Advantages: Gives a close shave with no cuts or nicks
Disadvantages: Price
Luckily for me, some gentlemen do prefer brunettes, but there is a penalty of having very dark hair. It is obvious and unsightly under my arms or on my legs. I don’t believe that there is a perfect solution to this problem as I have read that even electrolysis is not 100% successful in some cases, although the cost of it is enough to warrant taking out a bank loan. Apart from electrolysis, I must have tried every hair removal method going… waxing (too painful), creams (too messy) and worst of all a nightmare buzzy thing I bought some years ago that pulled the hairs on my legs out by the roots. Last but not least is shaving. Times without number I had to stick little bits of tissue to the nicks I have given myself whilst assaulting my legs with a razor, then clear up the blood spatters in my bathroom. When I started to read good things about Venus razors last year, I decided that this product were worth giving a try. Gillette for Women Venus Razor, to give it its full title, costs around £5.49. It comes in an almost impenetrable tough plastic casing, which I had to carve into with a knife. Inside I found the azure blue razor resting on a plastic shaving compact in which spare blades can be stored. The razor itself is long and narrow with a rubberised handle and handling it took a while to get used to, but I have now grown to like the feel of it. Fitting the blade is very easy, it just needs to be clipped on and you are ready to go. Pressing the button just behind the head of the razor allows the blade to be removed and changed. I have to admit that behind closed doors I am a complete slut and in secret one of my more sluttish habits is to shave my pits and legs while I am in the bath. No messing around with body lotion and stuff like that, I just can’t be bothered. Anyway I ran my bath and once I had been soaking for a while reached for my new razor and drew it once down my left leg then felt the result. I coul
d hardly believe it, as with one stroke the hairs had vanished. Recklessly I finished that leg with a few more strokes, before attacking the other leg and finally my pits. The blades are placed at an angle and spaced far enough apart that you don’t get so much of that awful clog that happens with other razors, so the bath was now full of my body hair. Not even I could lie in that, so I got out and inspected the results of my endeavours. The result was beyond my wildest dreams, no stubble or cuts, just no hair in places I didn’t want it to be. The first secret of this product’s success is in its three blades. The odds are one of them is going to get that rogue hair. The second is the cushioned protection in which they are encased which gives protection from nicks and cuts. The razor blade’s oval shape makes it far more comfortable in use than oblong razor heads as the corners do not scratch the skin. This also allows easy access to those hard to get to areas of the body! The blue indicator strip’s purpose is to show that the blade is performing at its best, once this fades it is time to fit a replacement. These come in 4’s and are priced at around £5.99. As you can see these prices aren’t cheap but I am glad that I paid out for this razor. I do find that the blades get blunt quite quickly, but I am happy to pay out for replacement blades as I think the results are well worth the money. I am sure that it is no accident that Gillette named this razor after the Roman goddess of beauty as part of their marketing strategy, I for one have been converted. All rogue BIC razors kicking around my bathroom were consigned to the bin long ago.
