skin does appear radiant, bright and smooth.
I am naturally pale skinned and rather than turn a nice golden brown when out in the sun or abroad, I burn... really bad...
Naturally all my life I have been cautious when using fake tan - its maybe me but instant tan looks tacky and streaky on my body...
I discovered the Garnier Summerbody range a couple of years ago as a moisurising lotion that gradually builds up a natural looking tan. I used to use the light colour but currently use the dark one because I feel even with my white skin the light shade didn't seem to show very well even after using up a full bottle.
About the product
You can buy the product in a few different sizes and shades to match your skin colour. As previously mentioned I would recomend at least the medium shade for everyone as the lighter shade doesn't do much. The bottle I currently have is 250ml and I purchased around 2 months ago from Tesco at around the price of £2 - it was on offer at the time.
About the bottle
The bottle is almost an oval shape and is straight at the bottom so it stands up right - the lid is quite secure and tight and makes a click noise when you open and close it.
The overall bottle is attractive, it catchs your with the colours used but what I don't like is the fact the bottle is not see-through like others - so you can't see how much lotion is left. This is my only issue.
The top of the label it gives the brand make and the product name "SummerBody", which then advises you that the product is a moisturising lotion sun kissed look. Under this is gives a couple of bulletpoints which claim the lotion:
* Gradually builds a natural looking sunkissed tan
* Effective 12 hours moisturisation
Close to the bottom of the bottle it tells you the shade of the lotion - mine is dark - and also gives further information that it gives you a soft, radiant-looking skin all year round. Further information under this confirms that it is dermatologically tested - which gives you peace of mind that its great on your skin.
The back label gives a Q&A summary at why the product is right for you, how its different, how it works and how to use it.
It then gives information on ingredients used for the benefit of those with allergies. I won't attempt to write these out because I cant spell them to save my life but these can be viewed at www.garnier.co.uk if you have any issues with this.
It also states the product has a 6 month shelf life - which in my opinion is more than enough if you actually do use it everyday!
On the whole it gives more than enough information that I would personally want to say and I am very happy with that.
It does not smell like the normal self tan smell - sweet but not overpowering or sickly.
The liquid is white/cream in colour and not thick/runny but somewhere in the middle. Is very easy to mix in to your body.
I usually apply this after exfoliating and jumping out of the bath, start off by doing my legs, then middle body, then arms and back. As previously mentioned it is very easy to rub in but doesn't dry straight away and you usually need to wait a good 15 minutes before you feel un-sticky and can get some clothes on.
You should also wash your hands, between fingers and around finger nails after application or you do notice them turning orange when the colour changes the next day! You should also be wary at touching materials such as clothes or towels during application as they may stain. Although this has not happened to me.
Does it work?
I noticed after day 1 of using the dark shade people were commenting about the colour change and asking if I had been on a sunbed! I loved this as it just shows it looks very natural and not orange. It definetly works after one application in the dark shade but the light shade did not work for me at all.
Compared to other fake tans / tanning moisturisers I have used I have to say Garnier Summerbody is my favourite. It is very inexpensive for how long it lasts - I still have some left in my bottle from 2 months ago and using it every other day. It is not streaky / un-natural looking as long as you mix in well, and you don't get the yucky self tan smell afterwards. Win!
As it starts to get warmer, I get very impatient for my tan to build so I always try to give it a boost. I always used to use Johnson's Holiday Skins but had ran out.
When in my local Superdrug, I spotted Garniers Summer Body at half price so I thought I would give it a try.
It comes in different shades, dark, deep or natural, I chose the dark colour.
Application is really simple, as soon as I get out the shower (ensuring I have exfoliated), I simply rub all over my body. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards (as with must gradual tan products) or you will end up with orange palms.
It absorbed into my skin really easily and was not greasy at all, it was just like a normal moisturiser, the other good point is it doesn't rub off very easily (I have white bedding and have found with previous products, there had tended to be a brownish tint to where I lie).
The following day I could really notice a difference and had a healthy glow. I have been using it for 3 weeks now and I have a natural looking sun tan (no orange tints at all).
Another good point is that it doesn't seam to streak too much there are bits that I have clearly missed when applying (when I have been in a rush in the morning) but I just apply a bit more to that area and it is hardly visible now.
The product has apricot extract in which smells really nice and fresh unlike similar products.
You can also use the product on your face however I haven't as I prefer to use bronzer to ensure even and natural coverage.
The only downside of the product I would say is the moisturising element, although for most of the day, my skin feels and looks lovely, by the time I get home from work, my legs are starting to look a bit dry again yet Garnier boast it moisturises for 12 hours.
The RRP ranges from around £4 to £7 depending on offers, as I said, mine was half price from Superdrug, £3.55 for a 400ml bottle.
I would really recommend this product to anybody wanting to have a healthy glow.
I am naturally quite pale skinned and I have used a few tanning moisturisers in the past which worked okay, but took weeks for the colour to build up. I bought this Garnier Summer Body Lotion about two months ago and have been impressed with it.
The smell is a lovely light apricot scent. I don't find it chemically at all and it doesn't have the typical fake tan smell. The lotion is very light and sinks in quickly. I was able to get dressed within only a couple of minutes of applying this and none of it rubbed off or stained my clothes. It doesn't leave any greasy finish on the skin. It definitely feels more like a moisturiser than a fake tan. I applied it generously to avoid streaking. It is very easy to use.
After two days of using this in the morning and at night I was amazed to see a real difference in my skin colour. I had a very nice, natural looking and even tan which developped much quicker than I expected. When I looked at the bottle I noticed I had actually bought the one for "deeper skin tones". This was not intentional but it turned out well because it just makes a richer colour appear sooner. Because it works so effectively, you achieve results after 2-3 days and can then take a break. Once you have some colour I would recommend alternating it with normal non-tanning lotions. I am not sure how dark it would go if used every day.
It is a good idea to wear gloves when applying this to avoid your hards turning darker than the rest of your body. If you don't use gloves you definitely need to wash hands thoroughly after application to avoid dark, patchy palms. I had a slight problem when washing my hands as it meant the backs of my hands were paler than my arms, and a different tone started at the wrist. I solved this by washing hands after applying the lotion all over, squirting a bit more lotion onto the back of one hand and then rubbing both backs of hands together. This helps you get the same colour on your hands as your arms!
I stopped using it for a while so I could see how it looks when it fades. If you stop using it, the colour is gone within a week. I did find that the colour faded quite unevenly, leaving some parts of my legs darker and some paler. However this patchiness can be avoided by exfoliating evenly.
I bought a large bottle from Tesco and found it very good value. I would recommend.
As someone who is naturally pale, I am always trying fake tans which claim to give you just a hint of a sun kissed look. I don't want a full tan as I know that just wouldn't look right on my, but a bit of colour does make you feel better. I had been using the Dove moisturiser with a hint of self tan and when I came to the end of the bottle I thought I'd give another one a try. I had seen adverts for the Garnier Summer Body and it sounded pretty good so I hunted it down and round it in Morrison's Supermarket at half price at £2.60. Full price was £5.10.
It comes in a good sized bottle, holding 250ml. The bottle is an attractive yellow tone with a white and black writing on front and back. Garnier claims this combines a hint of self tan with camomile and apricot extract to moisturise skin. The product claims to build up a sun kissed with continued use.
The cream is a rich texture and a good consistency, and feels just like moisturiser. There is a nice fresh fruity smell to it and it does give your skin decent moisturisers that last for around 24 hours. After just one use you can see a tan start to develop. If you have applied it 3-4 times I then find that the tan can start to look uneven and that it even if you are exfoliating and moisturising your skin. I tend to get little patches where it has come off, but if you stick to just one or two applications it does look really natural.
The tan is very light and will deepen if you use it every day or so. As Garnier has combined the hint of self tan in a very good moisturisers your skin doesn't dry out which I tend to find happens with your standard fake tan. When you have applied it can feel a little greasy on your skin for a few minutes but does sink in quickly. After about 10 minutes I find I can dress again without fear of it coming off onto my clothes. You still get quite a strong fake tan smell after a few hours and this is much stronger than the Dove or aerosol tans I have used. Also if applied before bed I find my pj's smell of fake tan too.
This is a really decent product but I wish they would work out a way to reduce the fake tan smell then I would have been really impressed.
I'm not one for the whole 'orange fake tan' look, but I do like to have a bit of colour on my skin, and don't really want to use sun beds. So I have tried a few gradual tans and this one is the best for me by far! It is available in light-Medium or medium - dark, i usually opt for medium-dark as i find it gives better colour quickly.
The lotion comes in a large 250ml bottle (there is a smaller version available but I find this one better value for money). The bottle is a yellow/orange colour with a white flip cap lid and the Garnier label at the top of the bottle. It has a white text box with the name of the product, and has a brief description below.
*the promise - Overall thoughts*
'Summerbody daily moisturising lotion gives your skin a beautifully radiant and sun-kissed look all year round, in one simple step. Summerbody moisturises skin from morning to night, gradually building a light, natural looking tan.'
In my opinion this lotion really does what it claims, I found that from the firs use my skin was moisturised. I put it on at night time after I've showered and woke up the next morning with a bit of colour, this increased as I used the moisturiser each day, but not to the extent that I looked tangoed. The cream is white and not too thick so can easily be applied like any normal body lotion and doesn't leave any streaks. I have also found that some gradual tans have the distinct fake tan smell, but this one doesn't, I think it has a nice fresh fruity smell.
I would definitely recommend this to anybody looking for a gradual tan.
I have pale skin and people often comment on this fact which I don't like. My twin brother somehow has lovely skin which tans as soon as the sun touches it, where as I have skin which burns and peels. Where's the justice in that?? He often asks me if I'm been on the 'snow' beds again and affectionately calls me Casper. But rather than succumb to using sun beds and damaging my skin, I like to look out for safer alternatives and one of my recent and loved finds is Garnier Body Summer Body Moisturising Lotion for a Sun-kissed Look.
What does the product do?
The Summer Body Moisturising Lotion Sun-Kissed Look is a hydrating product for the skin which promises to gradually build a natural looking tanned appearance without any
exposure to the sun, which compliments your own skin tone. As well as this, it claims to leave the skin with 12 hours worth of moisturisation to leave your body feeling soft and looking radiant.
How does it work?
The lotion contains a hint of a tanning ingredient which allows a gradual development of colour on your skin. The lotion contains hydrating ingredients including apricot which nourishes and protects your skin.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied in the same way as a normal moisturising lotion. I tend to use it once every few days although it is suitable for daily use. I usually exfoliate before hand because then the colour lasts longer and I only apply it to clean, dry skin. It can be used all over the body. You must ensure that you wash your hands thoroughly after use. You are advised to ensure that your body is touch dry before dressing.
The colour doesn't seem to deepen after a few applications, it just stays at a lovely golden shade which lasts for days so I don't see the need to apply it daily as I think it's a waste. But each to their own.
The product is available in Light or Deep so if you're looking for something in between then you're out of luck. As you've probably already guessed, I chose Light which produces a lovely golden tan on my body.
Packaging and Price
The lotion comes contained within a lovely yellow summery bottle which is very fitting for the product. It has plenty of extra information on the bottle and a white flip top lid in order for you to easily access the lotion.
I bought my bottle from Asda for around £4.99 but it is also available from most other supermarkets and department stores such as Boots. It is also available from many online websites so if you shop around, then you may find yourself a better deal.
Appearance and Aroma
Surprising, the lotion is pure white in colour. I think the tanning agent is activated when the lotion comes into contact with the air so even though it's white, it will stain things if it touches them.
The scent of the product is completely delicious and it is described by Garnier as being a Summer fresh fragrance and I would have to agree. It is truly tropically and sumptuously fruity, making you think of summer immediately. The even better news is that this is the aroma that stays with you and there is not even a hint of a 'tanning' aroma. The scent is strong however and may be too sickly sweet for some, but not for me!
The product goes onto the skin easily and it feels really refreshing on the body. It has quite a thin consistency which you would expect from a lotion and it is absorbed fairly quickly. You don't need to use very much of the product as it spreads out quite a lot.
The tanning effect happens quite quickly and my mother commenting on my legs about twenty minutes after I'd applied it so I'm not sure about the gradual effect! It deepens slightly with continued use but then stops once it's reached a certain amount which is good because it prevents you from going overboard. I think its quite difficult to go wrong with this product and I haven't even managed to make any streaks which is a real novelty for me.
The moisturising aspect of the product is really good and it makes my skin feel really soft and silky. I also think that Garnier is selling itself short with its promises of 12 hours of moisturisation because I think it offers more than that.
All I all, this is a brilliant product for those who want to gain a healthy tan without endangering their skin. It looks completely natural and streak free. It leaves your skin feeling soft and your whole smelling delicious. Thank you Garnier!
