A Coconut body butter to prolong your tan and hydrate your skin

Hawaiian Tropic is a brand that has been trading since 1969 and one that produces products that protect our skin from the sun while caring for our skin using natural ingredients. Their range of products are extensive and include sun lotions, sun oils and after suns, amongst others. The product which I have purchased is the Hawaiian Tropic Aftersun Coconut Body Butter.

      What does the product do?
The product promises to give an intense and deep moisturisation to skin that has been exposed to the sun for an extended period of time, enabling you to hold onto your tan for as long as possible. Hawaiian Tropic states that you don't have to wait for the sun to come out to use this product as it doubles up as an everyday body butter. It nourishes the skin with vitamins and minerals to leave your skin feeling soft, conditioned and glowing with health. Not only this, but it also covers your skin with splashes of a truly tropical Coconut aroma.

      How does it worK?
One of the main ingredients is Shea butter which has been widely used to moisturise skins in a natural way for centuries. The butter moisturises the skin deeply and allows it to hold onto this moisture, preventing the skin from becoming dry again and stopping your tan from fading. The substance leaves your skin feeling deliciously soft and also nourishes it with vitamins and minerals. As the butter contains vitamin E, the substance also helps to prevent premature aging of the skin and makes it look toned and youthful for longer. As the butter originates from nuts, this product will not be suitable for those with nut allergies.

Coconut Oil is swirled into the mixture and this is an incredibly hydrating and moisturising substance which leaves the skin feeling softer and smoother to the touch. The oil also helps to strengthen the skin right down to the deepest level and leaves it in a better condition. The oil heals and repairs dry or chapped skin on the body and as it is an antioxidant, the oil helps to fight against free radicals in the skin meaning that you will look younger for longer.

Avocado is included in order to help heal damage caused by the sun quickly using its intensive moisturising qualities. It nourishes the skin with vitamins and minerals and leaves the skin in a better condition and looking rejuvenated and feeling softer. Mango Extract is present in order to nourish, replenish and strengthen the skin and as it is an antioxidant, it will keep the skin looking younger and undo the damage done by the sun. A concoction of additional vitamins ensures that the skin is left in tip top condition.

How do you use the product?
The truly tropical body butter is to be applied in the same way as a normal moisturiser. You need to apply it onto your clean and dry skin and massage the product into the body using an upward stroke motion. The butter can be applied all over the body but isn't appropriate for use on the face as the ingredients are too rich. Once the product has been completely absorbed, you're safe to get dressed.

      Packaging and Price
This product comes contained within a beautiful and striking hot pink wide mouthed circular tub. It comes with a screw top and the tub has no real decoration other than some silver writing but it still looks good on display because of the vibrant colour. It will cost you around £6 to buy 200ml of the product.

The product is available from most department stores, some supermarkets and plenty of online websites so if you shop around you may find it for a little bit cheaper or on a special offer. If you find that you like the idea of this product but coconut isn't your favourite scent then you could try the Hawaiian Tropic Aftersun Lime Coolada Body Butter which comes in a green tub and has a citrus aroma.

      Extra Thoughts
The first thing that you notice about this butter when you remove the lid, is the intensely delicious aroma of Coconut and it is strong and present immediately. I really love all things Coconut and so this is a real treat for me but if you don't like the smell of Coconut, there's no point in your buying this product.

The aroma smells completely natural and is not artificial at all which makes the product seem much more expensive that it is. Fortunately, the aroma is every bit as yummy on your skin as it is in the tub and the aroma lasts for a really long time after application.

The colour of the product is pure white but when it is rubbed into the skin, it disappears completely and doesn't lighten my skin tone at all. It has a really rich and luxurious consistency which really makes you feel like you are giving your skin a treat. Despite being thick, it is easily absorbed and doesn't leave any greasiness behind other than a lovely sheen and you can dress quickly after application.

The butter leaves my skin feeling really soft and smooth and completely hydrated. Any sign of dry or flaky skin is long gone and it keeps your skin moisturised for ages so repeated application is unnecessary which means the butter will last you for ages. It does a good job at prolonging my tan because it prevents my skin from drying out and it leaves my skin looking conditioned, healthy and beautiful. It isn't too heavy on the skin and it feels completely comfortable all day long.

All in all, I think this is a really lovely product that hydrates my skin for ages and leaves it looking much healthier. My skin feels really soft and smooth after use and the smell is completely delicious. The only reason you should avoid this cream is if Coconut is not your thing, otherwise it's a fantastic moisturiser at a reasonable price.

A really lovely product, I strongly reccomend you try this!

I won this product but I know that I probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise. However, I am very glad I did because I love it!

The smell is very strong- so a no-no for people who don't like overpowering smells- but I love it. It smells so rich and exotic, and a lot like Malibu! haha :) I've had comments in the middle of the day about the smell, so it's long lasting too.

The butter itself is quite runny in comparison to other body butters i've tried. It is a dream to apply and smooths in with your skin very nicely. It does leave your legs feeling quite greasy, but to me this feels moisturised and this also lasts all day, which I like. I use quite a lot of this at a time as I love it so much, but I think a little would go a long way.

The packaging is sturdy and funky. It looks very attractive in your bathroom, but is a little bulky for taking away with you etc. This does, however mean it is good value for money as you get so much in a tub. I think it costs around £8.

I haven't had experience with using this with a tan, but I am most certainly going to try it next time I go away (if I haven't used it all up by then!) I've heard many good things about it so i'm very eagar to try.

I would definately buy this again, and I would reccomend it to others. It's a real summery pick-me-up treat for your skin.

        BUY BUY BUY!

BUY IT TODAY.... that is all! - Just kidding! But seriously, read this review and then go buy! It's GREAT STUFF!

I bought this product beefore going on my holiday to Bulgaria earlier this year and unfortunatley it remained there as stupidly I had it in my hand luggage and the security at the airport chucked it in the bin :( however I shall be buying it for my next holiday because it is brilliant stuff!
I did get a little burnt whilst away and it is soooo soothing on your sking (especially if it's been in the fridge like I did during the day) It prevents peeling and helps maintain your tan! It's not really thick like alot of body butters it just go's on nice and smoothly and leaves your skin silky soft as it is an after sun product I think if it was too thick it wouldn't really help sooth the burnt skin but instead it allows it to cool down. Also The smell was great, a very fresh and sweet coconut smell.

The packagings nice and pretty too - one of the main things that attracted me to it - I'm a sucker for buying pretty products especially going on holiday so it all looks nice in my suitcase - I'm strange like that!!!! Some people would probably prefer a squeezy bottle but I like to lather it on so a big tubs perfect!
Pricing is extremley fair I would say - I actually bought it with a coupon (again yes I am a cheapscate!) Around £8.00 from boots but you can find cheaper online!

My tip on usage would be to use it once dry out of the shower - don't apply straight onto hot burnt skin!
Any questions let me know but I think I have pretty much covered everything...and after writing this review...I've decided not to wait until my next holiday!!! I want one now!!!! :)

May also be on other review sites under Frannybooboo :)

        -

Just by looking at the list of reviews I've written previous to this one, you'll be able to tell that I'm very much a girl who loves her beauty products! The main one being body butter and moisturisers - I like to keep my skin looking as good as it possibly can, so I've constantly got a pot of body butter on the go! My current favourite (and will be for quite some time considering the amount of it I have now...) is the Hawaiian Tropic Coconut Body Butter. It appears to be a little different from the one pictured above, and as the title here on Dooyoo doesn't specify the coconut scent, I can't say whether or not the packaging has just been revamped a bit or if it is an entirely different product, but Dooyoo have insisted I post the review here, so here we go!

I first noticed this body butter when I was wandering aimlessly around Asda at 3am (as you do!), I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, so while my boyfriend headed off to buy some car cleaning products, I headed to the beauty products! The shocking pink pot instantly caught my eye and after noticing it was a Hawaiian Tropics product and coconut scented, I grabbed one and hopped off to the till.

The body butter comes in a small plastic pot with a screw top lid. I prefer this type of packaging over a squeeze or pump bottle as you can get every last trace of product out of it very easily. The little round pot is maybe 4 inches in height and 4 inches in diameter and made of sturdy pink plastic. There is a nice little picture of a coconut and it simply states the brand and product name on top. I have to admit, the packaging looks incredible in my bedroom, it really stands out against everything else as my room is predominantly white.

Upon opening the pot, the smell of fresh coconuts instantly hits you. This is a very fresh, creamy scent - not like the cheap, plastic-y coconut scents you can get elsewhere. The body butter looks more like vanilla cupcake frosting than a lotion. It is very thick and creamy looking, with a pale yellow/off white colour to it - the first thing I want to do is plunge my hand right in, scoop some out and slather it all over my body. So guess what? That is exactly what I did!

I scooped a little into my hand and worked from my feet upwards in circular motions. I found that a little really does go a long way but even though I may have used a little too much product the first time, it wasn't long before it had all absorbed into my skin and I was left with a silky smooth body.
I figured out that you only need a tiny amount because once you apply to your skin, your body heat slightly melts the butter before it sinks into your skin, making the product stretch further.

The greatest thing about this product is that it doesn't leave any residue on your skin. It fully absorbs and leaves you with skin so soft and touchable that I can't even describe it - I've been on the lookout for a residue free body butter for years, because even though I was a die hard Body Shop Body Butter fan, I still always got a little bit of greasiness.

Not only is this residue free and very effective at moisturising, but for once the scent actually stays on my skin. Not just for 5 minutes. Not just for an hour. I can still smell it on my skin at the end of the day!

I managed to pick the 200ml pot up for £4 in Asda (the offer is still on!), but the original price is £8. I stocked up on a few pots - maybe a few too many actually, I got carried away - while the offer was on but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to pay full price for this body butter.

Highly recommended! 5 stars! I can't rate this product highly enough!

        Thanks for reading :).

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

It is a good moisturiser but it doesn't stand out from cheaper moisturisers currently on the market

For a few years now I have been buying the Original Hawaiian Tropic sun protection lotions. Not for the sun protection but I buy them to wear as a body lotion just for the smell. I absolutely love the smell of Hawaiian Tropic and haven't ever been able to find a perfume that smells like it. So since the smell is so strong I treat it as a perfumed body lotion.

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw this in my local Boots. Its £10 for the 200ml tub which is pretty expensive but then again so are the sun protection lotions I am buying.

The actual container is a large plastic tub in a 'shocking pink' colour.
I thought it might just be handy to note that the current picture on dooyoo is now out of date and the new pack doesn't have the cheap looking doll in a yellow circle anymore. It is now just embossed in silver with the Hawaiian Tropic brand logo, keeping it in line with the rest of the range.

The lotion does smell like the same coconut scent the rest of the range has, it isn't quite as strong or sweet but it still smells great.
As an actual moisturiser I don't think it's anything that different or exciting. The consistency and texture is no different to the cheaper body lotions you can buy. I actually prefer Palmers Coco Butter for the consistency and moisturising effects which is about 1/3 of the price.

The moisturiser does rub in very well and doesn't leave a greasy residue on the skin. This is definitely one of it's better points.

The scent of the product isn't that long lasting. I applied some 3 hours ago when I got out of the shower and I can only just about smell it on my arm, although the scent does seem to linger on my clothes a lot better.

I think Hawaiian Tropic Body Butter is quite average. It's a fairly decent moisturiser and has a nice smell but it doesn't stand out from the others enough to warrant the £10 price tag. I'm not sure if I would buy this again unless it was about half the price.

A Cheap Body Butter That Is Better Than From The Body Shop

I got this body butter in Ethel Austin where they were selling the tubs for £1.49 and I've heard of Hawaiian Tropic before but have never used their stuff because I haven't come across it before. It comes in a hot pink tub and when you open it you'll see the butter is a pale yellow colour and looks lovely and thick but not as solid as the body butters in the Body Shop, which is a good thing because I think they're much too thick and heavy.

As soon as I opened the tub I had an amazing whiff of a very strong coconut smell, it smells sweet and rich with the creamiest and nicest smell of coconut that I've ever had. The smell matches how rich the body butter looks and for that price I wasn't expecting anything this good.

The body butter is wicked to apply, it goes on smooth and absorbs quick into my skin. It feels creamy to rub in but isn't greasy and doesn't leave my skin feeling heavy even though it's a very rich body butter. When you rub it in the butter heats up a bit and that makes it a bit like a sauna mask and it makes your skin feel lovely, the heat feeling doesn't last long but it's a proper nice feeling that's especially good in the winter when you need warming up!

As soon as I put this body butter on I can feel it starting to moisturise my skin and if I put it on at night by the next morning my skin feels proper soft and smooth and the smell lingers as well so that I wake up feeling all coconutty in the morning! I went back to Ethel Austin and brought another 2 pots because I love it already and I've only been using it for just over a week! It says you can use it as an after sun but I don't reckon I'd fancy putting something that warms up so much on top of my sunburn!

I love the consistency of this body butter because it's thick but not greasy and that's the thing that puts me off a lot of body butters because I hate the feel of grease on my skin so I usually use lighter body lotions. In the winter though my skin gets a lot dryer so I reckon this butter will come in handy over the cold months because it's very moisturising and gets my skin into wicked condition.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good value buy ,rich moisturising but burning afteruse is worrying

I was surprised to find this body butter as I've seen no advertising about it, but then Hawaiian Tropic is not that popular in the UK compare to other hot climate countries. Found this in the Sales shelves in superdrug and they offered it for £2.99! It is too good not to get any. Especially for me, I've always been a Hawaiian Tropic fan. This lotion is in the famous coconut flavour and it is to die for! It is quite a thick lotion meaning it is not runny which is great and you feel really moisturise immediately. The only negative side is that after applying some the other day, the area that has been applied felt very hot, like a burning sensation. I wasn't sure if that is normal or not. I found that really strange and wonder what damage it might have to the skin. I'm tried to apply it another time and same thing happened. Apart from this negative part, it does give you the yummiest long lasting coconut scent!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Recommended but exfoliate at your peril!

I was given a tub of Hawaiian Tropic Body Butter in the summer, not because I was tanned, I am in fact ghostly pale but because a friend had managed to acquire a BOGOF offer on these and felt kind. I'd never tried it before as it's main purpose is to help maintain your tan.

The tub is a shocking pink, 200ml in size, with white writing and a drawing of a woman in a bikini and grass skirt on the top and side. The claim is "luxurious rich formula, intensively hydrating, 12 hours moisturisation, vitamins A, C and E to nourish the skin and it can be used all year round". It also states it contains shea butter and avocado oil.

The cream is thick and slightly off white, it smells of the avacado and shea I think, a very slightly fruity but buttery smell if that makes sense! It's quite a pleasant smell and immediately makes you think this is going to be very moisturising.

I tried it one night on my legs after shaving, it applied easily, absorbed well and did in fact leave my legs feeling very soft and smooth. Feeling very pleased with the result I decided to try it the next night after exfoliating.

The next night it didn't go quite as well, for some reason after I'd exfoliated this cream didn't really agree with me. A couple of minutes after I'd applied it my skin felt warm, then a couple of minutes later it was hot and of course a few minutes after that burning! I had to wash the cream off so I'd advise caution if you're planning to exfoliate first! It may just be me on that one, I do have fairly sensitive skin so if you do too just be aware of this.

Does it live up to its claims? It is indeed a luxurious, rich formulation. It is very hydrating and the effects do last 12 hours. Obviously I can't tell if the vitamins are in there so we'll skip that one! It's a good rich body cream for those of us with dry skin.

I've since done some checking and price varies, some websites are charging £8.99 a tub and some ebay sellers are charging £3.99 a tub. Shop around if you do buy some.

Recommended for anyone with a tan and anyone with dry skin. Just beware exfoliating!
