Advantages: Works really well, no cuts so far
Disadvantages: Pricey
What is it?
The new Gillette Venus Embrace is the newest in the range of ladies razors on the market from Gillette (the name kind of gives that away I guess). It is a lovely blue and green colour.
The handle of the razor has a grooved rubber grip to make sure that it doesn't get slippery in the shower, this works very well even for someone prone to dropping full containers of shower gel and shampoo onto my own feet!
It claims to have 5 curve-hugging blades, which individually adjust to leave skin smooth. It also has a 'protective ribbon of moisture', which is basically a bit of gel type stuff that goes slimy when wet and makes the razor slide over your legs effortlessly.
The product comes with a special plastic suction device so that you can place your razor into it and stick it onto the shower wall (it also fits the new blades inside still in their packaging), I have not tried this out as my kids would be able to get to my razor too easily if it fell off, so I keep it on a high shelf instead.
How much is it?
I bought mine as a promotional pack which had the handle and blade, plus a box of 3 new blades (all sealed up for storage in a shower area so that they don't rust) for just £7.79 from Wilkinson which I though was a really good price. I have since seen just the handle and 1 blade retailing at the same price.
As always you need to shop around for the best price, whilst it is still the newest in the range you can expect to find promotional packs, and unfortunately the blades will be expensive to replace, but the price will decrease eventually.
Is it any good?
I have been using this razor now for about 2 months and have not had to replace the blade yet (I shave weekly because I'm too lazy to do it more often, and only go swimming once a week so can get away with it!). The blades pop off in the normal fashion for a Gillette, there is a button on the handle that you press down and it releases the blade.
Overall I have been impressed with this razor, I have not managed to cut myself even once which for me is a miracle as I tend to do such a quick job I am sure to nick either my ankle or knees, but not with this razor!
As it glides over your legs it does a very good job, and even in my haste I have not missed a patch so I would say that it's claims of leaving 'dramatically smooth skin' are true!
Summary: If you need a new razor why not try this one, ladies only!
