Well after reading reviews on this site about this new razor I thought I may as well try it out and see if it's as good as everyone says it is! (Not that I don't trust you or anything, but you know each person is different right!) Well Bank Holiday Monday I had nothing planned - my fiance was busy studying for his last exam, and I was a little bored after lunch. So I decided to pop down to Boots and have a look around.

As I walked around I remembered that I had a coupon in my wallet that gave me 250 extra Advantage points if I purchase a Venus razor and a set of blades. So off I went to find them. Well...I was shocked at the price! That was the first thing that I noticed. The razor itself was £5.99 and a pack of four blades was £5.99. Almost 12 quid to try out this new product. Was it worth it? Well I stood there and looked at the razor in its packaging. It looked very different. I use a Gillete Sensor Excel for Women and have done for the past few years, so looks-wise they are like chalk and cheese.

The Venus razor has a wide, flattish white (razor) end. The handle is light blue in colour and the plastic has a frosty look about it. The underside of the handle, where you hold while using it, has a rubber grip along half the length of the handle. Very nice design - there's no chance of it slipping out of your hands while your in the shower!

Now let me discuss the blade. In fact there are three blades, which help give the extra smooth shave! On either side of the blades are rubber protection strips to help prevent any cuts. Also there is a blue strip near the blades that helps to identify when the blades need changing. I suppose it's the same kind of thing that electric toothbrushes have now - a blue indicator fades to show you that it needs changing. Sounds like a very good idea to me!

Well for £5.99, what else do you get apart from the razor?

You get a lovely
plastic case - it's very sturdy and can be fitted to your bathroom wall by a little plastic thing inside (with adhesive strips). Instructions on how to do this are included with the razor. The Venus razor fits nicely onto the top of this case. What is inside? Well there's four compartments to fit 4 blades. Each blade, incidentally, is packaged seperately in little plastic, waterproof tubs making it ideal to keep in the bathroom. From previous experience, having left a load of new blades in the bathroom the moisture made them go slightly rusty.

Results

Well I tried it out last night and was pleasantly surprised. It was weird at first due to the wide, flat front but within seconds I had it at the right angle! It really did give a very smooth shave and the shape of the razor itself is great for different angles. I have never cut myself with a razor but can imagine that it must be very difficult to with the Venus razor. The design itself seems to have sorted out that problem. Just make sure you keep an eye open for the blue indicator strip on the blade's head and change it when it disappears - a blunt razor can cause nasty nicks!

In summary, I found the Venus razor to be great. My Gillete Sensor Excelle will be going in a drawer. I've finally found something better!
