I paid £4.99 for this 200ml spray which I bought around 6 months ago in Wilkinsons, who seem to be a regular stockist of the garnier products at reasonable prices. However I have seen the price vary from some shoppers saying they have bought the product for £2.00 and to other prices going right up to £8.99. I find £4.99 a reasonable price considering this product seemed to have lasted me so long - I use it regularly and still going on the one bottle (please see below for my usage though).
I suppose the experiences of others teaches me that there is a bargain to be had, so a search on ebay may bring more fruitful (sorry for the pun!) results in respect of price! In any case I picked this up as an alternative to the ambre solaire face mist which at 75ml seems to go for around £5.99-£6.99. So for 125ml more product I felt I was getting a bargain for my money.
The packaging is in-fitting with the regular garnier range - with the logo visible and instantly recognisable. The yellow colouring of the bottle is in theme with the 'sun-kissed look' and makes me think of summer. There is no additional packaging which I like. The bottle also gives you plenty of information as to the product you are purchasing. Perhaps a bit too much information for my liking (I definitely didn't read all the information - again see comments below) but at least it covers all basis!
Application is easy. Instructions on the back tell you to shake well, spray evenly and wash hands after use. Even though this is for the whole body, I mistook the product for a face only mist spray and have used it as such (which is potentially why it has lasted so long). Still, even if you use it for the whole of the body I don't really get why the instructions tell you to wash your hands afterwards as surely that is the advantage of using a spray - you don't have to directly use your hands!
Application is via a pump action spray (which is different to the ambre solaire version - which uses more of an aerosol spray). This means that the product is more environmentally friendly but also that the product seems to last much longer as less of the product comes out. I can imagine if you used this for your body though it would take a long time to cover yourself completely in the mist, as the pump spray mean only short bursts come out. At least with the ambre solaire spray you can do a few continual sprays more inkeeping with your typical studio spray tan!
As I have said, I only used this product for my face so cannot comment on results based on intended use. I do find that the spray gives my face a nice glow and I feel it gives a nice level of moisture too. The advantage for me in the way I have used this product is that it tops up my usual fake tan. This is great because as I wash my face twice a day and use harsher chemicals on it than the rest of my body, the tan fades off my face more quickly than the rest of my body. Generally this gives a good coverage (on my face) and a nice natural glow, although not really much in the way of tan - thus my title - too light a mist! Great smell however (no nasty biscuit smell)!
I love this product as it doesn't smell as bad as other fake tans, it really doesn't streak if you rub it in properly and because it only has a hint of self tan, it gives you a nice natural looking sun kissed glow.
I use it when I get out of the shower/bath as my moisturiser. All my friends use it.
I'd even dare to say that this product is idiot proof and you wont streak. The tan lasts as well if you stay moisturised. This product doesn't cost the earth either.
The spray makes coverage easier and quick to apply.
Get this product just in time for the summer and you wont be the whitest person on the beach. having a tan makes us all feel a little more confident and you can feel confidence in this product as it will do exactly what it says on the bottle.
It does take a little while to show so you will need a few applications but once the tan is there it stays for a while and doesnt wash off too quickly.
I'll admit, I'm addicted to this stuff. Being young and blonde, I'm slightly sceptical of fake tan, fearing the Barbie look, but I saw this in a bargain bin of sorts for the hugely decent £1.50 and felt the need to at least attempt a summer glow this year.
I've since bought it from my local Savers or Wilkos, which pretty much knocks it down to the online price of around £2 (minus any p&p fees). Although as a bargain shop, the stock is slightly inconsistent so I vary between the moisturiser and the spray - I'll note the differences.
Firstly, this stuff runs out pretty quickly. I use it every 2 to 3 days and do whole body coverage and find it runs out in about a fortnight (same for smaller of the two moisturisers). I also find that after about a month of continuous usage, it does go a bit patchy and an intense bath ex foliation is required (leaving me horrifically pale by comparison!) and then a restart. However, the tan builds up pretty quickly, after two applications I'm back to the usual.
Having tried Johnsons and Dove, I've found this one to be the least offensive when it comes to the dreaded orange hands. However, I do still advise ex foliating before hand, then moisturising knees/elbows/ankles etc and washing hands thoroughly. For me, I still end up with a slight orange joint attack, so I very lightly wipe my knees and such with a flannel after application. It's an extra bit of effort, but this stuff is intended for those who want to avoid the full fake look I guess.
I do prefer the spray as it generally goes on easier, spreads more evenly and dries quicker, however, it's a nightmare getting the last of it out. Be careful not to turn it upside down to get the bum and tops of thighs as it stops coming out and as you go on, your hands get slippy and you can't spray with one hand (to do arms and such), so keep some tissue handy. I also suggest applying before bed, as I've found it'll rub off on lightly coloured underwear and leave you a bit patchy even if you wait a few hours after applying (applies to moisturiser also).
I've thoroughly milked those bad points so you know how to avoid them if anything. From this I got a very even tan, and I'm able to gage how dark I want it by how much/how often I put on (though as I've got lighter hair, I'm sticking to the light sun kissed look). At it's cheaper price, it's very good for the money and I'm continuously complimented on my tan and asked if I've been on holiday. It makes my skin feel great and actually smells fairly decent (I haven't found any change in smell even with repeated use). I would advise anyone to use this product (and have done!), it's great natural look.
After recently being told by my midwife that I probably needed some iron tablets as I was looking very pale and pasty I replied that, no unfortunately that is just my winter colour, and well, more correctly my summer colour as well. This prompted me to go and reach for the Garnier Summer Body range again.
I have used the Garnier Summer Body Lotion for quite a few years now and have always liked it but this time I decided to use the spray instead to see if I could get better results with the spray. Summer body is basically a fake tan, or as they like to say a daily moisturiser with the "sun inside". The moisturiser has a hint of self tan so when you do apply it you don't end up looking orange and fake. I have had problems with this in the past with other brands of fake tan. The great thing about this summer body lotion is that it is a moisturising lotion first with just a hint of self tan so your skin is meant to look sun kissed, not sun drenched! Garnier say that this allows you to gradually build an even, natural-looking tan with confidence. I definitely agree with this. I tend to apply it every couple of days so I don't look over the top but it keeps me looking like I have a hint of colour. I really find this product works and enjoy the fact that it is so easy to use.
I decided to try the spray as I hoped it would allow the moisturiser to get to places I have trouble reaching, like my back. Garnier say that the unique spray technology makes it quick and easy-to-apply. I definitely agree with this. I found it very easy to spray all over my body and then I was just able to rub it in to make sure I got pretty even coverage. I find the results were just as good as I have achieved with the regular cream. I generally use it at night and let it sink into the skin. The next morning it looks as if you have caught a bit of sun and have a bit of nice colour rather than looking fake. Then you can reapply as much as you want, they recommend everyday use to build up a nice looking, long lasting tan. I find if I don't reapply the colour lasts for about three days which is perfect.
One thing you must remember is to wash your hands after use so your hands do not get coloured.
Apparently, according to their website, the lotion is enriched with carefully selected Apricot extract and has moisturising properties so your skin is left feeling soft and supple I would definitely agree with this, it is more like a moisturising lotion and my skin does feel lovely after I use it.
There are two shades that you can buy, light sun-kissed and deep sun kissed. I use the light sun kissed as it works better with fair skin but if you want a bit of a darker shade then you can use the deep sun kissed variety.
The lotion does have a smell to it. It is quite hard to describe, it is not a chemically smell which is nice. It has more of a light coconuty smell much like a sun tan lotion. The smell does stay on your skin but fades after a while. The lotion doesn't run in the rain or if you get sweaty which is great as you have no embarrassing moments with sun tan lotion streaking down your legs and arms.
I bought a 200ml bottle which cost me just over £3 and the great thing is because it is a spray I think it will actually last a bit longer than the lotion as I find I use it a bit more sparingly and a little goes a long way.
I have this product in the light sun-kissed look, although it is also available in a darker shade but I haven't tried this yet.
I have very pale skin and although this didn't make me wonderfully tanned, which I didn't really want anyway, it did give me a more natural healthy glow that I very much needed for my prom! I started using it about a month before my prom, and sprayed it on, and rubbed it in all over my body each day after showering.
The fact that it's a spray is great, it meant that I didn't get any streaks or patches as it was evenly spread out, and dried instantly so I could get changed straight away without worrying about rubbing it off and causing streaks.
The only problem I had was trying to spray it on areas such as your back or the back tops of your legs when it is much easier to turn the bottle upside down to reach, although with this being a spray pump caused problems and I would have to try to keep it as upright as possible or get someone else to spray it on for me.
For people with pale skin this is very ideal as, unlike other similar products, it will not turn you orange and it is very gradual. There are many other products that say this but this is the 1st that has worked with my skin tone to produce good results. However, I would not recommend this product for people with slightly darker skin, as although it has ended up giving me a very good tan on my chest, I don't think it would make much difference to many other people, especially those wanting to look more tanned. But the actual product itself is fantastic, so I would recommend the darker version of this as I'm sure it would be good although I haven't tried it. Or prehaps using this product at first to build up to using the darker version, so that the colour change is more natural and less sudden.
The new daily moisturiser, enriched with Apricot extract, has moisturising properties so skin is left feeling soft and supple / The unique spray makes it quick and easy to apply, and as well as moisturising the skin, it contains a hint of self-tan so that you can gradually build an even, natural-looking tan / Available in two shades: light sun-kissed and deep sun-kissed so you can tailor your tan to suit your skin tone /
