Advantages: Very smooth shave
Disadvantages: Costly replacement blades
I have long had a pet peave about price comparisons between male shaving products and female shaving products. Why do female disposible razors cost more when all that is different is that they are painted pink instead of blue? Due to this pet peave, I tend to resist the urge to try most of the new products that they throw at us. I saw the adverts for Venus and turned my nose up thinking that this was just another recoloured product being sold to us at a higher price then the men pay but with very little differences. I was wrong. I decided to give it ago when a friend of mine who is just as cynical as me reported back that it was a good buy. So, I went to the store and recluctanly handed over enough to cover the fairly high price. There was a promotion running on the product so I also got a sample of Gillette's Wild Berry Shaving Gel. I lathered up my legs and plugged in the blade to the base of the razor. The first thing you notice is that the razor looks different than other razors you have seen. The head of the razor is flat and the 'neck is very flexible. It is these designs that makes it special. The flat blade really gets a very close shave. I didn't detect any stubble at all after the shave. The flexiblity means that it can bend with the skin. If you are a bigger woman, like I am, this is even more useful because it allows the razor to follow our bumps and lumps. I also found the the flat blade made shaving under my arms a lot easier than it has ever been. Again, I am a big woman and so the ability for the blade to work in bumpy areas is a real bonus for me. There are a couple things that I have complaints about but none of them are with the design of the razor. Instead it is with the way the product is sold. In particular I was dissapointed to find only one replacement blade in the package. The razor wasn't cheap - it was over five pounds - and so I would have liked to have mor
e than two blades. Now saying that the blades do last a long time and they have an indicator strip to tell you when you need a new one. However, that doesn't stop me from feeling a bit gullible every time I hand over money for a back of equally expensive replacement blades. I recently bought my husband a Mach3 razor and the replacement blades are sold the same way. So, atleast this time it isn't a rippoff aimed just at women. Regardless of that complaint I have to say this is the best razor I have ever used. Its design even makes bikini line shaving a lot easiser. I will shell out the money because nothing else will leave my skin as smooth as Venus does.

- 31/07/01 Good op. I think you should get more blades in the promotional box too, but they do last longer than most other ones I've used so I guess it's still decent value.
I love the gel anyway, so I'm glad I bought the box.
Again, nice op.
