During my search for a useful hair removing device to remove facial hair I came across this one, the Magic Wand or Bellabe / Epicare as it is also known as. I remember it being mentioned by someone on a forum asking if it was any good or worth purchasing to replace the threading method.


Threading - Involves removing unwanted hair from the roots with the use of a cotton thread by trained practitioners. Popular in the Middle East, South Asia and South-East Asia and now there are some places in the UK using this technique but generally it can still be found in Indian beauty salons as a popular facial hair removing method. It takes about 10 minutes to do as it takes off a row of hairs at the same time. It's a method I can do at home on my leg for practice but on my own face I find it hard to do perfectly.


*** So what is the Magic Wand? ***

I can only describe this Magic Wand as a thin coiled metal spring with two coloured plastic handles. I purchased mine from Ebay for about I think just under £5. It came in a long plastic bag with instructions.

*** How do you use it? ***

Well the trick is to bend the Magic Wand into an upside down U, then place the spring on part of your face you wish to remove hair from. Then hold the handles at each end and twist the spring inwards and outwards. The spring should catch the hair as your twist it and you should feel a light tingling sensation as it removes the hair. It can only be used on the face except eyebrows as you might end up removing your eyelashes too. It should removes hair from the root just like threading.


*** How did I find the whole process? ***

Ok, so practice makes perfect, but to be honest I found this easier to practice on my leg. On my face I found it much harder to do, at times I could feel hair being removed but I definitely know there were still bits of hair I just could not pick up or it was just awkward to operate this device. You definitely need to twist it together at the same time while it is bent, which at times I found it hard to keep doing, my hands would ache. After a few attempts at this I gave up, this just was not for me.


*** Would I recommend it? ***

Well no, unless you are sure you can get to grips with this technique. Sounds easy but hard to do.

Summary: Facial hair fails to disappear with this wand.
